Bradford Little Theatre (BLT) will be the recipient of the 2024 Jackie Award
BCPAC
We are thrilled to announce that Bradford Little Theatre (BLT) will be the recipient of the 2024 Jackie Award, the Marilyn Horne Award for Excellence in the Creative and Performing Arts.
BCPAC has presented this award since 1990, recognizing an individual or organization who has demonstrated excellence and support of the creative and performing arts in the region. The award was originally given as The Bravo Award, but then retired in 2000 and was changed to the “Jackie” award, given in recognition of Bradford native and world-renowned opera singer, Marilyn Horne “Jackie”. Ms. Horne was awarded the “Jackie” when she came to town in the spring of 2000.
BLT has provided theater opportunities for over 25 years, not just for the Bradford community, but for people around the Twin Tiers, including straight plays, theater camps, special events and full-blown musicals. BLT has also created an opportunity for individuals with disabilities to showcase their talents on stage by creating a variety show called “From the Heart”.
Each summer, BLT presents a three-week summer theater camp for students ages 6 to 15, to learn and create a show from start to finish, including prop and set building, costume design, learning lines and music, and then performing for audiences on its final weekend.
BLT is a not-for-profit run by local volunteers, who work hard to support local community theaters around the area through the lending of props, costumes, technical assistance, promoting, participating, and attending each other’s performances to help promote local community theaters.
Established in 1997, Bradford Little Theatre promotes, encourages, and produces community-based theater in the greater Bradford area. By making theater available and accessible to the public, BLT provides opportunities for community participation, appreciation, and education, thus enriching the community and increasing interest in the arts, especially theater.
As BLT embarks on its 27th season, the organization continues to be fueled by dedicated volunteers who work to produce a diverse range of plays, musicals and performing arts events throughout the year in the Bradford community. With a commitment to inclusivity and involvement from individuals of all ages and skill levels, the theater remains a hub form creativity and cultural enrichment in the region.
It is an honor to recognize BLT with the Jackie Award, not only for their passion and dedication to the arts, but for helping to create a sense of belonging for individuals who have an interest in theater and providing a space for people to truly come alive and thrive on the stage.
BLT will be recognized and presented with the award at the upcoming performance of the Peter Mayer Group at the Bromeley Family Theatre on the University of Pitt-Bradford campus on May 10th at 7:00pm, with a light reception in the lobby following. We’d love for you to join us as we celebrate BLT!
