James A. Wonderling, 96, of Kersey, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Penn Highlnads Dubois after a brief illness.
He was born on July 6, 1928, in St. Marys, the son of the late Jay and Winnifred Jury Wonderling.
On July 22, 1949, he married the late Betty J. Wingate, who preceded him in death in 1980.
James found joy in the simple things in life, whether it was cheering on his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers or enjoying a thrilling baseball game. He cherished every moment spent with family and friends, always making time for gatherings filled with laughter and love. Some of his favorite pastimes included playing bingo, camping under the stars, hunting in the great outdoors, and eagerly watching dirt track racing. He truly embraced life to the fullest, even finding joy in the humble act of mowing grass.
James is survived by 2 sons, James Wonderling (Tina Minor) of St. Marys and Daniel Wonderling (Dorrie Wachob) of Johnsonburg, a stepson, Bob (Judy) Wingate of Johnsonburg, 5 grandchildren: Eric (Julie) Wonderling, Todd Wonderling, Jim (Mary Ellen) Burlingame, Timothy (Jessica) Wonderling, and Tonya Wonderling, 6 great granddaughters, 4 great grandchildsons, and 2 great great granddaughters. He is also survived by 2 bonus grandchildsons, Nathan and Mason Krise, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Hetrick, and 2 brothers, Carlton and Bud Wonderling.
A Memorial service will be held privately by the family.
Burial will follow at Frenchville Cemetery.
