Firefighters Squelch Tire Cord Fire At Hyland Landfill in Angelica

At 09:05 this morning we were dispatched along with MTS Ambulance to the Hyland Landfill on Herdman Road in the Town of Angelica for a reported rubbish fire. Upon our arrival it was determined the pile of material burning(estimated to be over 500 cubic yards) was tire cords a by-product of tire recycling.
Tankers and manpower from Belmont, Belfast, Friendship, Scio, and Short Tract were requested as well as an engine from Belmont to draft from a pond on-site and an engine from Cuba to stand by in Angelica. Crews fought the fire for over 2 hrs putting upwards of 60,000 gallons of water on it.
