Sara R. “Sally” Burkett, 91, of Derrick City, PA peacefully passed away unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, November 12, 2022.

She was born on June 15, 1931in Bradford, a daughter of the late A.O. and Elinor Meachem Alexander.

She was a 1949 graduate of the Bradford Senior High School.

On April 3, 1954 in Reno, NV; she married Howard R. Burkett who preceded her in death on July 11, 2012.

Sally was a proud wife of an Air Force officer who loved taking care of her family and baking; she was especially famous for making her peanut butter cookies.

She is survived by one daughter, Susan D. (Dr. David) Godfrey of Bradford; two sons, Howard R. (Julie) Burkett of Brackney and Jeffrey O. (Nancy) Burkett of Hallstead; one brother, John Alexander of Bradford; one sister, Karen Calderwood of Bradford; four grandchildren, Howard D. Burkett, Michael B. Burkett, Jessica N. (Michael) Misciagno and Alexander D. (Kimberly) Burkett; seven great grandchildren, Michaela, Bailey, Peyton, Chloe and Samantha Burkett and Dominic and Erik Misciagno and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by four brothers, Mahlon “Fat” Alexander, James Alexander, Gerald “Meach” Alexander and Samuel Alexander and two sisters, Molly McAndrews and Elinor Wasden

A private celebration of her life will be held at the convenience of the family.

Donald Edward Gosnell, 84, of Farmville, VA, formerly of Coudersport, passed away Friday November 11, 2022 at the Clifton House in Amelia Courthouse, VA. 

He was born April 29, 1938 in Youngstown, OH to Kenneth and Mae (McDonald) Gosnell.  He graduated from high school, and on June 6, 1959 he married Betty Ann Falk, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.  He owned and operated Gosnell’s Plumbing and Heating in Coudersport. 

Donald liked to golf with his wife (each of them scored two holes in one), was a member and past president of the Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department, a life member of Moose Lodge 460, and a 63 year member of the Masonic Lodge.

Donald is survived by his wife:  Betty Ann Gosnell of Farmville, VA; a son:  Donald K. (Ann) Gosnell of Farmville, VA; two grandsons:  Jason (Shemeka) Daughenbaugh and William (Amanda) Gosnell; a granddaughter: Heather (James) Wilkins; and seven great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Anita D. Johnson, 90, of Smethport, PA passed away Monday (November 14, 2022) at Lakeview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Smethport.

She was born October 20, 1932 in Warren, PA, the daughter of Raymond Dickerson and Lorena (Schumann) Dickerson. On July 20, 1957, she married C. Russell Johnson, who passed away on May 27, 2016.

Anita graduated from Warren High School and attended Slippery Rock Teachers College with a health and physical education degree.  She then received her Master’s Degree from St. Bonaventure University.

She taught health and physical education for the Smethport High School.  She then moved on to being a guidance counselor at Smethport Area High School before her retirement.

Anita was faculty advisor for the “Varsity S” at Smethport High School, served on the Smethport School Board for 20 years, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Red Hats, was president of the Women’s Bowling Association in Smethport, was a member of the Republican Women of McKean County and was a committee person with the Republican Party of McKean County.

Anita is survived by:

One brother:  Milton Dickerson of Jay, NY.

And many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and close friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers: Raymond, Lloyd, Paul, Robert and Herbert Dickerson, and three sisters:  Lorena Dickerson, Joan Nosel and Sally Lampley.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10-12 noon at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, where funeral and committal services will begin at noon with the Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport.

Alfred Earl ANTHONY, 85, of Largo, FL, died Wednesday, May 23, 2022 in Largo Medical Center following a brief illness.  

Born January 22, 1937, in Blossburg, PA, he was the son of Alfred W. Anthony and Martha Hammond Anthony.  

Alfred grew up in North Fork, PA.  For his last years of school, he and his sister, Mary, went to live with relatives in Salamanca, where he graduated from Little Valley High School.  After returning to his home in North Fork, he attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Harrison Valley.  Here he was reacquainted with and married Elsie Potter, with whom he had four children.  

