Cherry Springs Programs for Independence Day Weekend
Visit Cherry Springs State Park during 4th of July Weekend to marvel at some of the darkest skies we’ll have all July. Park educators and partners are offering several different programs to help you experience the wonders of the stars above you.
Please note that Cherry Springs is undergoing construction this summer. Temporary parking and programming areas are in place. Please follow signs to stay with the flow of traffic. Coming to the park, and arriving early? Stop in for a family-friendly Nature at Night program from 8 PM to 8:45 PM on July 4, July 5, and July 6 to learn more about the creatures that love the night as much as we do. All ages, no registration needed.
To learn about stars and planets, come to a free laser guided Night Sky Tour on July 4, July 5, and July 6 from 9:15 PM – 11 PM. Marvel at wonder of the night sky at Cherry Springs State Park through a laser-guided tour conducted by park staff. If conditions allow, look through telescopes at some of the key features of the summer. Telescopes will be available from roughly 10 PM onward. Availability is subject to staff/volunteer availability, weather conditions, and crowd size limitations. Registration encouraged, but not required. Those interested in experiencing a more personalized, small-group telescope tour of the night sky can join North Star Outdoor Guides for a private telescope tour of the night sky with Private Dark Sky Telescope Tour: Gods in the Sky. Participants in this program will be guaranteed ample telescope time without long waits. July 5 and July 6 from 9:30 PM – 11:15 PM. Cost is $25 per person. Learn to take photos of the night sky with a DSLR camera you already own, local photographer Curt Weinhold is offering a Nightscape Photo Workshop on Saturday, July 6th. Curt Weinhold, a PA Wilds Juried Artisan, will teach participants how photograph constellations & the Milky Way. Class is NOT for visitors wanting to take photos through a telescope.
