Shirley A. Miller, 90, of Wellsboro, passed away Tuesday December 3, 2024, in her home surrounded by family. She was born August 1, 1934, in Runnemede, NJ, to Lawrence and Alice (Martin) Jones. On November 28, 1958, she married Robert E. Miller with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. Shirley owned and operated the Yellow Basket Shop for many years. She enjoyed crafts and participated in craft fairs, and often worked food concessions at the Morris Snake Hunt.
Patricia “Pat” Long, 84, of Smethport, passed away Sunday (December 8, 2024) at Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport.
She was born January 18, 1940 in Kane, PA, the daughter of James Milton and Margaret DiCapua (Button) Barr.
She was an Allied Security Guard employed by the Quaker State Refinery of Farmers Valley, an accountant, bar tender at the Maple’s Inn, server in multiple restaurants and other jobs she worked with pride and dignity, knowing she was providing an example of work ethics to her family.
She was a member of The Smethport Garden club, the Order of the Eastern Star #15, The King St. Discussion Group, Den Mother to Cub Scouts, supporter of Hamlin Memorial Library, and Author of “Inside the Fence”.
Daniel J. Butchello, Jr. of 140 ½ S. Clinton Street passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.
D.J. came into the world with a bang on July 4, 1960, in Olean and was the son of Daniel J. and Stephanie A. (Rieger) Butchello.
D.J. was a 1978 graduate of Olean High School where he was a gifted student. He attended Cornell University and later received his Bachelors of Business Administration degree in Finance from St. Bonaventure University in 1992. D.J. also excelled in athletics and was an especially fearsome competitor on the football field. He was a member of the undefeated 1977 Olean High School Football team that was ranked #1 in New York State and was named to the Big 30 All-Star Teams in both football and baseball.

Richard R. Steadman of Portville Olean Road passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024, following an illness.
Richard was born on July 18, 1949, in Buffalo and was the son of Frederick R. and Elizabeth L. Robinson Steadman. He was formerly married to Nancy Marton. On June 14, 1993, at the Good News Chapel in Lewiston, Maine he married Linda A. MacDonald, who predeceased him on May 8, 2019.

Nancy E. OUTHOUSE, 82, of Wellsville, NY, died Saturday, December 7, 2024 in Wellsville Manor Care Center. Born January 16, 1942, in Canandaigua, she was the daughter of Charles and Jean Frederick Baldwin.
A 1960 graduate of Bloomfield Central School, she was employed by Eastman Kodak in Rochester NY. Nancy enjoyed sewing and quilting. She retired to Orlando, FL, where she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society.
Richard A. Murray (Genie Masters), 66, of Olean, formerly of Smethport, Pa., passed away Monday (Dec. 2, 2024) at ECMC in Buffalo, after battling cancer.
Born Sept. 7, 1958, in Olean, he was a son of Irvine and Sarah Ingalls Murray. Richard was a graduate of Oswayo Valley High School, Class of 1976, in Shinglehouse, Pa. Richard loved music and played in several bands through the years. He could pick up almost any instrument and learn to play it without lessons. His primary profession was as a mechanic, and he was known to many as the guy who could fix almost anything.
Ivan F. Smith, Jr., 76, of Russell, PA., died Thursday evening, December 5, 2024, peacefully with his wife at his bedside, at UPMC Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA.
Delores J. Monroe of Hamilton Ave passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Olean General Hospital.
Delores was born on July 28, 1932, in Olean and was the daughter of Delos and Nellie Garfield Richardson. She married George Monroe who predeceased her.

Mark G. Carapellatti of Independence Drive passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Olean General Hospital.
Mark was born on April 25, 1963, in Olean and was the son of Raymond W. and Patricia A. Barr Carapellatti.
Mark was a 1981 graduate of Archbishop Walsh. He worked many jobs in the Olean Area. In 1992 he opened On the Side Liquor which he operated until 2009. Mark enjoyed watching and attending NASCAR races.
Ashley Nicole HUTCHINSON, 30, of Scio, NY, died Wednesday, December 4, 2024. Born July 12, 1994, in Elmira, NY, she was the daughter of Mark Hutchinson and Donna Perla.
She was a graduate of North Penn High School in Blossburg, PA. Ashley was known for her love of nature. She had a passion for photography and loved taking pictures of her friends and family. She enjoyed walking in the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, and its scenery inspired her beautiful photographs. Ashley was an avid music lover and attended concerts whenever possible.
Judith E. METCALF BACKER, 78, of Westfield, PA, died Wednesday, December 4, 2024 in Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Elmira, NY.
Born August 4, 1946, in Hornell, NY, she was the daughter of Leland A. “Pete” and Willa M. Parsons Cary. On July 3, 1968, in Mills, she married John R. Metcalf, who predeceased her on March 4, 2003. On February 22, 2020, in Potter Brook, she married Donald L. Backer, who survives.
A graduate of Northern Potter High School, she earned an associate degree in operating room technician at Robert Packer School of Nursing in Sayre. Judy was a member of the People’s Church of Potter Brook, Order of the Eastern Star #95 in Ulysses, and served on the Hector Township Board of Election as majority inspector.
Rita (Wheatley) Beck, 91, of Wellsboro, passed away early Thursday December 5, 2024, at her home surrounded by family. She was born September 3, 1933, in Williamsport, to Costis and Elpiniki (Samarakis) Vaganos. She graduated from Wellsboro Area High School and worked as a case worker for the Department of Public Welfare in Wellsboro. She enjoyed music and sang with the Wellsboro Women’s Chorus, loved cooking and Greek food, gardened and especially enjoyed her flowers. She worked her farm for more than fifty years, and continued to be active, walking everywhere and doing aerobics with Tana. But most of all, Rita was devoted to her family and lived out the life of a true matriarch.

