Kenneth J. Schaming, 96, of 3 Butternut Drive, Bradford, passed away, at home Sunday, April 13, 2025, surrounded by his children.
Born on September 21, 1928, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Bernard B. and Susan M. (Bauer) Schaming Sr. He was a 1946 graduate of Bradford Area High School.
On June 17, 1950, in St. Bernard Church, he married Patricia (Carlson) Schaming, who preceded him in death on November 20, 2022.
Ken started working with his father after high school. He later started Ken Schaming Painting and Decorating, a business he operated for over 50 years. Ken also was the President at Tarport Enterprises Inc. which formerly owned Bisett Building Center and Bisett Concrete.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing with family, friends, and his special brother-in-law, Jack Cummiskey, at “Camp Carlson.” Ken and Jack co-founded the “Camp Carlson Ski Team” for the Tony Dolan Ski for Cancer benefit, a venture that spanned over 30 years. He and his wife enjoyed antiquing, and he was an avid gardener. He delighted in sharing his harvest with friends, family, and the Friendship Table. In his leisure time, he crafted numerous unique log cabin birdhouses. He was a lifelong member of Saint Francis of Assisi Church.
Surviving are children Marcia Tilghman, Mark Schaming, Janice Himes, Nancy Abriatis, Lisa Haines (Kent), and Paul Schaming (Tom Mackey); nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and siblings Bernard Schaming and Suzanne Healy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Patricia of 72 years, five sisters Catherine Foster, Imelda Luethy, Joan Holler, Mary Lou Sowers, and Bernardine McCusker; one brother George; and two sons-in-law Bruce Vecellio and Denny Abriatis.
Family will receive friends on Monday April 21, 2025, from 10 am to Noon in St. Bernard Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Noon with Rev. Edward Walk, Associate Pastor as Celebrant.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Friendship Table, or the Tony Dolan Ski for Cancer, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
