Edith J. Cortina, 89, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home, and formerly of 142 Teaberry Road, St. Marys, PA
Edith J. Cortina, 89, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home, and formerly of 142 Teaberry Road, St. Marys, PA passed away Sunday, December 18, 2022, at Elk Haven, after a lengthy illness.
She was born June 2, 1933, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Zolferino and Mary Rose Nart Marconi. Edith was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1951. She was a retired cafeteria worker for the St. Marys Area School District and was a caterer for many years.
On August 24, 1957, in the Queen of the World Church, Edith married Silvio D. Cortina, who preceded her in death on March 26, 2017. They shared more than 59 years of marriage.
Edith is survived by two daughters: Kim Cortina and Sharon Moore (Jeff), both of St. Marys; two sons: Michael Cortina (Kathy) and Raymond Cortina (Aimee), both of St. Marys; five grandsons: Alex Moore, Jeffrey Moore, Jake Cortina (Jolene), Ben Cortina, and Anthony Cortina; two step-grandchildren: Kyle Gaton and Kaitlyn Gaton; and by two brothers: Alfred “Corky” Marconi (Marilys) of St. Marys and Andrew “Ike” Marconi of California.
In addition to her husband and parents, Edith was preceded in death by two sisters: Marguerite Schaut and Louise Mattiuz; and by three brothers: Victor, Aurelius, and Charles Marconi.
Edith was a member of the Queen of the World Church, donating much of her time doing sympathy cards for the church. She enjoyed cooking and found great joy babysitting her grandchildren in their younger years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 10:00AM, with the Rev. Jeffery Noble, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 from 8:30AM until 9:30AM.