Veronica F. Albaugh, 87, of Clarendon, Pa., died Sunday morning, December 1, 2024, at Warren Manor Nursing Home, Warren, PA., after an extended illness.
She was born March 1, 1937, in Philadelphia, PA. She was the daughter of Francis Henry and Jennie McMeley Anderson. She has resided the past 60 years in the Clarendon, PA. area. She was a member of Holy Redeemer R.C. Church. Veronica enjoyed embroidering and crocheting.
She is survived by her children – Shawn A. Albaugh of Clarendon, PA., Charlene Eakin and husband, Robert, Christine Rose all of Waterford, PA., 1 Sister – Margaret Drayger, 1 Brother – Albert Anderson all of Philadelphia, PA., 1 Grandson, Michael Shellito, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ronald Albaugh, who died January 31, 2022.

Conway A. Clayson, 78, of 9384 New Albion Rd, Cattaraugus, and a former Franklinville resident, passed away Wednesday, December 04, 2024 at home after a lengthy illness.
Born on May 10, 1946, in New York City, he was a son of Richard and Opal Fisher Clayson. On May 1, 1972, in St. Ana, California, he married the former Janice J. Scroggins who predeceased him on March 15, 2010.
He served in the United State Marine Corps from 1964-1985. He then went to work at Empire Cheese in Cuba as a Forklift Operator and retired after 22 years. In retirement he worked part time as a Nurse’s Aide at the Houghton Nursing Home and Eden Heights.
A. Kelsey Carleton, age 93, died at home on Thursday, November 28, 2024. Kelsey was born on December 14, 1930 in Hammond, Pennsylvania, a son of the late George and Marguerite (Whitney) Carleton. He was married to Cleone (Cranmer) Carleton, who passed away in 2021, for just a few weeks shy of 72 years. After serving in the Marine Corps during the Korean War, he moved with his family to Tioga, PA where he resided at the time of his death.
Kelsey was a person of many and varied talents and interests. He was a big fan of baseball, first playing on and then coaching local Little League teams. Later his attention turned to gardening. Customers placed orders for his heaping quart baskets of delicious strawberries every year for decades; he was also known for his late summer potato crop which drew a huge following as well. He could debate the pros and cons of red vs. white potatoes with anyone. To take the gardening season into the fall, for many years he produced apple cider using an old-fashioned cider press.

Freida M. (Stone) Goodyear: Loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister
Freida M. Goodyear, 79, of 7250 Kossuth Road, Bolivar, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 after a lengthy illness.
Born on August 16, 1945, in Little Genesee, she was a daughter of C. Fred and Margaret L. Windsor Stone. On June 27, 1964, in Eldred, she married William Goodyear who predeceased her November 12, 2021.
She was a graduate of Bolivar Central School Class of 1963 and was proud to be a Bulldog. She then went to work as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone, Bolivar Office, for several years.
At one time she owned and operated the Kozy Kitchen and the This and That Shop with her husband. She then worked for Al & Pete Glintz in their store from 1986-1995. She was a housekeeper numerous families in the Bolivar Area and had also worked at the Bolivar Shop and Save, but retired in 2013 to spend more time with her husband.
Always wanting to help others Freida served her community as a life member of the Bolivar Fire Department where she served as secretary for 14 years and also was on the Ambulance Squad. She later joined the Richburg Fire Department and was also a member of the Followers of the Way Church in Nile, and donated time at the Little Genesee Church Food Pantry and Bolivar Food Pantry
She was extremely appreciative of her family and friends that she met throughout her life and she wanted everyone to know how much they meant to her, her grandchildren were the highlight of her life.

Thomas E. “Tom” Wilson, 77, a lifelong resident of Hebron, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
Born on Wednesday, August 13, 1947 in Coudersport, he was a son of James E. and Delores V. Gilbert Wilson. On April 19, 1965 in Olean, NY, he married Ruth L. Hanley, who survives.
Tom was a graduate of Coudersport High School, Class of 1965. After graduating he worked with his father in the family business.
Tom was a member of Eulalia Lodge #342 F&AM, Coudersport and was a member of the Coudersport Consistory. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing softball and baseball. He very much enjoyed his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. His greatest loves were his wife, his family, and animals of all kinds.
