Edwin A. Archer Jr., 72, Port Allegany, PA
After a courageous battle with cancer, Edwin A. Archer Jr. passed away at the age of 72 on November 11th, 2023. He was surrounded by family at UPMC Cole, where he received end of life care by a compassionate staff.
He was born on June 4, 1951, in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania to Edwin A. Archer Sr. and Genevieve Lewis. He grew up in Keating Summit as the oldest of five children. He attended Austin and Port Allegany School Districts and achieved a GED.
His biggest achievement was becoming a Certified Addiction Counselor for Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services.
He married Linda Nace on July 30th, 1988 and they were married for 35 years at the time of his death.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, and youngest brother James “Diamond Jim” Archer.
He is survived by his dedicated wife, two sons Douglas (Valerie) of Port Allegany and Brian (Tabitha) of Camden, South Carolina, as well as eight grandchildren; Sierra, Gracie, Noah, Jadon, Avery, Eve, Elise, and Ransom.
He also is survived by two sisters; Deb DuBois (Gary) of Iowa and Linda Ayers (Pete) of Port Allegany, one brother; Rick Archer (Deb) of Roulette, as well as multiple nieces and nephews.
Besides spending time with his family, Ed liked to fish and camp. He was a long time enthusiast of Hills Creek Lake in Wellsboro and for more than twenty years enjoyed the campground with his family. He also loved the beach and took several trips to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina.
He loved Friday night card games, beating his grandkids at Pegs, and his large collection of movies. He also joins his beloved dog Tyson and had a deep love for their current dog, Cookie. He had an infectious sense of humor in any situation and until the end. Ed was also a father by choice, with an unmatched sense of patience and wisdom that will guide his sons and grandchildren for the rest of their lives.
Family and friends can attend a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, November 15th at 5pm, at the First Church of God, in Eldred, PA.