He attended Nyack Missionary College in Nyack, NY.  After college, he drove the Shortline Bus into Manhattan.  This is where he met his second wife, Anne C. Dove.  They had one daughter.  They resided in Goshen, NY, during which he worked in Manhattan at First National City Bank in Escrow.  When he left the bank in the 1970’s, he decided to change careers and became a chef and maître d’ and partnered with many restaurants in New York.  

In 1984, he moved to Florida which would become his home for the rest of his life.  He was known by his local friends as Tony.  There he also worked as a chef and then owned a successful landscaping business for many years.  Alfred was a man of many talents.  He was an accomplished equestrian; he was in the Hunt Club with his wife, Anne, and rode his horse Peanuts in the Windy Hollow Hunt in Orange County, NY.  He was an avid golfer and loved fishing.  He was an expert gardener and was knowledgeable about plants, flowers, and palm trees.  He was very musical; he played the piano and had a lovely voice.  Most of all, Alfred was a philanthropist and a devout Christian.  He spent most of his free time volunteering at the Bridgepoint Church and at Northside Christian School.  

For the last ten years of his life, he lived at the Freedom Square Nursing Home.  

Surviving are:  five children, Alfred (Deborah) Anthony of Spencerport, NY, Deborah (Mark) Kinem, of Jamestown, NY, Gregory Anthony of Whitesville, NY, Jeffrey Anthony of Arab, AL, and Olivia Dove Anthony (Nicola Vaglini) of Cecina (LI) Italy;  fifteen grandchildren, Amanda, Katelyn, Sean, Abigail, Joseph, Jared, Gabriel, Jason, Benjamin, Orin, Aurora, Kayla, Cherokee, Zachary, and Ian;  six great-grandchildren, Madison, Gavin, Charlotte, Jax, Eleanor, and Judson;  a sister, Mary Van Pelt of Harrison Valley, PA;  nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

 In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Anne Anthony;  four brothers, William Anthony, Richard E. Anthony, James N. Anthony, and David Anthony;  and a sister, Ardath Snyder Judd.  

Friends may call at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Harrison Valley, PA on Saturday November 26, 2022 from 12:30 – 1:00 PM, with a Memorial Service following at 1:00 PM. Rev. Kevin Cornish will officiate. Burial will be in Brookfield Cemetery.

Janice M. McSwain, 60, of Gaines, PA, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2022.

Born February 12, 1962, in Bensalem, PA, she was a daughter of the late Francis J. and Janice M. (O’Donnell) Dougherty.  She was married to Rickey McSwain, who survives.

Janice worked as a security guard for the Kellington Protection Services at the gas wells.

She attended the Pine Creek Valley United Methodist Church in Gaines and enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Surviving in addition to her husband, Rickey McSwain, are a daughter, Morgan (Matthew) Woodruff, Painted Post, NY; a brother, Frank Dougherty, Coudersport, PA; Debbie (Bud) Paul, Germania, PA; and one niece and three nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time.

Marjorie H. Woods, 93, of 232 South Kendall Avenue, Bradford, passed away Friday, November 11, 2022, surrounded by her family, at Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Born September 5, 1929, in Bradford, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth Harper and Bernice (Newman) Moore.

Marge was a 1947 graduate of Bradford High School.

On December 20, 1947, in the First Free Methodist Church, she married Guy H. Woods who preceded her in death on December 9, 2006.

Marjorie was employed at Dresser Manufacturing prior to starting her family; later she reentered the workforce at Corning Glass where she was an Executive Secretary.

She was a former member of the Sawyer United Methodist Church and attended the Rew United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her three grandchildren who gave her the nickname ChaGranny. And there was nothing in her life more special than her six great grandchildren.

She enjoyed reading stories to her grand and great grandchildren and taking them to the duck pond to feed the ducks. She especially loved traveling, family picnics and toasting marshmallows around a campfire.

