ELKLAND, PA – Elkland police continue their investigation and search for an alleged suspect that is responsible for breaking into a home in Elkland Borough.
According to police, the incident occurred on Monday, March 20, 2023. Police noted that a man around 5’5″ wearing black pants, a black shirt, as well as a black mask allegedly broke into a home and attacked the owner. The suspect then demanded money from the owner. The homeowner was able to escape from the man.
Police are asking anyone with any information or surveillance footage/trail cam footage of the incident to call (814) 258-5419.

Thomas M. Sabolcik, 65, of Port Allegany, passed away Wednesday (March 22, 2023) at at his residence in Port Allegany.
He was born August 20, 1957 in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of Methada Sabolcik and Violet Chraska . On August 29, 1988, in Moon Township, PA, he married Mary A. Gallagher, who survives.
Tom was a graduate of Belleview High School and attended Slippery Rock University, earning a degree in Environmental Science.
He was served in the U.S. Navy and was a wildlife tech in Camp Hill, PA and a PA Game Warden in Port Allegany. He worked for 36 years before his retirement in 2018.
He was a member of the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by:
Two sons: Christopher (Emily) Sabolcik of Winston Salem, NC and Ryan (Megan) Sabolcik of Pittsburgh, PA
Three brothers: Robert Sabolcik of Belleview, PA, Russell (Diane) Sabolcik and Keith Sabolcik, both of Pittsburgh, PA
Two sisters: Frieda Regan of Beaver, PA and Annamarie Mauldin of Pittsburgh, PA
Along with several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David Sabolcik.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Saturday, March 25 at 5 PM at the Veteran’s Memorial Home of Route 155, Port Allegany. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 28 at 11 AM in St. Gabriel’s Church, Port Allegany. Military Honors will be accorded by the Port Allegany Honor Guard.

Wellsville Police arrested Michael A. Russo, age 23 of Rochester, charging him with Forgery 2nd (Class D Felony) and Grand Larceny 4th (Class E Felony). The charges stem from an investigation conducted by Wellsville Police of an altered/forged check that was passed in the Village of Wellsville in July of 2022. Russo was located by the New York State Police and turned over to Wellsville Police. Russo was processed and arraigned before Wellsville Village Justice Thompson. Russo was released and is due back in Wellsville Village Court on April 4th at 4:30 pm.

(PORT ALLEGANY, Pennsylvania): District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that K9s searched a local school on Friday, March 17, 2023. At the request of school administration, K9s searched Port Allegany High School.
The K9s, along with McKean County Detectives; K9 handlers and Officers with the McKean County Detective K9 Unit and Drug Task Force; Bradford City Police Department K9 and handler; and Port Allegany Police Department, searched various locations in the school.
No narcotics were found.
The K9s are frequently requested to search area facilities as a deterrence to anyone seeking to bring drugs or other contraband into facilities. The searches are one step taken by school administration to prevent students from using drugs.
