Smethport – Gloria A. Galentine, 72, of Turtlepoint, PA passed away unexpectedly, Friday (February 2, 2024) at Bradford Regional Medical Center, Bradford.

She was born July 30, 1951 in Port Allegany, the daughter of Alfred and Artie (Bells) Cochran. On October 26, 1968, Smethport, she married Robert R. Galentine, who survives.

Gloria worked at Sheetz for several years, then at Carlson’s Store in Turtlepoint, and lastly at Northern Tier Headstart as an aide.

She was a member of the Port Allegany Moose Lodge #460, was an auxiliary member of the Port Allegany Legion, and a member of the Birchgrove Mennonite Church.  She was proud of being a grandmother and great-grandmother, as her family was her whole world to her.

Richard D. Stewart III:  Loving Husband, Father, and Son

Richard D. Stewart III, 47, of Maple Grove Road, Friendship, NY passed way Friday, February 2, 2024 at home.

Born on May 8, 1976, in Corning, he was a son of Richard D. Stewart, II and Anita Hoad Parulski.  On May 10, 1997, in Bath, he married the former Cristin M. McKenna who survives. 

Rich was a graduate of Haverling High School Class of 1994.  He later graduated from Houghton College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology.

He started working for Friendship Dairies over twenty years ago, and continued on as a Regional Quality Manager for Saputo Cheese USA, Inc.

Rich enjoyed raising horses, cows, goats, and chickens with his wife and daughters.  He also enjoyed volunteering with the 4-H program and gardening.  Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, they were the center of his world.

He had served on the Friendship Central School Board of Education and had attended the Cuba First Baptist Church.

George L. Lewis, 76, of Emporium, PA passed away at Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium, PA on Monday morning (January 22, 2024) following a lengthy illness. He was born April 8, 1947 in St. Marys, PA a son of the late Lawrence and Mary Hornung Lewis.

George graduated from Cameron County High School and served with the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed trapping and being with his family.

Bernard (Ben) C. Krieg, Sr., 68, of Grand Valley, PA formerly of Emporium, PA died Monday, January 29, 2024 due to an extended illness at Hamot Hospital surrounded by loved ones. He was born July 30, 1955 in Emporium, PA.

Ben graduated from Cameron County High School in 1973. He retired from the Emporium Borough after 30 years of service. He worked 15 years with the Pennsylvania Game Commission. Ben also worked for various heavy equipment companies in Virginia and North Carolina. Ben enjoyed hunting with his sons and camping with his wife and grandchildren.

Joann Elenor Harpster, 94, of Emporium, PA passed away at her residence on Sunday morning (February 4, 2024). She was born January 2, 1930 in Emporium, PA a daughter of the late Charles A. and Wilda Ingersoll Schwab Sr. On November 17, 1957 in First Presbyterian Church, Emporium she married Arthur Harpster, who survives.

Joann graduated from Cameron County High School in the class of 1948. She worked at Sylvania before attending Pan-Am airline stewardess school. She then moved to Springfield, VA in 1960, where she worked on the Council at the Pentagon representing men and women in the armed forces, until her retirement in 1987. Upon her return back to Emporium she was involved in Cancer Society, Little Museum and the bloodmobile.

Vincent F. Kronenwetter, 83, of St. Marys, PA died on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Pinecrest Nursing Home.

Thomas Anderson, 60, of Kersey, PA died on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at his residence.

William Edward Douglass, 90, of 81 Main Street, Bradford, PA passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at his residence.

Born December 15, 1933, in Sunderland, England, he was a son of the late William E. and Doris (Bell) Douglass.

William was a graduate of Castletown School, and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where he earned a degree in Human Resource Management.

He was a coal miner, at the Hylton (Castletown) Colliery in England, and later was employed by Corning Glass in England until 1966, then transfered to Wilimgton, NC, he moved to Bradford in 1971, and worked as the Human Resource Manager for Corning Glass, then Pascagoula, MS, until 1983. He went to work for Southwest Airlines as a Safety Engineer, and he retired again. In his retirement he worked for 10 years at the Las Colinas Country Club in Irving, TX until 2013. Then he returned to Bradford.