Surviving is one daughter, Diane (Bruce) DeWalt, of Kissimmee, FL, one son, William Guy Woods, of Kissimmee FL, three grandsons, Timothy (Heather) Gross, Todd (Amy Jo) Gross, and Thomas (Stacey) Gross, six great grandchildren, Timothy Malasky, Travis Gross, Tyler Gross, Tyus Gross, Samantha Jean Gross, and Tristan Gross.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Guy of 59 years.

Family will receive friends on Sunday November 20, 2022 in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc, 372 East Main Street, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. At 3:00 pm, funeral services will be held with Rev. Beth Rosler, Pastor of the Rew United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park.

Mary M. Allen, 89, of 6 Northgate Drive, Bradford, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2022, surrounded by her children at Erie County Medical Center, in Buffalo, NY.

Born February 23, 1933, in Bradford, she was the daughter of the late Tennyson and Mary Anna (Holleran) Parsons.

Mary was a 1951 graduate of Saint Bernard High School

On January 8, 1966, in St. Francis Church, she married Emery J. Allen, Jr., who survives.

Mary was employed in the billing department at Dresser Manufacturing, and in the cafeteria at St. Bernard Elementary school, Floyd C. Fretz and retired from Bradford Area High School as the head cook. 

She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church. She enjoyed traveling and visiting family, watching and cheering for the Buffalo Bills and St Bonaventure basketball teams, listening to Big Band singers and going out to eat and shopping.

Surviving in addition to her husband Emery of 56 years, is one daughter,  Ann (Jim) Bernhard, of Charleston, SC, and  one son, James (Victoria Schmid) Allen, of Prospect Park, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Thomas Parsons.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday November 16, 2022, from 6 PM to 8 PM in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 372 East Main Street. Friends are also invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM on Thursday in St. Francis Church, with Rev. John Jaquel, Pastor, as celebrant. Entombment will follow in St. Bernard Mausoleum.

Dorothy May Barwin, 93, of Capitol Rehabilitation and Heathcare Center, Harrisburg and formerly of Powers Ave., Johnsonburg died early Saturday morning, November 12, 2022 at Capitol Rehabilitation following a lengthy illness. She was born on May 11, 1929 in Ridgway, PA a daughter to the late Merle and Lena Steudler Sprague. On August 19, 1950 in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, she married Regis F. Barwin. He preceded her in death on July 31, 1981.

A lifelong resident of Johnsonburg, Dorothy was a 1948 Graduate of Johnsonburg High School. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church where she had been a member of the Funeral Dinner Committee, the Rosary Altar Society and was a Eucharistic Minister and had taught religious education for many years. She was a member of the Christian Women’s Club of Elk Co., a member of the Johnsonburg Senior Center and had been a volunteer at the Ridgway Hospital Thrift Shop.

Dorothy is survived by her sons Kevin (Darline) Barwin of Erie, Regis Mark Barwin, of Allentown, PA, and John Barwin (Mary Lee) of Dauphin, PA. She is also survived by her grandchildren Christopher (Kristin), David, Regis (Katie), Joshua (Emilee), Caleb (Casey), and Elliott Barwin, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy is predeceased by a son David Barwin, a granddaughter Reca Barwin, brothers Ernie Zierden and Eddie Sprague, sisters Margaret Swanson, Genevieve Ashby, Matilda Wriggle, Marion Patrick and Beryl Phelps. Dorothy was the last surviving person from her immediate family.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy M. Barwin will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg on Friday November 18, 2022 at 11 AM with Fr. Justin Pino, Pastor of St. Leo Magnus Church, Ridgway as Celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery.

Marlene H. Agosti, 86, of 448 N. Michael Street, St. Marys, PA passed away Saturday, November 12, 2022 following a brief illness at Penn Highlands Elk.

She was born November 29, 1935, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Erwin and Hedwig Kraft Laird, Sr.  Marlene was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School.  She was a nurse’s aide at Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital and worked at Sylvania.

On June 1, 1957, in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Marlene married the late Louis J. Agosti, who preceded her in death on July 28, 2015.

