Elizabeth A. Christian, 85, a resident of Pinecrest Manor and formerly of 630 Chestnut Avenue, DuBois, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at Pinecrest Manor, after a lengthy illness.  

She was born December 15, 1936, in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Herman and Julia Selle Pontzer.  She grew up in Kersey and was a graduate of Kersey High School, Class of 1954.   Elizabeth was educated at the St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in Erie and worked as a registered nurse in clinical setting for many years before serving as a Pennsylvania Public Health Nurse based in Ridgway, DuBois, and Clearfield.  She worked as a liaison to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention during the Legionalla (Legionnaire’s Disease) outbreak in 1976, leading a cohort of public health officials from Western PA in state-wide testing and mitigation efforts.  Elizabeth was one of the first public health officials in Western PA to join the fight against acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).  Elizabeth was most proud of her outreach work in our outlying rural communities. 

Elizabeth is survived by her daughter:  Kathryn “Kathy” Suto (John) of Los Angeles, CA; her son:  Christopher Casey (Michelle) of DuBois; a step-daughter: Kim Fidler (Ralph) of Schuylkill Haven; two grandchildren: Peter and Sarah Casey; two step-grandsons:  Zachary and Chad Fidler; three sisters:  Margaret Pontzer of Hagerstown, MD; Kathryn Tanouye (Edwin) of Rockville, MD; and Mary (Greg, dec.) McClure of Bonita Springs, FL; a brother:  Joseph Pontzer (Carol) of Athens, GA; two sisters-in-law: Kathleen (Robert) Pontzer of Milford, MA and Victoria (Herman, dec.) Ehrhardt of Lancaster, PA; and by many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents and her husband, Wayne Christian, Elizabeth was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman Pontzer, Jr. and Robert (Kathleen) Pontzer.  

Elizabeth was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish in DuBois.  She loved to travel, attend Penn State football games, and to spend time in her kitchen, creating delights and sharing her amazing culinary gifts. 

Elizabeth’s children would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the team at Pinecrest Manor Reflections Wing for their kindness and familial care of their mother.  Angels, all; those selfless caregivers will forever be in their hearts.

There will be no visitation.  Burial will be in the St. Boniface Cemetery in Kersey.

Design Your Own Gansey Class

Have you ever wanted to knit a classic Fisherman’s sweater, but were intimidated by the amount of cable involved? The answer is to design and knit your own Gansey sweater!

Kathleen England, of Glenfiddich Wool, will teach you how to design and create your own Gansey sweater in this class. If you can knit and purl, you can make a Gansey! Kathleen England is a sheep farmer, business owner, and world-class knitter. She has demonstrated her knitting (and spinning) skills at numerous schools, universities, and community events. She has taught knitting classes for all different levels of knitters and has competed at the PA Farm Show and numerous knitting competitions. Kathleen’s knitting designs have been featured several times in the Love of Knitting magazine, including two bridal gowns!

The first class is scheduled for Wednesday, October 26^th from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the Potter County Education Council’s Coudersport office. The class will also meet once in November and once in December. To ensure a quality finished product, your yarn must be purchased from the instructor at the first class. Two different, reasonably priced yarns will be available for purchase.

Paul L. Yonker

Paul L. Yonker, 98, of W. Mill Street, Daguscahonda, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022 at DuBois Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.

He was born on August 29, 1924 in Daguscahonda, a son of the late James and Elizabeth Wright Yonker.

He was married to the late Jeannette Neubert Yonker, who preceded him in death in 2014.

Paul was a lifelong resident of the area and member of St. Marys Church.  He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was a two-time recipient of the Purple Heart award.  He retired from Stackpole Carbon Company after many years of service.  He was a member of the VFW in Ridgway and the St. Marys Sportsmens Club.  An hunter and fisherman, Paul loved the outdoors and enjoyed any chance to be in the woods.

He is survived by his step-son; Joseph Neubert and his wife Sue of Ridgway, by two grandchildren; Stephanie Merkel and Brittanei Reed, and by three great-grandchildren; Bobby, Shelby, and Danny.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; Edward and Harold Yonker, and by six sisters; Ruth Gorton, Alice Staff, Margaret Scott, Hazel Rollick, Mabel Williamson, and Pearl Pearson.  He was the last member of his immediate family.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Paul L. Yonker will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at 10:00 AM at the St. Marys Church, 315 Church Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Thomas More Sikora, OSB, as celebrant.

Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.

Burial will follow in St. Leo’s Cemetery in Ridgway.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at the St. Marys Church from 9:30 AM until the time of the Mass.

Pennsylvania Lumber Museum

Our Spooky Lantern Tours event is happening this Saturday, 10/22, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Come in costume to trick-or-treat your way through the site while listening to several spooky stories. Decorate your own pumpkin and make a pine cone bird feeder in the museum program room. Hope you can join us!

Angelica Fire and Rescue

10/19/22

At 09:05 this morning we were dispatched along with MTS Ambulance to the Hyland Landfill on Herdman Road in the Town of Angelica for a reported rubbish fire. Upon our arrival it was determined the pile of material burning(estimated to be over 500 cubic yards) was tire cords a by-product of tire recycling.

