The Port Allegany Rotary Club welcomed Journey Wilmoth and Madison Errick to their weekly meeting held Thursday at Moose Lodge #460. Journey is the daughter of Tammy Vascooter and Carl Wilmoth. She has a brother, Jett Ruding. She is a member of the Port United Soccer and Bocce Ball teams, she is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Varsity Club and Drama Club. Journey is an avid reader and participates in the Reading Competitions. She enjoys fishing and pickleball. She also works at Zitomedia in Coudersport. Journey is planning to go to college to study psychology. She was introduced to the club by Charlie Cox. Madison is the daughter of Mark Errick and Cathy Errick. She has a sister, Emily, and a brother, Edward. Mady plays volleyball, basketball and softball. She serves as captain for both volleyball and softball. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Varsity Club. Mady plans to go to college to study Family and Child Development. She was introduced to the club by Anna Fair.

Last week in review: Although the women’s soccer team’s regular-season unbeaten string ended, two of its players were among four Wildcats who were awarded weekly honors by the United East Conference.
Also, head baseball coach Chris Howard was announced as one of 14 members of the Class of 2025 who will be inducted into the West Branch Valley Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in November. In 18 seasons at the helm of the Wildcats, Howard’s teams have posted a 377-283 won-loss record, winning three conference championships, finishing second four times and finishing third twice.

Last week’s hometown highlights: Hosting defending United East champ and this year’s favorite to repeat Penn State Harrisburg on Tuesday, the Wildcats saw their regular-season unbeaten streak end at 36 in a defensive nail-biter that saw goalie Morgan Solano, of Shavertown, make 10 saves. Penn College’s last regular-season loss came on Sept. 30, 2023, at Penn State Harrisburg, also by a 1-0 score. The streak included 28 wins and eight draws.

David Smith, 69, of Warren, PA., died peacefully Thursday morning, October 2, 2025, at Warren General Hospital, Warren, PA., after an extended illness. David was born March 6, 1956, in Corry, PA. He was the son of Gerald R. and Maxine J. Mathews Smith. David was a solitary man with few close friends. He worked at Betts Industries as a welder for 40 years and was very fond of Dick Betts. Dave never had children of his own. He had a special bond with Michelle’s son, Tom (TC). He would take him fishing and hunting squirrels, where Tom shot his first gun.

Paula J. Cherry, 69, of Emporium, passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday (October 11, 2025) afternoon, following a lengthy illness, with her loving family by her side.
She was born June 23, 1956 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Homer F. and Alora Wilson Grimm. On November 24, 1984 she married John “Dave” Cherry, who survives. She is also survived by her stepmother, Twila Lyon Grimm of Emporium.

The Deane Center for the Performing Arts is hosting a fall concert featuring Country Jamboree this Friday, Oct. 17 and another with Always ABBA Next Friday, Oct. 24, both at 7:30 p.m. in the Coolidge Theatre at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro.
Theater doors will open at 7 p.m. for each of these concerts. If available, tickets will be sold in the Deane Center lobby beginning at 7 p.m. the evening of each concert.
Members of the Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild in Wellsboro are presenting a free Golden Afternoons program about the local quilt guild and displaying quilts and quilted items made by members at 1 p.m. this Tuesday, Oct. 14.

Valerie Alisa Beck, 60, of Emporium, peacefully passed away on Friday evening, October 10, 2025, at Penn Highlands DuBois.
Born in DuBois on June 10, 1965, Val was the second daughter of the late James and Lucinda “Cindy” (McDowell) Beck.
A 1983 graduate of Cameron County High School, Val later moved to Johnstown, PA, where she earned her diploma as a CNA. In 1996, she returned to Cameron County and built a meaningful career caring for others—first at Guy and Mary Felt Manor, and later in private homes within the community. She gave care with heart, grit, and humor up until her own health no longer permitted it.

Eldred—David G. “Hippie” Martz, 64, of McCrea Brook Rd., passed away Monday (October 6th, 2025) at the Olean General Hospital.
Born October 30th, 1960 in Port Allegany, he was a son of William and Nancy (Bell) Martz. He was a life long resident of the area.
David went to Otto-Eldred Schools and was employed at Stead Lumber in Portville and then he was later employed as a mechanic and a bus driver for Stucks Garage in Rixford for many years prior to retirement.

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) announced on October 7th that the Jockey Hollow Access, which provides fishing and boating access to the Youghiogheny River Lake in Henry Clay Township, Fayette County, will be temporarily closed from October 8-24, 2025.
During this time, improvements will be made to the parking area.

