Francis E. “Pappy” Cummings, 100, of Port Allegany, PA

Francis E. “Pappy” Cummings, 100, of Port Allegany, passed away Friday (November 21, 2025) at Sena Kean Manor, Smethport.
He was born May 20, 1925 in Port Allegany, the son of Lee and Clara (Peterson) Cummings. On October 14, 1950, in Port Allegany, PA, he married Rosemarie Pritt, who passed away on November 1, 2017. They were married 67 years.
He was a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps and a proud survivor from engaging the enemy on Iwo Jima, serving from 1943 to 1946 as an Armored Amphibian Tractor Crewman.
After the war, “Pappy” worked several different jobs over the years. He was a logger, worked construction, was a highway worker, factory worker, farmer, and retired after many years with L.H. Lincoln & Sons Tannery of Coudersport as superintendent of operations. He retired in 1990 after 40 plus years there. After his retirement, he dedicated his time to his farm in Grimes District.
“Pappy” was a member of the Canoe Fish & Game Club, life member of the VFW in Port Allegany, Life member of the Port Allegany Moose Lodge #460, Port Allegany Star Hose Company, the Marine Corps League, the Marine Corps Association, American Legion of Port Allegany, Independent Order of Oddfellows, was involved as Scout Master and other positions with the Boy Scouts of America Troop #560 of Port Allegany for over 40 years.
He was proud of his accomphishments with Boy Scout Troop #560 of Port Allegany, especially the number of Eagle Scouts he awarded over the years. He loved his farm, and all his cows he took care of over the years.
He is survived by:
Special nephew he considered his son, Rev. James (Carol) Kazimer of Port Allegany and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many great-great nieces and nephews.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rosemarie, one step-brother: Rex Burdick, and two sisters: Marie Crowe and Ruby Bizzaro.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes Inc., 105 Main St., Port Allegany, where funeral and committal services will be held on Tuesday at 11AM with the Rev. Max Simms, officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Port Allegany Honor Guard. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
