Changes for Sinnemahone Triple Crown in 2024
The Sinnemahone Triple Crown continues to grow while supporting local businesses and allowing residents to explore Cameron County waterways and trails. In 2024 changes are coming to two of the events.
The Cameron County Chamber of Commerce stepped in several years ago when organizers of the Cameron County Canoe and Kayak Classic retired from the event. That event held in April of each year, has had a date change since PA Fish and Boat designated the first Saturday in April as opening day for trout season. In 2024 the paddling event will be held on the Driftwood Branch of the Sinnemahoning Creek on Saturday, April 13. Registration will open by the middle of January.
The second race to see changes is the gravel bike race. This year Project Pedal is presenting Beyond the Dirt. It will be held the weekend of August 16-18 at the Cameron County Fairgrounds. Experienced rider Jeff Weidow from Elk County is taking the lead on organizing the event which will remain a Sinnemahone Triple Crown qualifier. Weidow says he plans to create an atmosphere where riders will have the opportunity to compare notes on this race and others. Weidow hopes to attract major biking sponsors and expand the mileage of the event. Registration is open now at https://www.bikereg.com/beyondthedirt.
The trail run is set for Saturday, October 19. The start and finish will remain the same, however there could be a slight change to the course. DCNR is working with the chamber organizers to eliminate a section of the race that travels over private property and, in the past, has had a conflict with youth hunting. Registration for the trail run will open by the middle of January.
Volunteers are always welcome to attend the organization meetings. The first meeting for the 2024 races is set for Wednesday, January 10, 6 pm at the chamber office.
