Austin – The kids might be back in school but there is still one more long weekend left this summer! Sinnemahoning State Park is excited to offer a full slate of recreation and educational public programs for the upcoming Labor Day Holiday Weekend. Whether you are looking to paddle the George B. Stevenson Reservoir or to tag a Monarch Butterfly there is something for everyone at Sinnemahoning State Park! 8:00 P.M-9:30 P.M –Monarch Movie– Join a park naturalist for a showing of The Incredible Journey of the Butterflies and learn about the Monarch Butterfly’s long migration down to Mexico.

Saturday, September 2nd, 2023
9:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M. –Ride the Lowlands Trail– Join a park naturalist on a guided ride along the Lowlands Trail. Bring your own bike or borrow one of the parks loaner bikes. Participants should expect to ride 8 miles total. Registration required. To register visit: events.dcnr.pa.gov or call park office at 814-647-8401.

3:00 P.M-5:00 P.M –Monarch Watch Butterfly Tagging– A Monarch butterfly presentation will be followed by a short walk to catch, tag, and release monarch butterflies. Aerial nets provided. Wear closed-toe shoes and be prepared to walk through fields. All ages welcome.

9:00 P.M.-10:00 P.M. –September Stargazing– Experience the wonder of the park at night through a laser-guided tour of the night sky. Telescopes available if weather permits.

Sunday, September 3rd, 2023
Pontoon Tours of the Stevenson Reservoir– Join park staff for a fun and informative 1-hour tour, as we cruise the shoreline of the George B. Stevenson Reservoir in search of wildlife. Group size is limited. To reserve a seat, please pre-register. Pre-registration is not required but is strongly recommended. There is no fee for regular Sunday interpretive pontoon boat tours, but DONATIONS ARE REQUESTED.

9:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M.-Bird Walk– Join a Park Naturalist on a guided bird walk. Binoculars are encouraged but not required. The park has a limited supply of binoculars available on a first come first serve basis.

1:00 P.M.-3:00 P.M.-Kayak Nature Tour– – Take a relaxing paddle out on the lake in search of wildlife and peaceful morning recreation! Borrow the park’s kayaks and equipment or bring your own.
