David C. Swanson, 89, of Colonial Heights, Bradford, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at the Bradford Ecumenical Home.

Born on July 13, 1935, in Gifford, he was a son of the late Oscar C. and Margaret (Cotton) Swanson.

He attended Bradford High School, left school and joined the United States Air Force. He served for two years and was honorably discharged on March 31, 1961. After completing his military obligation, he returned to Bradford and obtained his GED.

On September 12, 1958, in Aiken he married Ardith (Hathaway) Swanson who passed away in 1988. On June 10, 1989, in the Grace Lutheran Church he married Janice (Kime) Swanson who survives.

Dave worked for the United States Postal Service as a letter courier for many years until his retirement in 1990.

He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, where he served as Deacon, Usher, delivered communion to shut ins, and collected recyclables for the church.  He taught hunter safety course for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. While golfing with three generations of his family he witnessed his great grandson hit a hole in one. He enjoyed going for daily walks with his dog Jacks.

Surviving in addition of his wife Janice of 35 years, is one daughter, Rev. Charlene R. (Patrick) Schine-Gorman, of Bradford, two stepsons, Christopher Allen PHD, of Ludlow, TN, and Grant Allen, of Allegany, NY, five grandchildren, David Mollander, Michael Mollander, Elizabeth Mollander, Nancy Schine, and Brian Schine, 15 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, three sisters, Lillian Nuzzo-Mezzelo, Patricia Ryan and Grace Yamamoto.

Family will receive friends on Monday, November 18, 2024, from 10:00 am to Noon, in the Grace Lutheran Church, where at Noon funeral services will be held with Interim Pastor Barry Keurulainen, officiating. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park with military honors accorded by the Honor Guard of the Bradford American Legion Post 108.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