She is survived by her son, Steven Agosti and his wife, Judy of St. Marys; her granddaughter, Chelsea Gregory and her husband Ben of St. Marys; and by her nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Marlene was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Evans; and by her brother, Erwin Laird, Jr.  She was the last member of her immediate family.

She enjoyed gardening and all flowers, loved to color, and she took great joy in watching professional wrestling.  Marlene absolutely loved her family and cherished each moment she shared with them.

Patricia Louise Van Cise, 89, of Warren, PA., died on Thursday November 10, 2022, in her home after an extended illness. 

She was born May 8, 1933, in Warren, PA. Patricia was the daughter of Edwin Miller and Vera Jean Hall Miller Holmberg.  She has been a lifelong Warren area resident and a 1951 graduate of Warren High School.  She had been employed with the former S.S. Kresge Company. 

She enjoyed cooking and baking, loved farming, canning, square dancing, roller skating, bicycle riding, horseback riding, and married her high school sweetheart.

She is survived by her 4 children – Steven Van Cise and wife, Pat of Russell, PA., James E. Van Cise and wife, Nancy Maze of Cheyenne, WY., Sherry Lynn Klark and husband, Michael and

Susan L. Knapp and husband, Chanc all of Warren, PA. 8 grandchildren, Michael Rowan (Rhonda), Kelly Van Cise (Patty), Andrew Rowan (Julie), Carrie Zeigler (Kevin), Kristina Miles, April Chisholm (Mark), Brittany Reed (Kurtis), and Ben Hagberg; 11 great grandchildren, Brandon (Destiny), Abigail (Darin), Ashley (Steven), Matthew, Michael Jr., Camron, Alex, Jordan, Aiden, Micah, and Abel; four great grandchildren, Harper, Eloise, Alex, Jacob; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, William G. Van Cise whom she married November 18, 1951, at Calvary Baptist Church, Warren, PA., who died February 3, 2004; three sisters, Yvonne Lee, Phyllis Maze, and Claudia Holmberg.

Alfred A. Citro, 88, of Warren, PA, formerly of Wayne, New Jersey, passed away on Friday November 11, 2022, in Kinzua Healthcare and Rehab Center in Warren.

He was born in Patterson, New Jersey on April 26, 1934, the son of the late Anthony A. and Margaret Martin Citro. Alfred graduated from Pompton Lakes High School Class of 1952. After high school, Alfred enlisted with the U.S. Army serving from 1952-1956 during the Korean War, he worked as a civilian contractor with the U.S. Strategic Air Command. After his time in the service Alfred worked for NASA, and later owned and operated B&D Enterprises, in Warren from 1974 to his retirement. Alfred married Sally R. Keneske on Sept 26^th, 1960, in California and they spent 62 wonderful years raising a family together.

Alfred was a member at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Warren. He loved garage sales, spending time with his family and friends, and had a love for cars especially Porsches.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Sally R. Citro; two children, Cary C. Citro of Warren, and Amy Lehman of Wayne, NJ; four grandchildren, Anthony Citro of Arlington, VA, Cecilia Citro of Warren, PA, Steffan Peterson and Sophia Peterson of Wayne, NJ.

In addition to his parents Alfred was preceded in death by his sister Marjorie “Babe” Citro.

Ronald Joseph Massa, 93, of Warren, PA, passed away on Saturday November 12, 2022, in the John and Orpha Blair Hospice House after a brief illness.

He was born in Warren, PA, on November 1, 1929, the son of the late Samuel and Alberta Pochey Massa. Ronald was a Warren area resident his entire life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean War. Ronald worked for Osram Sylvania and retired from the Warren State Hospital.

He is survived by his loving daughter Amy Adamski of Edinboro, PA; siblings, Dolores Grogan of Charlotte, NC, Toni Jo Loomis and husband Chuck of Warren, Sam Massa and wife Gayle of Warren, Michele Allen and husband Kevin of Irvine, Renee Sperry and husband Skip of Russell, Peter Massa and wife Laurie of Omaha, Nebraska, and Anne Rich and husband Martin of Jamestown, NY; two grandchildren, Samuel Adamski and Maggie Adamski; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Miller, and Joan Cornelius.

