John A. “Moose” Lafferty, 81, of Duke Center, PA passed away on Friday, January 6, 2023 at the Bradford Manor.
He was born on February 14, 1941 in Olean, NY, a son of the late Alfred and Violet Bennett Lafferty.
He was a 1961 graduate of the Smethport High School.
On December 31, 1972 in Bradford; he married Evelyn G. Tobin who preceded him in death on February 8, 2007. On April 12, 2008 in the Hilltop Baptist Church, Gifford, he married Delores M. Goodwin who survives.
John was a member of the Hilltop Baptist Church. He loved singing gospel music and he used to volunteer at various nursing homes once a week by singing to the residents. He ran the “Blessing Room” in Cyclone with his late wife, Evelyn from 1995 thru 2000. Lastly; he loved to give his grandchildren “Mooseyback” rides when they spent time together.
He was employed at the former Owens-Illinois / Georgia Pacific from 1970 until he retired in 1995 due to health issues.
In addition to his wife of fourteen years, Delores Lafferty of Duke Center, he is also survived by five daughters, Patricia (John) Shinaberger of Bradford, Lois Allen of West Branch, MI, Barbara (Dale) Songer of Bradford, Peggy Hoak of Bradford and Mickey (Dave) Monroe of Middletown, VA; one son, Dana (Samantha) Lafferty of Marshburg; two stepsons, Steve (Alice) Bennett of Duke Center and Andy (Penny) Bennett of Franklin; one brother, Bruce Lafferty of McSherrystown; one sister, Cheryl Bhe of Leon, NY; twenty grandchildren with one on the way; twenty-nine great grandchildren; seven great great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his first wife; he was also preceded in death by one daughter, Rita Mae Ruttan and one granddaughter, Sophia Grace Metzler.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at the Hilltop Baptist Church, Gifford, with a celebration of his life to immediately follow at 3:00 PM in the church with the Rev. Max Simms officiating.
Private burial will be in McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked for memorial contributions in his memory to be made to the Hilltop Baptist Church, P.O. Box 76, Gifford, PA 16732.
