L. Beverly Runge, 99, of Country Meadows Retirement Community, formerly of St. Marys, passed away Friday, October 21, 2022, at Country Meadows in York, PA.
She was born October 31, 1922, in Ironwood, MI, daughter of the late Garfield and Lillian Smitham Moon. Beverly was a graduate of Luther L. Wright High School, Class of 1940, where she was salutatorian. She continued her studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she graduated in 1944. She shared her passion for learning with her students as Beverly taught for many years in Milwaukee schools as well as several years at St. Marys Parochial School.
On June 15, 1946, in Milwaukee, Beverly married the late Glenn B. Runge, who preceded her in death on December 13, 1910. She was also preceded in death by her parents and sister, Ruth Allen (Kenneth) of Livonia, MI leaving Beverly the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by four daughters: Barbara Taylor (Stephen) of Holland, PA, Elizabeth Stephenson (Philip) of York, PA, Carol Runge of Lancaster, PA, and Jane McQuitty (Brian) of St. Louis, MO; five grandchildren: Mark Taylor (Flora), Emily DeiTos (Pete), Matthew Stephenson (Megan), Megan McQuitty, and Erin McQuitty; 4 great-grandchildren: Moira and Marshall Stephenson, Louis Taylor, and Cody DeiTos; and her nieces and nephews.
Beverly was a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church where she was an Elder, Clerk of Sessions, substitute organist and a member of the church choir. She was involved in many church and community activities including the Presbyterian Women’s Group, and the AKM Hospital Auxiliary. Beverly enjoyed cooking and baking, knitting, crewel and embroidery, and hand-quilting bedspreads. She enjoyed playing bridge, participating in water aerobics, and traveled extensively with friends and family.
A Funeral Service will be celebrated at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home, in St. Marys, on Saturday, October 29, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Scott Wiest, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Marys Protestant Cemetery.
Visitation will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 10:00 AM until the time of service.