Daughter of: Philip J. and Lulu (Cook) Coyle, Bolivar, NY

Sr. John Francis entered the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany on February 2, 1945; was received into the Congregation on August 15, 1945; and professed her final vows on August 16, 1952. She joyfully lived the Mission and Charism of the Franciscan Sisters for over 77 years.

Phyllis attended elementary and high school in the Bolivar School System from 1928 – 1940. Following her high school graduation, she studied at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Buffalo, NY receiving her RN in Nursing in 1944. Sister pursued studies at Barry College, Miami, FL and Catholic University of America in Washington, DC where she received her BS in Nursing. She continued her education at Catholic University of America and received her Master’s in Administration in Nursing Education in 1958.

Her initial ministry was at St. Francis Hospital in Miami Beach, FL as Head Nurse for 13 years. In 1959, she became the Director of Nursing at St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in Brighton, MA. Five years later, she was transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital School of Nursing in Camden, NJ where she made her impact for 38 years, first as Director followed by the position as Dean. She was known as a firm but outstanding Nursing Director. Graduates from “Lourdes” had the reputation as excellent RN’s due to her commitment to her ministry.
In 2002, Sister retired to St. Elizabeth Convent, Tampa, FL, following a brief period of time caring for her ill sister, Theresa. She was an avid reader and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, so she took advantage of the free time that was now hers. One of her main delights was baking apple pies for the enjoyment of others.

Sr. John Francis is predeceased by her parents, Philip J and Lulu (Cook) Coyle; her brothers, John and Francis; and her sisters Lucille, Theresa and Agnes. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A wake service is scheduled for Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at 4:00 PM in the chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at 9:30 AM in the chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse. Burial will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.

Jeffrey John Blass, 65, of a longtime resident of Galeton, PA went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, November 11, 2022, in his home after a long illness.

Born on Friday, June 28, 1957 in Wellsboro, he was the eldest son of John J. and Janet Meholczo Blass.  He was married to Trixie Buck Blass for 42 years, who preceded him in death.

Jeff was a graduate of Galeton High School and was a 1992 graduate of Penn Tech with a degree in Human Services, having attained a 4.0 GPA and was the Class Valedictorian. 

He was employed for 18 years at the Northern Tier Children’s Home and had spent the balance of his 45 years working life as a heavy equipment operator, in the utilities field and in street maintenance.

Jeff had an excellent childhood growing up on the south side with his siblings and great lifelong neighbors on First and Second Streets of Galeton.  He especially cherished the lifelong friendships made in the bus gang, where Redwood Village now stands.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends his entire life.  He worked hard and played just as hard.

Surviving are three sons, John, Jake, and Josh; grandsons, Brantley and Jayse Blass; sister, Debra (John) Simonetti, niece, Breana Jo and grandnephew, Zander, all of West Pike; brother, Daniel (Louie) Blass of Mesa, Arizona and niece, Audrey and grandnephews, Oliver and Hayse of California; and sister, Sheila (Tanya) Blass of Ulysses.

Jeff was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Vicki.

 In keeping with Jeff’s wishes there will be no public visitation or funeral services.

Patricia Louise Van Cise, 89, of Warren, PA., died on Thursday November 10, 2022, in her home after an extended illness. 

She was born May 8, 1933, in Warren, PA. Patricia was the daughter of Edwin Miller and Vera Jean Hall Miller Holmberg.  She has been a lifelong Warren area resident and a 1951 graduate of Warren High School.  She had been employed with the former S.S. Kresge Company. 

She enjoyed cooking and baking, loved farming, canning, square dancing, roller skating, bicycle riding, horseback riding, and married her high school sweetheart.

