George H. Lamb, 84, of Greenbrier Drive, Kersey, PA.
George H. Lamb, 84, of Greenbrier Drive, Kersey, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, June 30, 2023 at his residence, with his wife by his side.
He was born on December 10, 1938, in Coudersport to the late Alfred “Tex” and Gladys Hoak Lamb.
On April 20, 1979, George married Lesa Rhodes who survives. they shared more than 44 years together.
George moved to St. Marys with his parents in 1946 graduated from St. Marys Area High School, class of 1957. After graduating he went on to serve in the U.S. Army, and was discharged early due to his father sustaining an injury in 1958, George became part of the Signal Corp, Army Reserve in St. Marys, Battery B.
George worked in the grocery industry for Riverside & BiLo from 1958-1995, 37 years, then was hired at Burke’s ACE Home Center as department manager finally working parttime in power tool repair. At the age of 80 George retired.
In the years following High School, George participated in a number of activities: competitive archery, bowling league, boating and water skiing on the East Branch Dam and was a Deputy Game Protector for the PA Game Commission in the 1960’s. George was also an avid deer hunter.
George enjoyed music at an early age and began accordion lessons. He played for dances and on WKBI Radio with his father’s band, Tex Lamb and the Midnight Ramblers. His mother played bass and father guitar. During the 1980’s George and Lesa were members of the “Bells of St. Marys” square dance club.
George loved cars and owned many over the years, but mostly enjoyed his 2 Corvettes ; a 1978 Silver Anniversary edition and a 1995 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car.
George and Lesa, along with their Corvette friends traveled to many car shows, cruise ins and also to the National Corvette Museum in KY. On Memorial Day he often drove dignitaries in the parade. Working on cars was his favorite pastime, whether on his own vechicles or his friends’.
He was a faithful attendee of the St. Marys Methodist Church, formerly the First United Methodist Church. He loved his church family and the special friendships made there.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters; Lisa VanAlstine and her husband Charles of St. Marys and Lori Burke of Winter Garden, Florida and by 2 granddaughters; Ciara VanAlstine and Cassidy Burke (Robert Stadelman), and by a great-granddaughter; Eva. He is also survived by a brother; Alfred “Buddy” Lamb of St. Marys, and by his former wife; Sylvia Schauer Stauffer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son; Jeffery Lamb, who passed away on October 5, 2015.
Funeral Services for the late George H. Lamb will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the St. Marys Methodist Church, 140 N. St. Marys Street, St. Marys, Pa 15857. The family will be welcoming friends at the church beginning at 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral.
Visitation with the family will be at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Friday, July 7, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
