Horton Township Volunteer Fire Department Streamlining Emergency Response Identification

PRESS RELEASEBrockport, PA, May 3,2024: The Horton Township Volunteer Fire Department (HTVFD) is updating its dispatch and communications designation. While the station responds to emergency scenes as “Elk Company 7,” for the past year, HTVFD has been dispatched by the Jefferson County 9-1-1 Center. The department made the move to improve radio communications and response time, as Jefferson’s system offers clearer and more consistent coverage in much of Horton’s service area in southern Elk County.
Since Jefferson County already has a company 7, HTVFD requested the new designation to avoid 911 radio confusion. It will now operate as Horton Township Volunteer Fire Department, Jefferson Station 11.
The change will not affect operations in Horton Township, and HTVFD will continue to provide mutual aid with other Elk County fire companies.
HTVFD provides fire protection, vehicle rescue, and EMS services for a 57-square mile area that includes 1,300 residents and two major state highways.
