James Andrew Johnson of Ridgway Pennsylvania
James Andrew Johnson of Ridgway Pennsylvania passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, November 8th, 2024.
James was born on October 3, 1940 to late Andrew and Bernice Pollick. He was later adopted by George and Isabel Johnson. James attended Ridgway high school and later went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps. James served as a Marine from 1959-1963. Later that year, he went on and married Sandra Gier of Ridgway on November 16, 1963. James had three children Kevin, Kimberly, and Crieg.
He was so very proud of his service in the United States Marine Corps and never hesitated to let anyone know. He treasured telling stories with fellow Marines, having friendly badger with brethren from the other branches of the service, or with anyone interested in just talking.
Jim devoted many years to his father and grandfather’s painting trade, J. Johnson Painting. He specialized in painting churches in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York.
Jim loved being social; he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Visits from Winston were always something he looked forward to. He loved scouting and hunting for deer. In his spare time, you could find him watching a Pittsburgh Steelers or a Pittsburgh Penguins game. He loved winning a card game even if that meant cheating to win. He had the most contagious laugh and smile, and never passed up the opportunity to eat dessert. Jim is preceded by his parents, two sisters Joan Nagle and Masha Snow, and son Crieg Johnson.
Jim is survived by his two sisters, Mary Anne Kerner and Geri Duncan. His wife of almost 61 years Sandra, children- Kevin Johnson and Kimberly O’Rourke, three grandchildren- Shelby (Tony) Aquilina, Kaitlyn (Mark) Ahearn, and Joseph Johnson, and 3 great grandchildren- Elden, Meredith, and Beau.
A Graveside Service for James A. Johnson will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Leo Catholic Cemetery, 349 Montmorenci Road, Ridgway, PA 15853, with Fr. Justin officiating.
Military Honors will be accorded by Ridgway, Johnsonburg, and Wilcox Burial Detail.
