Elwood Lundquist Hazelton, 91, Of, Wellsboro, PA
Elwood Lundquist Hazelton passed away peacefully, Sunday, July 21, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Elwood was born in Wellsboro, September 19, 1932, son of the late John and Agnes Hazelton. He married the love of his life, the former Lynda H. Withrow, and celebrated 58 years of marriage until her passing on December 29, 2019.
Elwood grew up in Wellsboro, graduated from Wellsboro high School, class of 1950, and owned and operated a dairy farm. Elwood was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
Elwood is survived by his three children, Teresa (Steve) Towne from Dover, DE, Sally (David) James from Norfolk, VA, and Michael (Jill) Hazelton from Chambersburg, PA; seven grandchildren, Erik (Victoria), Matthew, Alyssa, Austin (Amanda), Donovan, Karlyn, and Bryton; three great-grandchildren, Owen, Elizabeth, and Greyson; sister-in-law Pat (Ronald) Chilson of Lakeland, FL; and his beloved cat, Maddie. In addition to his wife and parents, Elwood was preceded in death by his brothers Howard and Harry.
Elwood was known by many for his gentle soul, kindhearted demeanor, strong work ethic, and firm handshake. He loved the outdoors, especially the countryside of his beloved hometown of Wellsboro, PA. He and Lynda spent their retirement tending to the home Elwood built, ballroom dancing, square dancing, traveling, and sharing special times with their family. Elwood enjoyed gardening, landscaping, reading, watching game shows, making and fixing things, and doing puzzles of all types. He taught family members the thrill of the hunt for the best deals at estate sales, thrift stores, and auctions.
Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects, Friday, July 26, 2024, from 6-8pm at the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, 139 Main St., Wellsboro. A funeral service will be held, Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Pearl St., Wellsboro, with Mother Janis Yskamp, officiating. Burial will follow in Wellsboro Cemetery.
