Thank You From The Chapin Family in Turtlepoint, PA
I’m sorry it took so long to let everyone know how grateful we are for all the prayers and help that everyone has shown us. How can we ever thank you for all the kindness you have given to us during our time of need.
During the time the fire was engulfing our house Randi Causer came up to see if we were all right. She later told me that when she was leaving, the song, “10,000 Angels” was playing on the car radio and the Lord did send us 10,000 angels. The churches, my postal family and all of you were our angels.
When our son Tom went to see if anything was left, he found our family bible still there. Of course, it was in four pieces, but it was opened to a picture of Jesus with his arms outstretched.
You’ve been a godsend to us and we are blessed to know everyone. I wish we could write all that’s in our hearts. For when I think of all the people that helped and all the prayers that were sent, I can only thank the Lord for the love he has sent to us with/in you.
You have given us hope and shown us how many of God’s children there are. How much this town and everyone else has done for us we’ll never be able to thank you enough. Now that we can see at least a small light at the end of the tunnel, we know that it was only possible through everyone’s kindness and prayers. Our family has been blessed by all of you and we pray to the Lord to protect and bless every one of you.
Thank you and prayers,
The Chapin Family

ATV Regional Trail Connector Program Continuing Through 2025
ATV Regional Trail Connector Program Continuing Through 2025
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources announced it will operate an ATV Regional Trail Connector through the 2025 riding season, following the conclusion of the ATV Regional Trail Connector in 2023.
An ATV Regional Pilot Report shares findings regarding the pilot on the department’s website.
Through collaborations with public and private partners, the pilot offered long-distance riding opportunities and contributed to local economies, while maintaining the many uses and values of the state forest system.
A key finding of the report showed that a multi-jurisdictional authority is necessary to ensure proper staffing, budget, and expertise to address the needs of the trail system. Learn more..
Shapiro Administration Announces Grants for ATV and Snowmobile Projects
Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn announced new grant funding totaling $793,800 for ATV-related projects.
Three recipients were awarded grants for projects including trail and trailhead construction and land acquisition for trail development.
“DCNR supports projects that improve upon and expand outdoor recreation opportunities across the Commonwealth, and we are excited to announce funding for this round of ATV projects,” Dunn said. “We look forward to seeing the impact of these projects and encourage worthy projects to apply for the upcoming spring grant round.”
The spring ATV and snowmobile grant applications will be accepted Thursday, February 1 through Friday, March 29.

Penn College hoops teams split, playoff-bound
Pennsylvania College of Technology basketball teams split two United East games to close out the home portion of their regular-season schedules last week, and both are going to the playoffs.
FLASHBACK:
MEN’S BASKETBALL
On Tuesday at Penn State Berks, the Wildcats turned a five-point deficit early in the second half into a seven-point lead. Then they needed a layup with three seconds remaining by Livingston Cross, of Union, New Jersey, to pull out a 92-91 win for a sweep in the two-game season series. Cross and teammate Gavin Barrett, of Roselle, New Jersey, each scored 22 points in the victory, and Landon Reeder, of Montoursville, added 16 points and had a team-high 10 rebounds. Penn College led in points in the paint, 46-28.
Hosting Lancaster Bible College on Saturday, the Wildcats trailed by 15 at the intermission and could get no closer than 10 in the second half of an 89-71 loss. Cross continued his stellar play with a 26-point, 15-rebound effort to record his 12th double-double of the season.
As a result of the merger last summer between the United East and Colonial States Athletic Conference, the top six teams in both the Volt (former UEC) and Skye (former CSAC) divisions qualify for postseason play. The Wildcats will secure the No. 4 seed and host a first-round game with a win in their final two games or a Gallaudet loss.

Causer to Offer Property Tax/Rent Rebate Assistance, Reminds Seniors of Expanded Income Limits, Rebate Amounts
BRADFORD – Applications for the 2023 Property Tax/Rent Rebate program are now open, and Rep. Martin Causer (R-Turtlepoint) is reminding area residents that free assistance is available through his office.
Even more senior citizens and people with disabilities are eligible for rebates through the program this year thanks to a new state law that increased income eligibility limits to $45,000 for both homeowners and renters, excluding 50% of Social Security income. The maximum rebate was also increased from $650 to $1,000.
“At a time when many are struggling to meet the rising cost of inflation, this is a great opportunity for people on fixed incomes to get some help with their rent or property taxes,” Causer said. “My office is happy to help make that happen at no charge.”
In addition to offering assistance at the Bradford, Coudersport and Kane legislative offices, Causer has also scheduled a series of Property Tax/Rent Rebate clinics across the area. The schedule is as follows:
2024 ADULT TROUT STOCKING SCHEDULE NOW AVAILABLE!
HARRISBURG, Pa. (February 1) – Beginning today, anglers looking forward to Pennsylvania’s popular spring trout season have another tool at their fingertips, as the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is pleased to make its 2024 adult trout stocking schedule available using the FishBoatPA mobile app and website (Fishandboat.com).
“Even though the calendar says it’s still winter, spring will be here before we know it,” said Brian Niewinski, Director of the PFBC’s Bureau of Hatcheries. “For many people, fishing on the Opening Day of Trout Season in Pennsylvania and the weeks that follow is a tradition that they look forward to all year long. Now that the anxiously awaited trout stocking schedule has been posted, anglers can start preparing by purchasing their fishing licenses, getting their gear ready, and planning their fishing trips.”
The trout stocking schedule is searchable by county, lists the waterways in alphabetical order, and indicates stocking dates, meeting locations for volunteers, and the species of trout that are planned to be stocked at each location. In 2024, Pennsylvania’s statewide Opening Day of Trout Season will be held on Saturday, April 6. A single, statewide Mentored Youth Trout Day will take place on Saturday, March 30.
To prepare for the start of the season, stocking operations are set to begin the week of February 19. Anglers should note that fishing is not permitted on lakes and streams designated as Stocked Trout Waters from February 19 to 8 a.m. on the opening day of trout season, with the exception of the Mentored Youth Trout Fishing Day, unless waters are included in the Stocked Trout Waters Open to Year-Round Fishing program.

Pennsylvania State Police Sees Another Significant Boost in Cadet Applications
Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) today announced its most recent cadet selection cycle yielded 1,830 applicants eligible for the state trooper exam, another substantive increase in applications nearly six months after Governor Shapiro waived the college credit requirement for applicants. Many of those eligible applicants, 41 percent, previously could not pursue careers as state troopers due to the college credit requirement.
“We’re pleased to see this increase in applications from women and men with the passion and determination to be part of something bigger than themselves, individuals willing to go above and beyond to serve and protect, with character and strong moral fiber not exclusive to those with a college education,” said Colonel Christopher Paris, Commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police. “I wish them success as they pursue a challenging but rewarding career as a state trooper.”
During the three-month cycle from November 1 to January 31, PSP received eligible applications from 752 individuals who listed a high school diploma or equivalent as their highest level of education, while 581 applicants had some college but no degree. Of the remaining applicants, 170 attained an associate degree, 288 earned a bachelor’s degree, and 39 completed a master’s degree.
At the direction of Governor Shapiro, PSP suspended its educational requirement of 60 college credits on August 28, 2023. During the last hiring cycle with the credit requirement in the first half of 2023, PSP received 1,374 eligible applications over six months. The first hiring cycle without the college credit requirement was open just two months, yet PSP received 1,545 eligible applications.
Applicants have until February 7, 2024, to take the state trooper exam, the next stage of the hiring process.
