As our busy practice continues to grow, we are seeking a Medical Assistant or LPN for 35-37.5 hours/week in our Roulette and St. Mary’s locations.  Candidate must be willing to travel to both offices.  Competitive compensation, with performance incentives, and paid holidays.  This position is primarily clinical, however, will be cross-trained to cover front office duties.  Must have a valid MA certificate or LPN license or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire.  Must have proficient computer skills, experience with Medent is a plus.  Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills are necessary as is the ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities.  Willing to train the right applicant.  Valid driver’s license is required.

Majority Leader Bryan Cutler Issues Lawful Writs of Election

After being sworn-in to office Monday with an undeniable 101-99 Republican majority in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Republican Leader Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) issued lawful writs of election for the 34th and 35th House Districts on Thursday.

“With the authority of a clear and undeniable majority in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, and backed up by prior House precedent, Pennsylvania statute and the prior decisions of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, I am issuing these lawful writs of election to finally provide electoral certainty for the people of Allegheny County who are currently lacking representation in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives,” Cutler said.

“It is unfortunate we had to arrive at this conclusion today, but the illegitimate and illegal writs of election issued last week by the leader of the minority party in the House, with the cooperation of the Pennsylvania Department of State, forced this continued action and the ongoing litigation over those writs. This is what happens when Democrats continue to redefine terms to fit their singular belief of what is right and show their true nature as pure partisans, instead of as rational stewards of our shared institutions.”

Under these valid writs of election, the two special elections will be held on May 16, 2023.

“Holding these special elections on the date of the 2023 primary election will save Allegheny County money by not requiring the duplication of resources and election expenses and will allow plenty of time for the county to prepare for mail-in and absentee ballots,” Cutler said.

Candidates for the office will be selected by a process designated by their respective political parties, and the winner of the special election will take office after the results are confirmed.

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised of a lane restriction on Route 15 northbound in Covington Township, Tioga County, due to a tractor trailer crash.

Motorists can expect the right (driving) lane to be restricted north of Blossburg.

PennDOT Reduces Speed Limits on Several Area Roadways

Montoursville, PA – Due to the severity of the winter storm, PennDOT is temporarily reducing the speed limit on several roadways in the region. 

PennDOT is urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel but those who must head out will see speeds reduced to 45 mph on the following highways:   

  • Interstate 180 the entire length 
  • Interstate 80 from the Route 38 interchange in Venango County to I-81 in Luzerne County
  • Route 220 from I-80 in Clinton County to I-180 in Lycoming County

On roadways with speed restrictions, commercial vehicles not affected by restrictions on these or other roadways must move to the right lane. 

Although PennDOT crews have been treating roadways, the department’s primary goal is to keep roads passable, not completely free of ice and snow. PennDOT will continue to treat roadways throughout the storm until precipitation stops and roads are clear. 

While PennDOT recommends not traveling during winter storms, motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, including color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles, by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. 

Multi-Vehicle Crash Closes Interstate 80 WB in Northumberland and Union Counties

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that both lanes of Interstate 80 westbound are closed between mile marker 212 (Interstate 180 interchange / Williamsport) in Northumberland County and mile marker 178 (Route 220 interchange) in Clinton County, due to a multi-vehicle crash in Clinton County near mile marker 182.

A detour using Interstate 180 and Route 220 is in place. The roadway is expected to be closed for several hours. Motorists should expect delays in travel.

McKean County Businesses & Municipalities To Get $1.5 Million in Grants

The McKean County Commissioners, at their December 13 bi-monthly meeting, approved grant awards for McKean County Small Businesses and Municipalities utilizing over $1.5 million dollars of the County’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) allocation.

“We are pleased that we can assist small businesses and our municipalities with funds in this time of economic recovery and stabilization.” Said Commissioner Tom Kreiner. “McKean County is pleased to offer financial resources to support projects that address the needs of our local communities.”

The McKean County Small Business Recovery Grants and the Municipal Recovery Grants provide a one-time infusion of financial resources to meet pandemic recovery needs and, moving forward, to rebuild the county economy.

A total of $130,000 has been awarded to sixteen McKean County small businesses. Grant amounts range in size from $5,000 to $10,000.  “The focus of the small business recovery grant program is not merely providing funds to businesses for revenue loss or to cover regular operating costs, but to invest in projects that can demonstrate measurable, sustainable, collaborative, and lasting improvements”, added Commissioner Carol Duffy. “Most impressive is that the business owners who were awarded grants will be investing an additional $314,463 into the selected projects.”

