Georgiann Holly, 83, of Emporium, PA passed away peacefully with her family by her side at her residence on Sunday morning (August 6, 2023) following a lengthy illness.
She was born October 9, 1939 in Greensboro, PA a daughter of the late George and Ruth Barnhart Dusenberry. On June 30, 1990 in First United Methodist Church she married Walter Holly, who survives. She spent many years together with her first husband, Earl Barhart.
Georgiann graduated from Mapletown High School in the class of 1957. She worked several years at Sylvania until the Tube Plant closed in 1981. Being in partnership with Kautz & Barnhart Plumbing & Heating, you could always find Georgie working the front office and warehouse when help was needed. She was also a former administrator of the Grove House, kindly helping all with her knowledge and a smile. She retired from full-time employment by 1990 and turned her efforts to volunteer work.
She was a very active member in the Emporium Rotary Club where she served as past president, secretary/treasurer, and was a two time recipient of the Paul Harris award, and served many years on the board of directors of the Emporium Rotary Club. She also served as a board member of the Penn Highlands Community Nurses. She was a member and past president of the VFW Auxiliary. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served on Session. Georgiann was a prior member of the First United Methodist Church’s choir and bell choir. She also served many years on Newton Cemetery Association board of directors.
In addition to her husband Walter she is survived by a daughter, Cassie Cool-Burlingame (Greg), Emporium and a son, Michael Barnhart, Albany, GA; 5 Grandchildren: Eric (Jeannie) Cool, Fairbanks, AK; Jennifer (Jake) Starmer, LaGrande, OR; Joshua (Chelsea) Cool, St. Marys, PA; Nichole (Jared) Young, and Michael Thomas Barnhart of Sylvester, GA; 8 great grandchildren: Jessica, Elena, (EJ) Eric James, Ethan, Lawson, Grayer, Lawler and Braylon; two brothers, Richard Dusenberry (Judy), Salinas, CA and Paul Dusenberry (Nancy), Clayton, NC.
In addition to her parents and late husband Earl she was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Emelia Dusenberry.
Visitation will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 205 East Fourth Street, Emporium, PA from 11:00 AM – 12:45 PM on Thursday, August 10, 2023 with Funeral Services to follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Brad Clinton officiating.
Burial will be in the Newton Cemetery, Emporium, PA