She is survived by her 4 children – Steven Van Cise and wife, Pat of Russell, PA., James E. Van Cise and wife, Nancy Maze of Cheyenne, WY., Sherry Lynn Klark and husband, Michael and Susan L. Knapp and husband, Chanc all of Warren, PA. 8 grandchildren, Michael Rowan (Rhonda), Kelly Van Cise (Patty), Andrew Rowan (Julie), Carrie Zeigler (Kevin), Kristina Miles, April Chisholm (Mark), Brittany Reed (Kurtis), and Ben Hagberg; 11 great grandchildren, Brandon (Destiny), Abigail (Darin), Ashley (Steven), Matthew, Michael Jr., Camron, Alex, Jordan, Aiden, Micah, and Abel; four great grandchildren, Harper, Eloise, Alex, Jacob; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, William G. Van Cise whom she married November 18, 1951, at Calvary Baptist Church, Warren, PA., who died February 3, 2004; three sisters, Yvonne Lee, Phyllis Maze, and Claudia Holmberg

Ronald Joseph Massa, 93, of Warren, PA, passed away on Saturday November 12, 2022, in the John and Orpha Blair Hospice House after a brief illness.

He was born in Warren, PA, on November 1, 1929, the son of the late Samuel and Alberta Pochey Massa. Ronald was a Warren area resident his entire life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean War. Ronald retired from Osram Sylvania and worked in the Administrative Department.

He is survived by his loving daughter Amy Adamski of Edinboro, PA; siblings, Dolores Grogan of Charlotte, NC, Toni Jo Loomis and husband Chuck of Warren, Sam Massa and wife Gayle of Warren, Michele Allen and husband Kevin of Irvine, Renee Sperry and husband Skip of Russell, Peter Massa and wife Laurie of Omaha, Nebraska, and Anne Rich and husband Martin of Jamestown, NY; two grandchildren, Samuel Adamski and Maggie Adamski; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Miller, and Joan Cornelius.

SINNAMAHONING, Pa.—John S. Wilson, 87, a longtime resident of Sinnamahoning, PA passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2022, in UPMC Cole Place, Coudersport, after a long illness.

Born on Sunday, March 3, 1935 in Ickesburg, he was a son of Charles and Matilda Sweiger Wilson.  On July 26, 1979 in Emporium, he married Arveta R. “Cookie” Kepler, who survives.

John honorably served in the US Navy, serving at the Brooklyn Navy Yard where he chauffeured the  Senior Captain. He also served on a Naval survey ship, the San Pablo USS AGS 30. 

He was employed for many years at Bethlehem Steel Corporation until retiring due to injuries he received on the job in Steelton.

 In his younger years, John enjoyed hunting and fishing.  In his later years, he and his wife enjoyed watching eagles and song birds.Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 43 years; a daughter, Colleen Klepak of Miami, Florida; twin grandsons, Dimitri Klepak of Miami, Florida and Yanni Klepak of Tallahassee, Florida; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, including Bernie (Sandy) Kepler of Annville and Amy (Shawn) Zimmerman of Kersey; and a brother-in-law, Charles (Peg) Kepler. Jr. of Leesburg, Florida.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by six siblings.

Dianne E. McFall, 74, of King Street, Eldred, PA passed surrounded by her family on Thursday, (November 10, 2022) at the Olean General Hospital.

Born on October 6, 1948 she was the daughter of William K. and Rhea Bradford McCauley.

Diane was a 1966 graduate of Otto Eldred Schools.  She had worked for 15 years as a secretary for the First Presbyterian Church, and then Cutco- Vector Marketing.

Dianne loved to cook and bake with her great grandchildren, riding in her best friend Wayne Nolff’s convertible wearing her sun hat and glasses.  She also enjoyed the time she spent on the bowling league, teaching swim classes at the Bradford YMCA, and her poker nights with her close friends.  Dianne loved all the Holidays, even the smallest she would decorate her whole house for them all. She enjoyed Sunday Fundays with her whole family and especially she had a love for everyone that was unmeasurable.