William was an avid golfer. He was a life member of the Las Colinas Country Club, where helped run the golf tournaments for the LPGA. He was a Third Degree Knight, and member of the Knights of Columbus Council 403, and the Pennhills Club. 

Lucille A. “Cookie” Alloe, 90, of Emporium, PA passed away at Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, PA on Friday afternoon (February 2, 2024). She was born June 18, 1933 in Hurley, Wisconsin a daughter of the late Alphonso and Genevieve Bruni. In 1954 in Emporium she married the late Michael Alloe.

Cookie had worked at the former Homestead and Crescent Hotels for several years. She was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church.

Timothy J. WHITE, 62, of Mansfield, PA, formerly of New Holland and Harrison Valley, died Wednesday, January 31, 2024 in Hershey Medical Center.  

Born May 9, 1961, in Coudersport, he was the son of Thomas G. White and Shirley Dunham White Davis.  

A 1979 graduate of Northern Potter High School, he was employed by WW Disposal and owned and operated T. White Trucking for over 20 years, retiring in 2018.  

Surviving are: his mother and step-father, Shirley and Bill Davis of Ellisburg; five brothers, Thomas G. White, II of Westfield, Todd L. (Pamela) White of Harrison Valley, Theodore J. (Brandi) White of Harrison Valley, Benjamin White of Wellsboro, and his other brother, Rick (Ann) Teller of Harrison Valley; two sisters, Tamela Rae (Raymond) Barrow of The Villages, FL and Whitney (Michael) Andreula of Jackson, NJ; two step-sisters, Debbie (Kevin) Miller of Coudersport and Dawn (Joe) Correll of Clinton, WI;  two aunts, Geraldine Bassney of Tioga and Ruth Peters of Corning, NY; an uncle, Leon Dunham of Westfield; nieces, nephews, and cousins.  

He was predeceased by his father.  

Friends may call Tuesday, February 6, 2024 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 PM at OLNEY-FOUST Funeral Homes & Crematory, Ulysses, PA.  

Funeral Services will be held on 11:00 AM, Wednesday in the Harrison Valley Alliance Church.  Rev. Kevin Cornish, Pastor, will officiate.  Burial will be in Whites Corners Cemetery.

Marguerite J. “Susie” HALLADAY, 80, of Wellsville, NY, died Thursday, February 1, 2024 in Jones Memorial Hospital. 

Born February 25, 1943, in Wellsville, she was the daughter of Paul M. and Louise A. Tait Cole.  On February 1, 1959, in Oswayo, PA, she married Maxwell E. “Max” Halladay, who predeceased her on January 11, 2018.

Louise E. KEMP, 91, of Charleston, WV, died Tuesday, January 30, 2024 in English Meadows, Scott Depot, WV.  

Born April 11, 1932, in Potter Brook, PA, she was the daughter of Kenneth C. and Lottie V. Thompson Abbott.  On July 19, 1952, in Potter Brook, PA, she married Shirland D. Kemp, who predeceased her on April 21, 2022.  

A graduate of Westfield High School and Hornell Business School, she was employed by Sylvania, Galeton Production, Valley Grove Elementary School Library, and P.S.I. in Georgia.  

Sylvia P. BUCK, 92, of Ulysses, PA, died Friday, January 26, 2024 in UPMC Cole, Coudersport.  

Born January 12, 1932, in Wellsville, NY, she was the daughter of Louis D. and Splendina Capriotti Peangatelli.  

She was a 1950 graduate of Genesee High School.  On July 19, 1950, in Genesee, she married Raymond E. Buck, who predeceased her on July 18, 2022.  

Sylvia and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm in Ulysses for many years.  She attended the Galeton First Baptist Church.  

Ronald D. Nelson

COUDERSPORT, PA—Ronald D. Nelson, 82, a lifelong resident of Coudersport, died February 2, 2024, with his loving family by his side in UPMC Cole, Coudersport.

He was born September 2, 1941, in Coudersport, the son of Arnold and Antoinette “Tillie” Walaski Nelson.

