James L. Hammond, 90, of Kromas Ave., Port Allegany, PA
James L. Hammond, 90, of Kromas Ave., Port Allegany, PA passed away Saturday (Dec. 30, 2023) in UPMC Cole Coudersport.
Born August 21, 1933, in Troupsburg, NY, he was a son of Ephraim F. and Margariet Burton Hammond.
James worked for Jack Frost Construction Co, State College, PA, for several years, working in both the office and on construction sites, before his retirement.
He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, football (especially Penn State), working puzzles, and reading about history. Most of all, he enjoyed the Hammond family reunions.
Surviving is a brother, Donald E. Hammond of Williamsport, PA; three sisters, Shirley J. Redmond of Burtville, Sarah M. Hammond and Joyce A. Moore both of Port Allegany; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Fred O. Hammond, Robert B. Hammond, John M. Hammond, Franklin D. Hammond; three brother-in-laws: Samuel Moore, Fred Redmond, Samuel Har; and two sister-in-laws: Linda (Benzinger) Hammond, and Pam (Garner) Hammond.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 3, 2024) in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. James Cannistraci, pastor of the United Methodist Church, Port Allegany, officiating. Burial will be in Brookfield Cemetery, Westfield, PA.
