Bradford Area Public Library Hosts Inaugural Celebration of Library Heroes
Save the date for the Bradford Area Public Library’s inaugural Celebration of Library Heroes fundraiser, to take place on Thursday, November 2 at the Bradford Club. The festivities get underway at 5:30 PM with a social hour with acoustic music provided by Jim Ronan, followed by a buffet-style dinner at 6:30 PM and the presentation of awards rounding out the evening. Tickets are $40 each or two for $70 and are available for purchase at the library.
To celebrate all that the library offers, they will be honoring two local individuals at this event. Jeannie Satterwhite, instrumental in spearheading BAPL’s True Colors in American History collection, has long been a library supporter. “She has been an excellent fund-raiser, but more importantly, she elevated our cause in the hearts and minds of our community,” stated Rebecca Feightner, BAPL’s Executive Director. Also being recognized is long-time local English teacher, Marie Troskosky.
“Marie has spent countless hours over the last ten years volunteering and using her teaching experience to support our literacy and writing programs,” reports Katie Wedge, a former teen club member and current library staff person. “Marie leads our Teen and Middle Ground Book clubs and continues to find new ways to breathe life into these programs. Bringing our youth together with others in the library community; building new partnerships with Pitt-Bradford and our adult Open Book Club, Marie gives our teens leadership opportunities that truly inspire,” stated Feightner.
The library is currently seeking patron and corporate sponsors for their Celebration of Library Heroes event. “All tax-deductible donations help to support our library’s mission to inspire, engage, and educate our community through relevant programming and growing our collection,” states Marketing and Adult Programming Coordinator, Janelle Nolan. Incentives for sponsors include advertising on the library’s social media accounts, website, and appearing in the event’s program.
Monies raised during this event will have a direct impact on the library’s budget. “85% of our funding is derived from local sources, with only 15% of our annual operating expenses coming from the state,” reports Feightner. “All contributions are needed and valued,” she states.
Ticket sales will be capped at 115 tickets, so individuals are urged to get their tickets early. For more information or to become a sponsor of this event, please visit the library’s website at bradfordlibrary.org or call Executive Director, Rebecca Feightner at 814-362-6527. Nolan reports, “Our library can grow thanks to the generosity of our community. Your financial gifts enable us to provide a safe, and accessible community-centered library that is free to the public.”
