Kennth James Vogt, Sr., 70, of St. Marys, PA
Kennth James Vogt, Sr., 70, of St. Marys, PA passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 with his wife and brother, Dale, by his side at Jefferson Manor following complications with Alzheimer’s.
Ken was born on October 21, 1953 in St. Marys, the fourth son of late Robert “Fish” and Joyce Wehler Vogt.
On June 18, 1977 Ken married his sweetheart and wife of more than 46 years, Geraldine Donachy Vogt.
He was a 1973 graduate of Elk County Christian High School. Ken was an avid Steeler fan and enjoyed spending time in nature. He was a multi-talented athlete of baseball, softball, karate, bowling, and golf. He loved the outdoors, animals, sports, and his family. He enjoyed umpiring and working with kids.
A natural teacher, he was a gifted coach who enjoyed sharing his knowledge of sports with the youth in his community. In fact, most of his life centered around coaching his children in baseball and swimming. A proud grandfather to Maddex and Kai, his grandsons brought him joy and comfort. He loved to travel with his family, try new restaurants, and have fun. He was a jokester who would also lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
In addition to his wife, Ken is survived by two children; Erica Vogt of St. Marys, and Kenneth Vogt, Jr. and his wife Kristen of Kersey, and by his two cherished grandsons; Maddex Jacob and Kai Matthew Vogt. He is also survived by several siblings; Michael (Elaine) Vogt of St. Marys, Dale (Jennifer) Vogt of St. Marys, Mary Jo (Joseph) Bolitiski of Daguscahonda, Christine (Blaine) Stauffer of Lake Luzerne, NY, Judy Vogt of St. Marys, John (Dawn) Vogt of St. Marys, Emily Saline of St. Marys, and Joseph “Peach” Vogt of Erie, along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by three siblings; Father Eric T. Vogt, OSB, Robert “Rote” Vogt, and Cheryl Herzing.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Kenneth J. Vogt, Sr., will be celebrated on Monday, December 11, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Queen of the World Church, 134 Queens Road, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Jeffery Noble, Pastor, as celebrant.
Burial will follow in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Sunday, December 10, 2023 from 2:00-5:00 PM.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Jefferson Manor, or to the Elk County Catholic School System.
