John Joseph Collins Jr. “Jay”, 61, of Wellsboro, PA.
John “Jay” Collins Jr. passed away at his home on Monday, May 6, 2024, in Wellsboro, PA, at the age of 61.
Jay was born on March 13, 1963 in Wellsboro, PA. He grew up in Galeton and was a graduate of Galeton Area High School in 1981. From there, he went on to study hospitality management. His career in hospitality took him to many different places, including Pittsburgh, PA, Washington, DC, and Hershey, PA. In 2004, he returned home to Galeton to care for his mother, Margaret until her passing in 2021.
Everyone who knew Jay would describe him as the “life of the party.” With his quick wit and great sense of humor, he always knew what to say to make everyone laugh. Jay was an excellent cook, and loved to host holiday dinners and picnics for his family and friends. He took great pride in the appearance of his home, and everyone admired his keen eye for decorating – as well as his personal style. In his free time, Jay enjoyed listening to music, going on weekend trips to Corning, and spending time with his coworkers who became dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents John Joseph Collins Sr. and Margaret Collins, both of Galeton, PA. He is survived by his sister Mary Collins of Galeton, PA, and his beloved nieces and nephew, Sabrina (Chance) Krizan of Mountain Home, ID, Rachel Newton of Pittsburgh, PA, and Connor Newton of Casper, WY.
A private family service will be held at a later time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Goodyear Hose Company, 87 Sherman Street, Galeton, PA 16922. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hess Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Collins Chapel, Galeton.