Surviving is one Son; Mik (Beth Dunson) Foster of Phoenix, Az., one Daughter; Crystal (Robert) Harris of Eldred, one Step Son; Brandon McFall of Port Allegany, one Sister; Pat (Don) Tyler of Coryville, three Grand Children; Antrika (Ricky) Camejo of Bradford, Michael (Haylee Hathaway) Updegrove of Bradford, and Zoe Updegrove of Bradford, three Great Grand Children; Maya Hathaway, Amani and Avari Camejo.

She was preceded in death by one Great Grandson Deandre Brooks and her parents.

Robert W. “Bob” Brewer, 91, of Shinglehouse, PA passed away with his loving family by his side on Thursday, November 10, 2022, in UPMC Cole, Coudersport, after a long illness.

Born on Tuesday, April 21, 1931 in Wyalusing, he was a son of Robert J. and Sarah L. Foster Brewer.  On April 24, 1948 in Portville, N.Y., he married Laura M. McKeel, who passed away on January 31, 2009.

Bob was employed at the former Dresser-Rand in Olean, N.Y., first as a machinist and later as an inspector.  He retired after 42 years of service.

He enjoyed fishing and wintering in Florida with his wife, Laura.  His greatest love was his family.

Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Susan A. (Victor) Safford of Port Allegany and Terri M. VanWhy of Shinglehouse; a son, Robert A. (Maureen) Brewer of Bolivar, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter;  a sister, Sue (Don) Faulkner; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was predeceased by a son, Steven Brewer; four grandchildren, Valorie S. Safford, Victor R. Safford, Chad M. Brewer, and Steven William Brewer; and four siblings, Francis “Bud” Brewer, Anne Ferris, Barbara Stevens, and Marie Woodward.

Thomas L. Brown, 81, of Route 446, Eldred, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, (November 10, 2022) at the Olean General Hospital.

Born on July 16, 1941 he was the son of Julius and Dorothy Trask Brown.  On February 13, 1965 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, he married Joan Welch, who survives.

Thomas was a 1961 graduate of Otto Eldred School, and then went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force. He was formerly employed by Quaker State prior to becoming disabled. 

He enjoyed hunting, his local High School Sports, camping, his jeep and most recently helping out, and working with his grandson at DB Cattle Company in Eldred.

Surviving are two sons; Steve (Vicki) Brown of Eldred, and Matthew (Shannon) Brown of Eldred, One daughter; Rene Smith of Eldred, One brother; Joe Brown of Eldred, 6 grandchildren; Deric (Marklyn) Brown of Smethport, Jordan Brown of Eldred, Katelyn Brown of Eldred, Ashley Brown of Olean, NY., Kylee Gross of Erie, PA., Zander Smith of Cheyenne, WY., and one great grandson Rhett Farrell.

Preceding him in death are two brothers; Manley and Charles Brown, two Sisters; Jane North and Donna Brown.

Carl J. DeStefano, 90, of Warren PA, died on Wednesday November 9, 2022, at Northern Lakes Nursing and Rehab Center, Angola, Indiana, where he was since his prolonged illness.

Carl was born on March 22, 1932, in Warren, PA, the son of the late Samuel and Lena Guiffre DeStefano. He graduated from Warren Area High School. Carl was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War. He was a life member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Warren. Carl retired from Osram Sylvania as a mold maker, with over 30 years of service and took great pride in his work. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He married Mary Joan Nordstrom on September 10, 1955, in St. Joseph R.C. Church, they spent 53 loving years together before she passed in 2008.

Carl is survived by his children, David DeStefano and wife, Lisa of Angola, Indiana, D’ Ann Main and husband, Jeffrey of Warren, PA; grandchildren, Mike DeStefano, Samuel DeStefano, Bryan Hossman, Casey Main, Jeremy Main, Daniel DeStefano II, and Andrea DeStefano; great grandchildren, Nathan, Ashlynn, Brantley, and Matthew.