Ron proudly graduated from the Coudersport High School, Class of 1959 and attended Williamsport Technical Institute and served NFG as a Corrosion Specialist. After his retirement, he landed his dream job at Coolridge Potato Farm.

He married fellow classmate, Kristine Fisher. They celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage and made many memories at Red Pine. They have three daughters, Lori (Gregory) Sevinsky of Lisbon, NH, Teri (Brent) Beacker of Coudersport and Aimee (Arnold) Wykoff of Kunkletown, PA; five grandchildren, Regan (Pete) Sevinsky, Tara (Nick) Gregsak, Skyler (Tim) Gaberseck, Logan (Amber) Marshall and Alexis (Brock) Wilson; 6 great grandchildren, Tye, Brynn, Joseph, Kane, Garrett, Anna and two precious ones on the way.

Throughout his life he cherished his family above all else, starting with his mother Tillie, sisters Beverly Coppersmith and Ruth Hults (deceased) and brother Arnold Nelson, along with several nieces and nephews.

Ron was a loyal member of the Knights of Columbus where he earned his 4th Degree. He was involved with the Coudersport Jaycees, St. Eulalia Yardbirds, and he lived by the motto of serving others. He was an avid Coudersport Falcon sports fan, fisherman, hunter, golfer and outdoorsman. He was also well known for his canning, pickling and jerky making.

COUDERSPORT, PA—Ronald D. Nelson, 82, a lifelong resident of Coudersport, PA passed away with his loving family by his side on Friday, February 2, 2024, in UPMC Cole, Coudersport.

To pay respects to Ron and his family, friends may call from 10am to 11am on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at the gathering space of St. Eulalia Catholic Church, Coudersport.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am in the church on Tuesday with the Rev. Christopher Wheeler, pastor, as celebrant.

Gloria A. Galentine, 72, of Turtlepoint, passed away unexpectedly Friday (February 2, 2024) at Bradford Regional Medical Center, Bradford.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 6, from 11AM-1PM, at the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, where funeral and committal services will begin at 1 PM following visitation.  Burial will be in Annin Creek Cemetery.

Keith E. Allison, 62, of Bradford, PA formerly of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at the Pavilion at BRMC.

He was born on August 25, 1961 in Indianapolis, a son of Wilber and Madelin Blue Allison of Indianapolis.

He was a 1979 graduate of the Ben Davis High School, Indianapolis.

On June 15, 2019 in Bradford, he married Colleen C. McDonald who survives.

He was a member of the local Eagles club.  He was an avid fisherman and NASCAR fan.  He loved to cook and smoke food for his friends and family as well as spending time at the “A Frame Camp” at Cataract Lake, Poland, IN.

After moving to the Bradford area; he worked at Bradford Forest Products up until he had to leave due to his illness.

Kenneth W. Wieder               “beloved father, faithful servant of the Lord”

SHINGLEHOUSE, PA—Kenneth W. Wieder, 89, of Shinglehouse, formerly of Perkasie, went to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, February 1, 2024, in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, after a long illness.

Born on Monday, December 3, 1934 in Lenark, he was a son of William H. and Pauline Lapp Wieder.  On April 23, 1960, he married Kay F. Lesh, who went to be with the Lord on June 24, 2016.

Ken was a graduate of Allentown (PA) High School.  He honorably served in the US Air Force.  He was employed at the former Hysol Company in Olean, NY.

He was a member of Grace Bible Independent Baptist Church in Shinglehouse, where he was active in the Seedline Scripture Ministries program. A gifted singer, Ken sang in the church choir.  He was faithful in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.  His favorite verse was Ephesians 2: 8,9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast”.

William M. Peterson, 82, of Greeves St., Kane, PA passed away Wednesday morning (Jan. 31) in the Lutheran Home at Kane.  Born April 19, 1941 in Kane, he is the son of the late Ed and Cora (Detwiler) Peterson.  On June 13, 1963, in Kane, he married Juanita “Nita” Clawges, who preceded him in death on July 26, 2021.

Bill was a 1959 graduate of Kane High School and a 1963 graduate of Alfred State College, where he received a degree in Soil Conservation.  He joined the Army after college graduation and served six months in active duty and six years in the National Guard.  He retired from the U.S. Forest Service after a long career as a forester.

