Hamilton-Gibson Productions is Holding Open Auditions for the Play, BIRTHDAY CANDLES
Hamilton-Gibson Productions is holding open auditions for the play, BIRTHDAY CANDLES written by Noah Haidle and directed by Thomas Putnam.
The play follows the life of a woman named Ernestine Ashworth, highlighting significant birthdays throughout her life, from her 17th to her 101st. As these birthdays arise she interacts with family members and reflects on her dreams, relationships, and the meaning of her existence. “It’s a very moving play,” says Putnam, “it reveals the main character’s thoughts and feelings in a sensitive and clever way, exposing family dynamics as they evolve over time, and taking the audience on a personal, insightful journey.”
Putnam adds, “Even though the play might jump a decade forward from scene to scene, it is seamlessly and artfully presented by the playwright.” Another unique feature of this play is that the birthday cake recipe used year to year is measured, mixed and baked live on stage, with the main character, Ernestine, working on this cake throughout the play.
“The lead role requires the stamina to be ontage throughout the entire play, and also the versatility to play this character as she ages.” notes Putnam. There are roles for three women and three men, and some of the actors will play multiple roles. Materials to read from the play will be provided, and auditions will be held on
