Francis L. “Franny” Friedl, 98, of 104 West Theresia Road St. Marys, PA
Francis L. “Franny” Friedl, 98, of 104 West Theresia Road (also known as Zwack’s Pond), died on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Elk Haven Nursing Home.
He was born in St. Marys on August 31, 1925, son of the late Frank and Clara Zwack Friedl.
Franny was a lifelong resident of St. Marys and a member of the St. Marys Church. He was a graduate of St. Marys High School, class of 1943. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II in Germany as a Private First Class and was awarded two Purple Hearts for injuries received. He was employed at Stackpole Carbon in the lab for 39 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW for more than 63 years. He loved planting flowers and harvesting vegetables from his garden. His garden was his pride and joy! The rows in the garden were always so straight! He also enjoyed decorating the house at Christmas time. His Christmas tree was incredible to see! Not a branch was left undecorated!
He is survived by his special nieces who grew up living with him at the homestead; Ruth Kosmiski, Jane (Robert) Bennett, Joanne (Michael) Condon and several other nephews and a niece. He is also survived by two great nieces; Lynn (James) Floravit, and Breanne Condon (Nick Uram) and five great-nephews, Jason (Keli) Kosmiski, Troy (Angie) Bennett, David (Kaye) Bennett, Ian (Elizabeth) Condon, and Devin Condon (Daniela Olsen). He is also survived by his great-great nieces, whom he adored; Rachael Floravit, Emma Kosmiski, Kaylie Bennett and Olivia Condon, Maeve Uram and Adelina Condon, and great-great nephews; Maddox and Baron Bennett, and Conor Uram. He was the last member of his immediate family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Edna Pfeufer, and his brother-in-law Joseph Pfeufer, three brothers and their wives, Thomas “Peeper” Friedl (Mary) and Gerard “Jerry” Friedl (Georgiann) and Richard “Lardy” Friedl and his nephew, Andrew Pfeufer who resided with him.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Francis “Franny” Friedl will be celebrated on Monday, June 24, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the St. Marys Church, 315 Church Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Thomas More Sikora, OSB, as Celebrant.
Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.
Interment will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Monday, June 24, 2024 from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM.
Memorial Contributions may made to the St. Marys American Legion, St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail, VFW, Community Nurses, Pinecrest Activities Fund or to Elk Haven Nursing Home Activities Fund.
