Hilda E. Schroll-Smith, 77, of Lady Lake, FL and Port Allegany, passed away Monday (April 7, 2025) at Chatham Glen Healthcare & Rehabilitation Ctr., The Villages, FL. 

She was born June 7, 1947 in Port Allegany, the daughter of William and Carole (Manning)Varney. On September 18, 1965, in Roulette, she married Kenneth S. Schroll who died on January 25, 2003.She later married Roy Smith, Sr. on October 13, 2012, in Port Allegany, he died on March 14, 2021.

 Hilda was a 1965 graduate of Port Allegany High School. She attended St. Francis School of Nursing in Olean, NY graduating in 1976. In 1983, she received an associate degree in nursing from Jamestown Community College. She later received her bachelors in nursing in 1995 from Alfred University.

She was a member of the  Port Allegany United Methodist Church were she taught Sundy School and held various offices. She was an active member of the Port Allegany Senior Center. Hilda was a member of the Red Hats in both Florida and Port Allegany. Hilda was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary 6391 of Port Allegany.

Hilda was a Registered Nurse employed by Charles Cole Memorial Hospital for 38 years and was RN of the Year in 1987.

She is survived by her son, Kirk M. Schroll of Port Allegany. Two grandchildren; William K. Schroll and Mary Elizabeth Schroll both of Bradford. One great granddaughter; Madeline Elizabeth Schroll. One sister Kelly (Jeff) Bish of Olean, NY.

Two stepsons: Roy (Gail) Smith, Jr. and Michael A. Smith, both of Port Allegany; three stepdaughters; Darla (Tom) Bailey of Port Allegany, Ramona (Clark) Follett, of Olean, NY, Karen (Ted) Baker of Carthage, NY;  several stepgrandchildren, several step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and a sister Cynthia Gibb.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 12 noon in the Veterans Memorial Home  Route 155, Port Allegany with the Rev James Cannistraci, officiating. A celebration of Hlida’s life and reception will follow the service.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany
