Gregory Robert DeRock, 74, of Statesville, NC passed away Thursday February 16, 2023 at Pennybyrn Nursing Facility in High Point, NC.
He was born February 15, 1949 in Olean, NY, to the late Lawrence Arthur DeRock and Virginia Paffie DeRock.
He is survived by his son, Andrew Gregory DeRock (fiancé, Sarah Woodlock), brother, Dennis DeRock (Beth)of Loganville GA, sister, Suzanne DeRock Jones (Lloyd) of Salisbury NC, sister, Tina DeRock Haas (Stuart) of Huntersville, NC; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He spent his first 15 years of his life in Bolivar, New York before his family moved to NC where he graduated from Lexington Senior High School in Lexington. He graduated from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC where he was an avid fan and supporter. Gregory was a registered nurse for 37 years and retired as a surgical nurse in 2017. After his retirement he continued his medical career as a hospice nurse. Greg’s life revolved around his family and he enjoyed his Italian heritage gatherings of his extended family. His humor was shared with all who knew him, and he touched many lives. He was a proud Veteran of the US Army. His strong Catholic faith carried him through his 4 year battle with ALS. He had a deep devotion to Our Lady of Fatima and prayed the rosary everyday.
The family will receive friends from 9-10 AM Friday, February 24 at Sacred Heart Church prior to the Mass of Christian Burial held at 10 AM in the Church, officiated by Rev John Eckert. Burial will be in Belmont Abbey Cemetery in Belmont NC at 2 PM.