Phyllis M. (Colins) Davis, age 91, of Morris, PA, died on Thursday, October 2, 2025. She was born on February 10, 1934 in Morris, PA a daughter of the late James and Mildred (Priset) Collins and was the wife of the late John W. Davis.
Phyllis was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Wellsboro, PA and had worked for Wundies, Liberty, PA for many years. She enjoyed playing euchre, gardening, swimming, going on cruises and especially spending time with family and friends.

John B. Campbell, 55, of St. Marys, formerly of Sinnamahoning, passed away peacefully at Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, on Friday morning (October 10, 2025), with his mother by his side.
He was born August 12, 1970, in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of Jack Campbell and Kathleen “Kate” Kinsey of Pitcairn, PA.
John graduated from St. Marys Area High School and worked for many years at St. Marys Pizza Hut, where he was well-loved by co-workers and customers alike. He had a kind heart, a quick wit, and an infectious sense of humor that brightened the lives of those around him. John enjoyed being with people, sharing laughs, and making friends wherever he went.
In addition to his father and mother he is survived by cousins Dawn English of Florida, Seth Koehler of California, and Billy Harrison of Maryland, as well as special friends Matt and Jeff, who held a meaningful place in his life.
The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth St., Emporium, PA, on Wednesday (October 22, 2025), from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. There will be no formal services.

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that a safety improvement project is set to resume on Interstate 180 and Route 147 in Delaware and Turbot townships, Northumberland County.
Starting on Monday, October 13, 2025, the contractor, Kriger Construction, Inc., will begin construction of new cable guiderail in the median on Route 147 near Montandon in West Chillisquaque Township and will continue along Interstate 180 to the Lycoming County Line. Work will be performed in the median and lane restrictions could occur in either direction. Motorists can expect the left (passing) lane to be restricted where work is being performed. Work will be performed Mondays through Fridays between the hours of 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM, with occasional weekend work, weather permitting.
Kriger Construction, Inc. is the prime contractor for this $2.4 million safety improvement project. Work includes installing 16 miles of high-tension median cable barrier in several locations along Interstate 180 and Route 147 in Northumberland County. Work on this project is anticipated to be completed in November 2025.

BRADFORD, Pa. — Nearly 1,000 students and teachers from across the region filled the Bromeley Family Theater on Monday for “Steve Trash Science Live,” part of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s 2025–26 Kaleidoscope Matinee Series.
The near-sold-out performances featured nationally known eco-entertainer Steve Trash, host of the hit PBS series “Steve Trash Science,” who blended comedy, magic, music, and environmental lessons to bring science concepts to life. Through humor and hands-on demonstrations, he showed how the scientific method asks questions, makes predictions, and explores how the world works.


Olean, NY — Olean General Hospital (OGH), a Kaleida Health facility, is pleased to welcome Samer Al-Humadi, MD, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in comprehensive upper extremity care ¾ arm, shoulder, elbow, forearm, wrist and hand ¾ to its medical staff.
A native of Olean, Dr. Al-Humadi is returning to his hometown to care for the community that shaped him. Dr. Samer Al-Humadi follows in the footsteps of his father and brother, who have both been physicians practicing in the Olean community and at OGH.

Michael A. Caggiano Jr., 91, of Ridgway, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at his residence.
He was born on May 24, 1934, in Ridgway, the son of the late Michael and Susie Nappe Caggiano.
On September 24,1954, in Brooklyn, NY, he married the late Carmela Galante, who preceded him in death on August 20, 2013.

On October 10, 2025, at approximately 11:31 a.m., the City of Bradford Police Department responded to a call at 56 East Main Street to investigate reports of trespassing and squatting by homeless individuals at a vacant house. Upon arrival, officers from the City of Bradford Police Department, accompanied by Code Enforcement officials, discovered Adam Weaver, on the premises.
Further investigation revealed that Weaver had an active arrest warrant issued by Magistrate Luther’s Office for failure to appear on a previous trespassing charge, resulting in a jail sentence. Weaver was taken into custody without incident. During the arrest, officers found Weaver to be in possession of Methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance, as well as related paraphernalia. Weaver was subsequently transported to McKean County Jail to answer to the outstanding warrant.
Additional charges will be filed against Weaver for the illegal possession of drugs. The City of Bradford Police Department would like to remind the public that all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