He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, his beagles and his family.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren.  Bill was a kind man with a gentle soul.  He always had a listening ear.

ROULETTE, Pa. — William D. “Bill” Osborne, 77, of Hester Avenue, Roulette, PA passed away on Sunday (January 28, 2024) at UPMC Williamsport following a brief illness.

Born on September 21st, 1946 in Olean, he was the son of Ennis L. and Fanny I. (Shelley) Osborne. On April 27, 1968 in El Paso, TX., he married Bonnie S. Lawrie who survives.

Bill was a 1965 graduate of Otto-Eldred High School. He was a veteran having served with the US Army during the Vietnam War.

After his service he was employed at Pittsburg -Corning in Port Allegany for a few years prior to getting a job at AVX in Olean Where he spent sixteen years prior to finishing his career at GKN in Emporium, from where he retired.

He was a member of the Roulette Rod and Gun Club and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and getting his grandchildren out of trouble.

Surviving, including his wife, are two sons; Edward A. Osborne of V.A., John N.E. (Contessa) Osborne, one daughter; Billie J. (Rob) Good of Duke Center, one brother; James C. Osborne, two sisters; Mary Ellen Haynes of Eldred, Virginia McAnallen of N.C., nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death is one sister Barbara Osborne, and one brother Chester “Chet” Osborne.

A celebration of Life will be held at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred on Friday, February 9th, 2024 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, at which time services will be held.

Donald E. Mitten, 77, of Coudersport, PA passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at UPMC Cole. 

He was born July 9, 1946, in Wilmington, DE, to Norman and Miriam (Griswold) Mitten.  In 1982, he married Diama Ferguson, with whom he shared 42 years of marriage. 

Donald worked as a plumber and drove school bus.  He was a life member of the Italian American Club in Kennett Square, PA, a member of American Legion Post 192 in Coudersport, VFW 78 in Austin and the Moose International.  He enjoyed working on engines, and especially enjoyed maintaining his 1964 Grand Prix. 

Kenneth W. Wieder               “beloved father, faithful servant of the Lord”

Kenneth W. Wieder, 89, of Shinglehouse, formerly of Perkasie, went to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, February 1, 2024, in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, after a long illness.

Linda M. Rix  Beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Sister

Linda M. Rix, 77, of 4277 Townline Road, Hinsdale, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Cuba Memorial Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit after a lengthy illness.

Born on December 30, 1946, in Wellsville, she was a daughter of Donald and Nellie Hinkley Edwards.  On June 17, 1967, in Our Lady of Angels Church, she married Carlisle S. Rix, Jr. who predeceased her on December 2, 2011. 

Linda was a graduate of Belfast Central School.

She was a homemaker and house cleaner for many years, and occasionally subbed at the Cuba Rushford cafeteria.  She also owned and operated their dairy farm with her husband. 

Linda was a member of Our Lady of Angels Church in Cuba and the Allegheny Mountain Engine & Implement Association.  She loved when her family would gather for holidays and special occasions when all would be together as well as spending time with her grandchildren; one of her greatest joys.  Her favorite holiday was Easter when the Rix family would gather for a reunion and Easter Egg hunt for all the kids. 

Sharon R. Bradley               “beloved mother and grandmother”

Sharon R. Bradley, 83, of Shinglehouse, formerly of Coudersport, passed away in her home with her loving family by her side on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, after a long illness.

Born on Thursday, March 28, 1940 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was a daughter of Charles and Carolyn Bennet Dunn.  On September 19, 1959 in Niagara Falls, she married Robert C. “Bob” Bradley, who passed away on October 18, 2006.

Sharon was a graduate of LaSalle High School in Niagara Falls.  She later graduated from BOCES in Olean, NY, as a Registered Nurse.

She was employed by the former St. Francis Hospital in Olean and later was employed by the Oswayo Valley School District, Shinglehouse, in the cafeterias.  Sharon and her husband owned and operated the former Northwoods Tavern in Coudersport for several years.

