He is survived by his mother, Susan Larson Scheerer, his stepfather Zeal “Sonny” Hinkle, his brother Daniel Scheerer (Michelle Janssen-Scheerer), step brother Beau Hinkle (Tiffany Hinkle).

He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin Scheerer, and his brother, Brad Scheerer. Dennis was a proud and loving father to Erin Rumsey, Stormie Scheerer, Blue Reisinger, and Daisy Scheerer.

He absolutely adored his grandchildren: Ayden, Alessa, TJ, Millie, Ellie, and Roree—who always brought a smile to his face. Dennis had a big heart, a creative mind, and hands that were always busy. He had a deep love for cooking—he could whip up a meal that made everyone feel at home, and he truly enjoyed every part of it, especially feeding the people he cared about. He was an incredibly talented artist, often found sketching or drawing detailed, thoughtful pieces that amazed his family and friends. He also had a knack for building things, especially when it came to his ponds and fish tanks.

Creating peaceful little worlds full of water, plants, and fish was one of his greatest joys—and something he loved sharing with others. One of his most meaningful bonds was with his dog, Bailey. Dennis rescued her, but in many ways, she rescued him right back. The love and loyalty they shared was undeniable, and Bailey remained by his side through everything. Dennis had a way of making ordinary things feel special.

His laugh, his quiet wisdom, and his endless creativity will be missed more than words can say. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, with details to be shared with friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you cook a meal for someone you love, have a blackberry brandy with a smile, pick up a pencil and draw, or take a quiet moment by the water—just like Dennis would have.
