Pain Management Physician to lead walk on May 2
BRADFORD, PA – Upper Allegheny Health System’s (UAHS), pain management and physical medicine physician, Dr. Joseph Staszel, will be leading the May Walk with a Doc event. The walk will take place on Thursday, May 2 at 5 p.m. This will be a reintroduction to the Bradford community as Dr. Staszel will begin accepting new patients at BRMC starting Tuesday, April 30. His practice will be located at 116 Interstate Parkway, suite 32, Bradford, PA and appointments can be made by calling (716) 701-1707.
The event is hosted by Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) and the Guidance Center (TGC) and will take place at Richard E. McDowell Trail on Campus Drive. The walk is free and open to everyone. Prior to leading the walk, Dr. Staszel will be discussing a health-related educational topic with participants. His discussion topic is “lower back pain and sciatica”. An alternate indoor location has been reserved for the event in the case of inclement winter weather. The location is the University of Pitt at Bradford Fitness Center located at 300 Campus Drive, Bradford, PA 16701. PFBC ENCOURAGES ANGLERS AND BOATERS TO ENJOY PLENTIFUL OPPORTUNITIES DURING SPRING AND SUMMER, AWARDS BOATING FACILITY GRANTS, AND MOVES TO IMPROVE SAFETY AND CUSTOMER EDUCATION RELATED TO BOAT RENTAL BUSINESSES
HARRISBURG, Pa. (April 29) – The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) began its quarterly business meeting by thanking anglers, agency staff, and volunteers for a safe and successful start to the 2024 trout season and promoting the plentiful fishing and boating opportunities that remain throughout the spring and summer months.
“The spring and summer seasons are special times of year in Pennsylvania, where the Opening Day of trout season is only the tip of the iceberg,” said William Gibney, PFBC President and District 7 Commissioner. “We’re grateful to the volunteers who assisted us with stocking trout in hundreds of waters so far and will continue to help us stock over the next several weeks right up until Memorial Day.”
Gibney also encouraged anglers to explore new waters and seek out different types of fishing experiences beyond trout.
God’s Country Chapter of Trout Unlimited will host Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Event
Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, initiated and conducted by members of the Federation of Fly Fishers and Trout Unlimited, serves military personnel who have been wounded, injured, or disabled to aid their physical and emotional recovery by introducing or rebuilding the skills of fly fishing and fly tying and by using and enjoying these skills on fishing outings and as lifelong recreation. While initially focusing on the military personnel in the Washington, DC area, the Project has expanded nationwide and is offering its services and program to active military personnel and veterans in the Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals throughout the country. The Project’s program provides basic fly fishing, fly casting and fly tying classes and clinics for the wounded and injured personnel ranging from beginners to those with prior fly fishing and tying experience who are adapting their skills to their new abilities. All activities and services are provided to the participants at no cost. Fly fishing and tying equipment and materials are provided to the participants, including equipment that accommodates their special needs.
WELLSBORO WOMEN’S AND MEN’S CHORUSES WITH THE WEDNESDAY MORNING MUSICALES AS GUESTS ARE PRESENTING THEIR SPRING CONCERT THIS SATURDAY, MAY 4
At 7 p.m. this Saturday, May 4, the Wellsboro Women’s Chorus and Wellsboro Men’s Chorus are presenting their annual Spring Concert along with special guests, the Wednesday Morning Musicales Chorus, in the United Methodist Church of Wellsboro at 36 Main Street.
The concert theme is “Here Comes the Sun.” The three choruses will sing 21 songs, including Broadway and pop tunes. The concert will end with all three choruses singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone with Climb Ev’ry Mountain.”
The Wednesday Morning Musicales Chorus, directed by Diana Frazier with piano accompaniment by Marian Miller, will open the concert. The 34-member group will perform “Favorites from “The Rat Pack” including “You’re Nobody ’Til Somebody loves You”, “Everybody Loves Somebody”, and “Come Fly with Me,” “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” “Forever Young,” “Sunrise, Sunset” with Dave Driskell on clarinet, and “I Only Have Eyes for You.”
The 26 members of the Wellsboro Men’s Chorus, directed by Christina Simonis with accompanist Pat Davis at the piano will sing “ Gonna Rise Up,” “Once Upon a Time,” “Georgia,” “The Creation,” “My Lord, What a Morning,” “Circle of Life,” with Dave Driskell accompanying on a recorder and “What a Wonderful World.”
The 35 members in the Wellsboro Women’s Chorus, directed by Diana Frazier with piano accompaniment by Judy Smithgall, will sing “Here Comes the Sun,” “When Will I Be Loved,” “My Fair Ladies,” “They Can’t Take That Away From Me,” “Jersey Boys,” “You’ve Got a Friend,” “Don’t Stop,” “Stop! In the Name of Love,” and “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”
A good will offering will be taken at the door.
Each of the three choruses welcomes new members. The Wellsboro Women’s Chorus rehearses Thursday nights at the Deane Center and the Wednesday Morning Musicales on Wednesday mornings at the Gmeiner Art and Cultural Center, both in Wellsboro. Anyone who has a desire to sing and would like to join either of these groups is asked to contact Diana Frazier at 570-439-0923.
The Wellsboro Men’s Chorus invites new members who share their love of music and fellowship to participate in community events in area towns and churches. Potter County Artisan Co-op plans events and classes in May
- A Mother’s Day Basket Class is being taught by master basket weaver, Cathy Snyder on Tuesday, May 7 starting at 4:30pm. Students may choose to make an Irish Knitting Basket or Egg Basket. - Potter County Artisan Co-op is hosting a ‘10 Year Anniversary Celebration’ on Friday, May 10, from 6-8 pm. Celebrate with live music by Jonathan Meade, wine tasting with Little Mountain Winery, food, door prizes and giveaways. RSVP by calling 814-274-8165.
- An Outdoor Photography Class will be held on May 11, starting at 9:00 am until mid-afternoon with Curt Weinhold. This class is for all those who want to improve their outdoor photo skills. Bring cameras, lenses, tripod, and appropriate dress for the day’s weather. Students will meet at the Artisan Co-op and drive about 15-20 miles to the class destination. Class is $55.00. - The monthly Young Artisan Class with Laurie Angood and Danika DeCarlo will be held on Thursday, May 16, from 3-4:30pm. Students will be painting ‘Bear with Trout’ in acrylic on canvas. Appropriate for Grades 2 through 6. Supplies and snack provided. Price of the class is $25.00.
- Spa Night returns on Thursday, May 23 from 5 – 8:00 pm. Cover is $10.00, spa services, including Reflexology, Foot Detox, Massage, and Facials, are an extra fee. Refreshments served. For more information, please call the co-op at 814-274-8165.