A faithful woman, Sharon read her Bible daily.  She was a member of Obi Community Church in Obi, NY.  She was a former member of Eulalia Chapter #148 OES in Coudersport and a former member of Eureka Chapter #52 OES in Shinglehouse. She enjoyed bowling, playing Skipbo, and playing Candy Crush on her iPad.  She was an avid reader.  Her greatest love was her family.

William Edward Douglass, 90, of 81 Main Street, Bradford, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at his residence.

Tammy Lynn (Fuller) Miller, 56, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, of Derrick Road, Bradford, passed away on Tuesday January 30, 2024, at Olean General Hospital.

Born August 23, 1967, in Bradford, she was a daughter of the late Alberta (Jackson) Buchanan and Ivan Buchanan. 

Tammy was a woman of remarkable characteristics. She had a heart that overflowed with love and compassion, always ensuring that those she cared for never left her house hungry. Her nurturing nature touched the lives of many, and her generosity knew no bounds. She was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her loved ones forever. Though we mourn her loss, we find solace in the beautiful memories she left behind. May she rest in eternal peace.

Gregory G. Patterson, 57, of Bradford, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at the Olean General Hospital.

Born on May 6, 1966, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Theodore E. and Evelyn L. (Masters) Patterson.

He was a 1984 graduate of Bradford Area High School.

Greg worked as a hefter for Case Cutlery and later in the maintenance department. He enjoyed tinkering with small engine repair, camping, and playing washerboard. He was always there to lend a helping hand. His pride and joy was spending time with his daughters and grandkids.

Surviving are two daughters, Phylicia (Paul Wallace) Patterson, of Portville NY, and Kayla (Desmond) White, of Olean NY, one sister, Lisa (Kevin) Harbaugh, of Bradford, one brother, Tom (Gail) Patterson, of Sebring FL, two sister in-laws, Tammy Patterson, and Penny Haynoski, three grandchildren, Max Wallace, Mazey Wallace, and Vadek White, and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Louise Strutt, 85, of Smethport, PA passed away Tuesday (January 30, 2024) at the Bradford Ecumenical Home.

She was born July 15, 1938 in Grampian, PA, the daughter of  Robert and Katherine Denver Crandell. She was married to Fred M. “Red” Strutt, who died on May 10, 2022.

Louise was a graduate of Otto-Eldred High School.  She shared many wonderful years working alongside her family at Lindgren’s Variety Store in Smethport.

She attended Hilltop Baptist Church. Louise was very caring and loving and spent most of her time taking care of her family over the years.

Betty “Dee” Jean Brock Hardes, 78, of Issaquah, Washington, formerly of Port Allegany, PA, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2024 after an extended illness.

Dee was born on November 16, 1945 in Buffalo, NY to Ronald Brock and Ruth Scott Brock, and grew up on Crandall Hill in Potter County, PA. Dee attended Coudersport High School then earned a Bachelor of Science in Library Science and English Education along with her Master of Science in Library Science from Clarion University.

Dee served as a Research Librarian at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY, then spent 38 years as the school librarian at Smethport Area High School in Smethport, PA before retiring in 2003.

Winter Haven, FL.- Wayne Alan Stephen of Wellsville, NY passed away in his home in Winter Haven, FL., on Friday (January 26, 2024) after a long battle with cancer.

Wayne was born August 16, 1960, in Olean, he was the son of the late William N. and Norma (Joan) “Brundage” Stephen. On December 29, 1984, he married the former Lisa Moffatt in Bradford, PA.

Wayne graduated from Portville Central School; he was a member of the “legendary class of 1979”. In 1980, he started the Wayne Companies on a $500 loan. His companies employing nearly 1,000 people through the years. His company, now a corporation providing asphalt, gravel and concrete services, serving NY, PA, Florida and various jobs throughout the USA. The company and the legacy Wayne started will be carried on by his family.

Wayne always said he had no hobbies, but he loved spending time with friends and family. Wayne was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, numerous community clubs and several construction organizations. Wayne was most known for his quick wit, love of life, sparkling blue eyes, and his stand-alone strength and leadership. He also knew wherever he stood, he would be supported by his roots, his team, his family and life partner in business and life, Lisa.
