Kenneth E. Carlson, 96, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of Charles Street, St. Marys, PA joined his wife in Heaven on Sunday, October 29, 2023, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on January 25, 1927 in Kane, a son of the late Wallace and Inga “Olive” Alexis Carlson.
On April 29, 1950, in Bradford, PA, he married Dorothy Michaels, who preceded him in death on September 6, 2023. Together they were blessed with more than 73 years of love, laughter, and happiness.
Ken was a lifelong resident of the area and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. An active and faithful member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church, Ken served as Trustee, Deacon, and Elder, and also spent many years teaching Sunday School. A kind, faithful, and dedicated husband and father, Ken worked as a meat cutter at Riverside and Bilo. He managed and oversaw the St. Marys Protestant Cemetery for many years, faithfully tending to the grass and grave layouts. In his younger years, Ken was known for his ability to dance on roller skates, something his young bride found mesmerizing. In his free time, Ken enjoyed fishing and stocking fish, as well hunting and playing cards. In recent years, there was nothing Ken loved more than going for a ride and seeing the elk.
He is survived by 6 children; Cynthia (John) Calcagno of Bradford, Michelle “Shelly” (Joe) Frontino of Bradford, Suzanne “Suzy” Carlson of St. Marys, Shawn (Laura) Carlson of St. Marys, Jeffrey (Jill) Carlson of St. Marys, Kerry (Dave) Vollmer of St. Marys; and by a son-in-law, Ray Gornati of St. Marys.
