Dolores Mary Margaret “Dot” Straub, 94, previously of 121 Race Street, and for the last 6 years of 209 Teaberry Road, St. Marys, PA, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the home of her son Aaron and daughter-in-law Joanne on Wednesday March 5, 2025.
She was born December 29, 1930 in St. Marys, the daughter of the late Fred and Frances Zitzler Krellner. Dot was a lifelong resident of the area, graduating from Central Catholic High School in 1948, and then from Marywood College in Scranton with a bachelor’s degree in Education in 1952. Dolores worked as a teacher for several years in the Catholic School System in St Marys, being the first lay teacher working alongside the Sisters of St. Joseph’s Convent. Upon having her own family, Dolores devoted the rest of her life to her husband and children.
On January 2, 1956 in St Mary’s Catholic Church, she married Victor C. Straub, who survives. They were blessed to share 69 years of marriage.
In addition to her loving husband, Dot is survived by her daughter, Missy Straub Jacobs (Scott) of St. Marys; sons: Aaron Straub (Joanne) of St. Marys, Thomas Straub (Cheryl) of St. Marys, and John Straub (Ruthie) of State College; twelve grandchildren: Autumn, Jonathan, Michael, AJ, Doug, Allison, Christopher, Brian, Laura, Hannah, Noah, and Maria; sixteen great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends, whom she loved dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia, in infancy. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Dot was a member of Queen of the World Church since its founding, which her father Fred was instrumental in the establishment of the Parish. She was involved in many functions at the church throughout her life. Dot volunteered at the Christian Food Bank for many years and was a long-time board member. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and for the Re-Sale shop for many years.
Dolores was a faith filled Catholic her whole life participating for many years with her husband in CFM (Catholic Family Movement). Dolores loved and lived her Catholic Faith her entire life and attended religious trips to Medjugorje, Guadalupe, Lourdes, and Rome.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 12:00PM at Queen of the World Church with Reverend Jeffrey Noble, Pastor, celebrating. Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 2:00PM until 4:00PM and Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 10:15AM to 11:15AM at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home in St. Marys.
