Helen J. Herzing, 93, a resident of Silver Creek Terrace and formerly of S. St. Marys Street, St. Marys, PA passed away peacefully on Friday, December 16, 2022 with her children by her side.
She was born on July 8, 1929 in St. Marys, PA, a daughter of the late Rocco and Elvira DeSantis Petrilli.
On May 30, 1953, in Sacred Heart Church, she married the late Thomas G. Herzing, who preceded her in death on November 2, 2017. Together they were blessed with more than 64 years of marriage.
Helen was a lifelong resident of the area and member of Sacred Heart Church. In her earlier years, she worked at Stackpole Carbon and then enjoyed volunteering at the Sacred Heart school cafeteria when her children and grandchildren attended. She always enjoyed sitting down for a game of Skat with her family or working a word search puzzle. She loved being a homemaker, cooking and baking her famous rigatoni and meatballs for dinners with her beloved family. She made the best drop fudge, which was a family staple at the holidays. Each spring, she spent her time gardening and tending to her flowers. Helen was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family more than anything. She was the last surviving member of the Petrilli family.
She is survived by 2 children; Diane Scutella and her husband Joe and Thomas Herzing and his wife Colette, both of St. Marys; by her 2 beloved grandchildren; Travis (Mandy) Herzing and Ashley (Tim Buresh) Herzing, as well as by 3 step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by six siblings; John Petrilli, Herman Petrilli, Joseph Petrilli, Lena Galati, Angeline Calla, Caroline Hoffman and by one sister in infancy; Connie.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Helen J. Herzing will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 337 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Thomas Curry, OSB, as celebrant.
Burial will follow in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 from 9:30-10:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Silver Creek Activity Fund or to the St. Marys Boys and Girls Club.
