GABE STILLMAN AND DAVID JULIA BANDS TO PERFORM THIS WEDNESDAY, OCT. 9 AT THE DEANE CENTER
This Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m., two bands, one based in Pennsylvania and the other in Florida, will perform in the Coolidge Theatre at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro.
Gabe Stillman of Williamsport, and his band will hit the stage in high gear as they embrace all corners of American Roots Music with their impromptu selection of original gems and carefully chosen covers.
Since landing in the final 8 of the 35th Annual International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee, and further honored as the recipient of the Gibson Guitar Award, Stillman and his band have been focused on expanding their footprint on a national and international level.
A graduate of Boston’s Berklee College of Music, Stillman’s honors include an invitation to support ZZ Top, Eric Gales, Blues Traveler and George Thorogood. He was a Blues Music Award nominee in the Best New Emerging Artist Album category and The Gabe Stillman Band was selected as the Best Blues Band at the 3rd Annual Central PA Music Awards and has been nominated in that category in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Born and raised in Orlando, Florida, David Julia’s early exposure to music came from a melting pot of influences, ranging from classic blues legends like B.B. King and Muddy Waters to modern rock and Americana.
From regionally touring to competing and performing in the Memphis-based Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge four years in a row, Julia is an up and coming force in the country’s Blues scene.
He released his EP, “Simple Things,” in 2016, consisting of four original works and one cover. His first album, “Inspired,” produced by Mike Zito and released on the VizzTone Record label, debuted in 2018. The title “Inspired” is paying tribute to the Blues masters whose recordings he has learned from.
Julia has been personally touched by the current generation of musicians who have taught, befriended, encouraged, and helped him along the way. He credits his success to the unwavering support of his family, and thanks them for always pushing him to follow his passion.
The two bands first met about 10 years ago. “We got to know each other on the road,” said Julia. “We became friends at festivals where we were playing. About five years ago we began performing together.”
For this concert, each band will first play their own music and then join to perform as one group.
This is the fourth concert in the Deane Center’s indoor fall entertainment series sponsored by Ward Manufacturing and C&N.
The concert is BYOB with audience members encouraged to bring their favorite snacks and beverages and sit at a table with family and friends.
Admission is $30. For tickets and to reserve a table, call the Deane Center at 570-724-6220 or arrive at 7 p.m. on Wednesday to purchase tickets at the door, if available.
