Joanne Dorothy Mosier, 88, Of Elk Haven Nursing Home

On Monday, February 24th, 2025, the heavens welcomed Joanne Dorothy Mosier, who passed away peacefully at Elk Haven Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on November 10, 1936, in St. Marys, PA, Joanne was the daughter of the late Howard and Dorothy (Heiberger) McAllister. On January 22, 1955, she married the love of her life, William “Bill” H. Mosier, at Sacred Heart Church in St. Marys. Together, they shared 47 wonderful years, raising their seven children in their home on Main Street in Kersey, PA. Bill preceded her in death in 2002.
Joanne attended Kaulmont, Sacred Heart, and Central Catholic High School before earning her Certificate of Director of Religious Education from Mercyhurst College. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital for 15 years and later in the cafeteria at Elk Christian Catholic High School.
Faith played a central role in Joanne’s life. She dedicated many years to teaching religious education at St. Boniface Elementary School and served as a lector and chairperson at St. Boniface Church. She and Bill also sang together in the church choir, sharing their love of music with the community.
Beyond her devotion to faith and family, Joanne was a gifted homemaker and cook. Her homemade ravioli, fresh bread, and famous peanut butter eggs were cherished traditions enjoyed by all who knew her. She also had a creative spirit and a passion for crafting. She found joy in sewing and quilting, creating beautiful baby quilts for each grandchild and the newborns of family and friends.
Joanne had a lifelong passion for writing. Although raising a large family often took precedence, she still found ways to capture life through her words. As a special gift to her children, she compiled a treasured cookbook filled with the family’s favorite recipes. However, her most cherished work was Memories, a collection of stories capturing the humor, love, and hardships that shaped her family’s journey. One of her stories from Memories appeared in an issue of Reader’s Digest.
Joanne is survived by her seven children; Jeanette (Harry) Malburg of Indiana, PA, Kirk (Barbara) Mosier of Morris, PA, Sam (Kathy) Mosier of Curwensville, PA, Sally (Kevin) Zani of Kersey, PA, Nancy (Thomas) Metz of Ringgold, GA, Timothy Mosier of Dagus Mines, PA and Craig (Michele) Mosier of South Riding, VA
She was a beloved grandmother to Ryan Malburg, Nicklas Malburg, Cassandra Mosier, Abigail (Mosier) Steffy, Jacob Metz, David Metz, Sarah Mosier, and William Mosier, and a great-grandmother to Taylor Zook, Cecelia Zook, Reed Metz, Ashton Metz, and Loralei Malburg.
She is also survived by her siblings; Helene Burdick, James (Patsy) McAllister, and Marsha (Bill) Stuck; sister-in-law Alice McAllister; brother-in-law Robert Kneidel; and many nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her family of caregivers at Elk Haven Skilled Nursing Home, who fondly referred to her as “JoJo.” Joanne’s family extends their deepest gratitude to the Elk Haven staff for the love and care they provided her over the years.
She is now reunited in heaven with her husband Bill, her parents, her beloved granddaughter Emily (Malburg) Zook, her sister Gloria Kneidel, her brother Richard McAllister, her brother-in-law Jon Burdick, and her stepmother Frances (Vollmer) McAllister.
Joanne’s love, kindness, and unwavering faith have left a lasting legacy. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved her.