Registration Now Open for NPRC’s Summer 2024 Semester
Do your future plans include postsecondary education? Northern PA Regional College (NPRC) brings affordable education to you. Their Summer 2024 semester begins Monday, June 3rd. Eleven courses are being offered, including Introduction to Psychology, Interpersonal Communication, US Government and Politics, and Environmental Biology, to name a few. These courses are part of five associate degrees – Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Education, Liberal Studies, and Social Sciences. Of course, if you are not interested in pursuing an associate degree at this time, NPRC’s team will help you select courses or training that meets whatever goal you’d like to achieve.

Dennis R. “Joe” Ordiway, 76, of Bradford, PA.
Dennis R. “Joe” Ordiway, 76, of Bradford, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024 at his home.
He was born on October 3, 1947 in Kane, a son of the late Roy and Janet Vaughan Ordiway.
He was a 1965 graduate of the Smethport High School.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War; serving from July 1966 until his honorable discharge in February 1970.
He was a life member of the VFW Post 2497, Smethport.
He was employed by Pennzoil, Bradford, for twenty years prior to working at various other jobs in the area.
He is survived by three sisters, Jackie Lindquist of Bradford, Judy (Garry) Moyer of Aiken and Sue (John) Ruffner of Aiken; one brother, Richard (Kelly) Ordiway of Tarpon Springs, FL and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents; he was also preceded in death by one niece, Shelley Moyer and one brother-in-law, Larry Lindquist.
Private services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
Contributions in his memory can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Lois Ann Langberg Hicks, 91, a longtime resident of Coudersport, PA
Lois Ann Langberg Hicks “joyful spirit”
Lois Ann Langberg Hicks, 91, a longtime resident of Coudersport, went to be with the Lord, on her birthday, Friday, April 26, 2024, in Buffalo General Medical Center, Buffalo, NY.
Lois was born on April 26, 1933 in Malverne, Long Island, New York. She was the daughter of Oscar and Bessie Bliss Langberg. On June 30, 1956 in Peterboro, New York, she married Norman Hicks.
Lois earned her undergraduate degree from Potsdam State Teacher’s College in Potsdam, New York, and then her Masters degree from Oswego State Teacher’s College in Oswego, New York. She was employed as an Elementary and Special Education teacher for many years. She officially retired from teaching in 2015 at the age of 82. She had been an elementary teacher for about 55 years.
She taught in many places, including Palmyra, Marion, and Dansville in New York State, St Marys, Pennsylvania, and at many of the elementary schools throughout Potter County near Coudersport, Pennsylvania.
Lois was a member of the Gospel Tabernacle, where she was active in her church. She enjoyed reading, playing her piano, and keeping up with local news. She also loved gardening, flowers, her family & friends, and most of all Jesus.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Norman Hicks.

This morning in coordination with the Smethport Area School District and McKean County Dept of Emergency Services we held our version of “ Prom Promise”.
Students in 10th, 11th, 12th grade attended a brief assembly in the auditorium where professionals all gave a inside look at what each role is responsibly for during a critical incident from Dispatcher all the way to the McKean County District Attorney’s Office, and everyone in between. Then they had a chance to listen to a Smethport Alumni share the story of her sister and the impact of her accident on them even to this day more than 25 years later.
