ROBERT “JOHN” DORRETT-SCIO

John Dorrett 77, of 4300 Sciota St. Scio NY passed away February 22, 2025 after a battle with cancer.  Born December 16, 1947, John honorably served in the US Army during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970.  He was very proud that he served his county when they needed him.  After his military service, he dedicated many years as a laborer lastly working at Grinnell Inc. in Columbia PA, until his retirement. 

John was a man of simple pleasures, one of which was riding his Harley motorcycle, a hobby that brought him immense joy and freedom. 

He is survived by his daughter, Jessica Dorrett who was his caretaker.  He is also survived by a brother Mark (Gayle) Dorrett, his sister Laura Dorrett Manners, and a brother Gary (Lea) Dorrett.  His grandchildren were the world to him, Morgan Zimmerman, McKenna (Matt) Scibek, Caydence Zimmerman, Avery Zimmerman and Riley Zimmerman and nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased in death by his parents, Robert and Marguerite Dorrett, and his son Christopher Armold. 

In line with his wishes, no services will be held.  John’s life was marked by his quiet dedication to his family and passions, and he will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. 

Because for John’s love for animals, any donations made be made to the Allegany County SPCA in Belmont NY in his name. 

John’s care and arrangements are under direction of the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., Bolivar, New York.
