Eagle Watch is Sunday, Jan. 14 at Tioga-Hammond Dam Spillway
At 9 a.m. this Sunday, Jan. 14, a free, one-hour Eagle Watch led by local eagle expert and enthusiast Matt West will be at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Tioga-Hammond Dam Ives Run Mixing Channel at 94-98 South Main Street in Tioga Borough in Tioga County.
This is the best location in the area to view bald eagles in winter. West will answer questions about these amazing raptors. Bring a camera and binoculars. A limited number of spotting scopes and binoculars will be available. The Tioga County Woodland Owners Association is sponsoring this event, and will provide hot beverages and maybe some snacks.
To get to the mixing channel from Wellsboro, take Route 287 north for 17 miles (past the Ives Run Recreation Area) turn right at the stop sign onto South Main Street in Tioga Borough and drive a distance of one mile to the parking area, including to the end of South Main Street, wind past the park entrance gate and drive past the mixing channel and park. For information, call the Ives Run Visitor Information Center at 570-835-5281.
