Kathleen M. “Kay” Scida, 98, of 12, Powers Ave, Johnsonburg, passed away Saturday morning, October 5, 2024, at DuBois Nursing Home, DuBois following a lengthy illness.
She was born on November 4, 1925, in Redruth, Cornwall, England, a daughter to the late Thomas and Florence Gunn.
On August 7, 1946, in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, she married Joseph J. “Joe” “Patsy” Scida. He preceded her in death on August 4, 2024.
Kay grew up in England and graduated High School in Redruth. She moved to the United States and Johnsonburg in 1946. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church, the Rosary Altar Society and the Elk County Women’s Club. Kay adored her family and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was also very proud of her home and loved flower gardening.
Primarily a homemaker, Kay owned and operated the “Kay’s Tots to Teens” store for over five years, retiring from that venture in 1976.
Kay is survived by her children; Jim Scida (Christina), Rick Scida (Lynn) and Tom Scida (Luck) all of Johnsonburg and Ann Scida of Kansas City, MO, her grandchildren; Amy Wesley (Dale), Joe Scida (Meia), Elise Grossa (Tom), Philip Scida (Lexi), Becky Swentosky (Dominic), Elaine Scida, Colleen Oknefski, Travis Scida (Dani) and Taylor Jacob (Joe) and 13 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by three sisters in England, Edith Gunn, Barbara Richards (Pat) and Audra Elliott.
In addition to her parents and husband, Kay is predeceased by a brother Henry Gunn and a sister Anne Knowels.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Kathleen M. “Kay” Scida will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church on Thursday October 10, 2024, at 10 AM with Fr. David Wilson, Pastor as officiant. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home and Cremation Services Chapel, 401 Chestnut Street, Johnsonburg, PA, on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM.
