Jacob R. “Jake” Snyder, 86, a longtime resident of Austin, PA passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, in UPMC Cole, Coudersport, after a long illness.
Born on Saturday, September 19, 1936 in Scottdale, he was a son of Earl and Mae Snyder. On December 27, 1957 in Normalville, he married Shelvadean “Deanie” Richter, who passed away on March 25, 2013.
Jake attended school in Scottdale. He was employed as an equipment operator for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in Austin.
Jake was a member of the Allegheny Mountain Engine and Implement Association in Port Allegany. He enjoyed rebuilding “hit and miss” engines and restoring old tractors. He loved junking.
Surviving are a son, Donald Roy (Deb) Snyder, Sr. of Coudersport; a daughter, Bonnie M. Yeaney of Summerville; four grandchildren, Donald Roy (Crystal) Snyder, Jr., Heath Snyder, Brianne N. (Derrick) Daughtery, and Brandi R. Yeaney; three great-grandchildren, Douglass Snyder, Jessie Jo Snyder, and Kenzley Daughtery; and many nieces and nephews. four brothers, Earl Snyder, Charles Snyder, Ralph “Sneezy” Snyder, and Ken Snyder; three sisters, Ruth Snyder Smalley, Katherine Synder Taylor, and Elaine Snyder; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Jake was predeceased by four brothers, Earl Snyder, Charles Snyder, Ralph “Sneezy” Snyder, and Ken Snyder; four sisters, Ruth Snyder Smalley, Katherine Snyder Taylor, Elaine Snyder, and Dorothy Snyder Walton; a son-in-law, Brad Yeaney.
In keeping with Jake’s wishes there will be no public visitation or funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Austin Ambulance Company, PO Box 328, Austin, PA 16720 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Jake entrusted his care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