Utopia Foods Recalls “Enoki Mushrooms” Because of Possible Health Risk

Utopia Foods Inc of Glendale, NY, is recalling its 200g packages of “Enoki Mushrooms”, imported from China and distributed nationwide in the US, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The recalled “Enoki Mushrooms” were distributed nationwide in produce wholesale companies.

The product comes in a 200g, clear and blue plastic package with brand name “Utopia” and barcode# 8928918610017 marked on the packaging.

Voluntary Recall of Three Detect Covid-19 Test Lots

Detect, Inc. is voluntarily recalling specific lots of the Detect Covid-19 Test™, our molecular, over-the-counter test used to identify SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes Covid-19) in self-collected nasal swabs. The recall affects a total of 11,102 tests shipped to customers from July 26th, 2022 through August 26th, 2022. The test was granted Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on October 28, 2021.

There is an increased chance that the tests from the lot numbers listed below may give false negative results. Detect has conducted a thorough investigation to identify this issue and has made the decision to conduct a voluntary recall for these lots. To date, Detect has not received any reports of false negative results related to the affected lots and is issuing this recall out of an abundance of caution. The reliability of positive test results is not affected.

ByHeart Issues Voluntary Recall of Five Batches of Its Infant Formula Because of Possible Health Risk

ByHeart, a next-generation baby nutrition company, announced today that, out of an abundance of caution, it has chosen to voluntarily recall five batches of ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula due to the potential for cross-contamination with Cronobacter sakazakii. No distributed ByHeart product has tested positive for the bacteria.

The product being recalled is ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula, Milk Based Powder with Iron for 0-12 Months in 24 oz containers. The formula under voluntary recall was distributed directly to consumers in the U.S. and can be identified by the number on the bottom of the can. Two Inmates Busted For Taking Drugs Into McKean County Jail

(SMETHPORT, Pennsylvania):  District Attorney Stephanie L. Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that two separate inmates have been charged with taking controlled substances into the McKean County Jail following their sentencings on unrelated charges.

By two separate criminal complaints filed on December 13, 2022, County Detective Linda Close has charged Francis Kramer with 1 count of Contraband (Felony 2) and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Misdemeanor).  Detective Close has also charged Jose Robinson with 1 count of Contraband and Possession of a Controlled Substance.                                         

KRAMER appeared before the Honorable Christopher G. Hauser for a sentencing hearing on November 23, 2022 for charges including Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  The Judge ordered him to appear at the McKean County Jail on November 25, 2022 to commence his sentencing. The criminal complaint alleges that he was placed in a “dry” cell following his processing at the jail and, three days later, a controlled substance was found in a plastic baggie. 

ROBINSON was sentenced by the Honorable John H. Pavlock on December 1, 2022 on unrelated drug charges and was taken to the jail that same day following his sentence.  The criminal complaint alleges that he brought contraband in the form of a controlled substance when he came into the jail.

Both KRAMER and ROBINSON were arraigned by Magisterial District Judge William Todd who set bail at $10,000 and scheduled their central court/preliminary hearings for December 22, 2022.

UPMC Primary Care, Specialty Care, and Express Care Offices in Coudersport Region Closing for the Holidays

COUDERSPORT, Pa., Dec. 14, 2022 – In recognition of the holidays, UPMC Primary Care, UPMC Specialty Care, and UPMC Express Care facilities in Coudersport, Bradford, Eldred, Emporium, Port Allegany, Shinglehouse, Smethport, Ulysses, and Westfield will be closed on Monday, Dec. 26, and Monday, Jan. 2.

All clinics will resume normal operations Tuesday, Dec. 27, and Tuesday, Jan. 3. Patients are advised to plan accordingly and reach out to their provider’s office with any questions.

Acting 101: Learn the Fundamentals of Acting

Calling all thespians! So you’ve never acted before but would love to? Come learn the essential skills needed to be on the stage. Even if you are not a novice, this is an excellent opportunity to refresh those skills and maybe learn something new to add to your repertoire, such as improvisation or different techniques. The local theatrical group, Potter-McKean Players, has plans to offer productions in the upcoming months. This course will teach you what you need to be ready for those auditions.

This 4-part course will be taught by local director Paul Herzig and actor Jared Empson, of Eliot Ness Fest fame. The classes will take place on Tuesdays, January 10 – January 31, 2023 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Education Council’s Coudersport office. The cost of the course is $25 per person.