In addition to his parents, and wife, Carl was preceded in death by his oldest son, Daniel J. DeStefano.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday November 16, 2022, at 1:00 pm in St. Joseph R.C. Church, 600 Pennsylvania Ave. West, Warren PA, with the Rev. Richard Tomasone, pastor, officiating. Hudnell W. Caldwell, Jr., 88, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Cleveland, TN with family by his side on Friday, November 4, 2022. He was born January 28, 1934 in Johnsonburg, PA, a son of the late Hudnell Sr. and Daisy Delong. On April 23, 1955 he married the “love of his life” – Shirley Dagustine who preceded him in death August 29, 2019.

Hud graduated from Johnsonburg High School with the Class of 1952. He later went on to work as a self-employed contractor throughout the Elk County Area. Throughout his years he was actively involved in his community serving on the Johnsonburg School Board, Johnsonburg Borough Council, where he also served a term as Council President, and Johnsonburg Water Authority. He was also an active member of the Johnsonburg United Methodist Church, Johnsonburg Elks Club, Wilcox Sportsmen and Wilcox Legion.

One of his passions was his membership as a Mason in the James W. Brown Lodge 675. He became a Master Mason on January 14, 1957 and went on to serve as Worshipful Master several times over the years. In 2017 he proudly received his 60 year pin for masonic service. He also was a member of Shriner’s International where he held a lifetime membership with the Zem Zem Shriners of Erie, PA.

Hud is survived by three children, Lori, Mrs. Paul Ingraham of Cleveland, TN; Hudnell Caldwell, III, and wife Denise of Scottdale, PA; and Troy Caldwell and wife Kerrianne of Pleasanton, CA; ten grandchildren, Zachary Ingraham (wife Megan), Jordan Ingraham (wife Alisha), Eric Ingraham, Sara Kaczynski (husband Michael), Samantha Dvorchak (husband Luke), Bethany Ebert (husband Brian), Hudnell Caldwell IV (wife Christina), Taylor Caldwell, Nicholas Caldwell, and Grace Caldwell; two great grandchildren, Wesley Kaczynski and Chase Dvorchak; a brother Mark Caldwell of Rantoul, IL, and two sisters, Dawn Rovnak of Fort Collins, CO, and Thyra Caldwell of Littleton, CO.

He was proceeded in death by sisters; Margie Rogers, Anna Mae Lorigan and Emma Lou Piccirillo and brother Alfred Caldwell.

Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church, 5 Clarion Rd, Johnsonburg, PA on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place at the Holy Rosary Cemetery.

Joy E. Blauser, 83, of Ridgway, PA died on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at Penn Highlands Elk following a lengthy illness.

She was born on October 13, 1939, in Driftwood, a daughter of the late Carl and Evangeline Coudriet Johnson.

Joy loved spending her days reading, doing crossword puzzles, and crocheting.  Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren, whom she adored.

She is survived by one son; Victor Blauser and his wife Christine of Ridgway, and by 2 grandchildren: Dustin and Michaela Blauser of Ridgway.

Sandra L. “Sandy” (Mallory) Colegrove, age 83, of Wellsboro, PA, formerly of Altoona, PA, died on Wednesday, November 9, 2022. 

She was born on November 19, 1938 in Elmira, NY a daughter of the late Herbert and Dorothy (Woodworth) Mallory. 

Sandy graduated from Troy High School and Elizabethtown College and attended St. Therese Catholic Church, Altoona, PA. 

She was retired from Sears Department Store, enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, and was a Girl Scout Leader and 4 H Leader for many years.  She participated in the Foster Grandparent Program at St. Therese Catholic School for many years where she was known as Grandma Sandy. 

She is survived by a son: Chuck (Laurie) Colegrove of Little River, SC, two daughters: Mary (Ron) Minnick of Wellsboro, PA, Martha (Steven) Smith of Ephrata, PA, brother: Herbert (Lucille) Mallory of Marion, PA, grandchildren: Laurelin (Joseph) Accardo, Abby (Tyler) Welty, Nick (Alisa) Little, Mallory Colegrove, Gabby Colegrove, and two great grandchildren: Rowan Accardo, Avah Little.
