Hope is an Egg: A Show of Art, Resistance, & Peace
Coudersport, PA — Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine three years ago, Olga Snyder—a U.S. citizen originally from Ukraine—has carried a powerful legend close to her heart. According to Ukrainian folklore, as long as pysanky (Ukrainian Easter eggs) are being created, evil cannot prevail in the world.
Over the past three years, Olga has embraced this tradition with unwavering determination and hope. She has not only continued to create pysanky herself but has also shared the practice through workshops and community gatherings. As part of her personal artistic response to the war, she has expanded her work to include stylized eggs, symbolic birds of peace, and even a giant nest—each creation a testament to resilience, cultural pride, and the enduring hope for peace in Ukraine.
This month, Olga is sharing the fruits of this work in a special window display at two locations in downtown Coudersport: her former gallery and café at 4 East 2nd Street, and Yarn at Olga’s at 10 East 2nd Street. The exhibit will be accompanied by an online show on Facebook and Instagram, featuring Olga’s birds of peace and pysanky alongside works by Ukrainian artists. Many of the pieces are available in exchange for a suggested donation to Olga’s Saving Ukraine Fund.
In addition to the exhibition, Olga is offering two community-centered workshop opportunities throughout April:
- Ukrainian Egg Decorating Workshops
Held every Friday and Saturday in April from 12 PM to 4 PM at Yarn at Olga’s (10 East 2nd Street).
Cost: $75 per person (40% off the usual rate)
100% of proceeds benefit Olga’s Saving Ukraine Fund. - Free Giant Paper Mâché Egg Workshop