Tankers and manpower from Belmont, Belfast, Friendship, Scio, and Short Tract were requested as well as an engine from Belmont to draft from a pond on-site and an engine from Cuba to stand by in Angelica. Crews fought the fire for over 2 hrs putting upwards of 60,000 gallons of water on it.

Linda K. WESCHE

Linda K. WESCHE, 77, of Wellsville, NY, died Sunday, October 16, 2022 in her home. 

Born August 18, 1945, in Olean, she was the daughter of Harry Pilon and Josephine Prozeller.  A 1964 graduate of West High School in Rochester, she was employed by Jones Memorial Hospital as a billing clerk and by Wellsville Manor as a CNA.  Linda was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Altar and Rosary Society, and served on the ACASA board. 

Surviving are:  four daughters, Loretta Meyer of Hammondsport, Yvonne (Pete) Erway of Hammondsport, Tina Day of Wellsville, and Tara (Kevin) Fortner of Littleton, NH;  ten grandchildren;  seven great-grandchildren;  seven siblings, Kimberly (Gregory) Lindner of Rochester, Wilma (Jonathan) Lawrence of Brooktondale, David (Christine) Hall of Horseheads, Gina (Thomas) Clay of Ohio, Gay Ellen (John) Pernau of West Virginia, Leon Pilon of Eldred, PA, Kent Pilon of Ohio;  a sister-in-law Marilyn Hall of Casa Grande, AZ;  nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Martin Hall;  twin sister, Sandra Pilon;  her stepmother, Margaret Trask Pilon;  and her stepfather, Ralph Hall.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM, Monday, October 24, 2022 in Immaculate Conception Church, 6 Maple Avenue, Wellsville.  Rev. James Hartwell will be the Celebrant.

DCNR is seeking feedback about the 2022 Regional ATV Connector Pilot summer riding season with an online survey. Responses are due by Friday, November 18, 2022.

The 2022 pilot area provided ATV riding opportunities on designated state forest trails and roads, designated local (township, borough) roads, and specific state routes in Potter and Tioga counties and parts of Clinton and Lycoming counties in the Pennsylvania Wilds.

The riding area also provided opportunities for accessing ATV trails, local businesses, and points of interest.

The results of the survey will be used to improve the administration and guide potential expansion of the ATV Regional Connector Pilot for the 2023 riding season.

Ellen Joan Miller

Ellen Joan Miller, 94, of 61 Olean Road, Derrick City, formerly of 576 Bolivar Drive, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at Bradford Manor, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on February 28, 1928, in Franklin, she was a daughter of the late George C. and Margaret E. (Neil) Kuhns.

She was a 1945 Graduate of Franklin High School and attended the Harris Business School in Franklin.

On April 16, 1949, in Franklin, she married Robert O. “Chub” Miller who preceded her in death on June 3, 2000.

Joan was a member of Hill Memorial United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, Eastern Star, the Tuesday Quilters Club, and the Ecumenical Home Auxiliary.

Joan was an avid cross stitcher, she loved to read, knit, garden, paint ceramics, crosswords, puzzling, and was always ready for a card game. She was a proud Steelers and Penguins fan.

Surviving is one daughter, Candace L. (Terry) Kornacki, of Derrick City, one son, Steven C. Miller, of Crosby, two grandsons, Todd (Shannon) Yonker and Jeff (LeeAnne) Yonker, six great grandchildren, Jacob (Jess) Yonker, Mackenzie (Jake Giardini) Yonker, Joseph Yonker, Justin Yonker, Levi Yonker, and Ella Yonker, and one great-great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be private and held for the family at the Hill Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Jay Tennies, officiating. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Richard “Sam” Feeny II

Richard “Sam” Feeny II, passed away Sunday morning October 16, 2022, in his home in the loving arms of his wife Yvonne, daughter Savanna, her boyfriend Skyler, and his mother Pat after battling cancer for 3 years.

He was born on January 30, 1967, in Norfolk, VA, to Patricia Rae Feeny and the late Richard Sam Feeny. Sam lived and worked in Warren most of his life. He retired from Atlantic Broadband after 23 years of service, as the Cable Guy. He also worked for Ray’s Disposal and Nystrom Oil.  Sam enlisted in the US Navy after high school.

Sam was a kid at heart with bigger toys.  He enjoyed playing with the children and teaching them things like how to use tools, how to drive and how to make fart sounds. Many knew him as Sam or Sammy. It was said he never met a stranger. He was role model for many and strived to make people smile. 

He enjoyed riding motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATV’s, camping and backyard campfires. He was happiest surrounded by friends and family. 

Sam was a member of the North Warren VFD for more than 10 years.

Sam is survived by his loving wife of 6 years Yvonne Feeny; his mother Patricia Feeny; stepmother Linda Feeny; stepdaughter Savanna Carlson; two brothers Vince Feeny and wife Marlene; and Aaron Feeny and wife Lisa; and two nephews Hunter and Kohl Feeny.

Family and friends may attend a viewing that will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Saturday October 22, 2022, in the Russell United Methodist Church, 17 N Main St. Russell. Funeral services will be held in the church on Saturday at 11:00 am with the Pastor Lou Anderson-Nordin, officiating and concluding with military honors, by Clarendon/ Sheffield VFW and US Navy personnel.

Ronald E. Rittberg

Ronald E. Rittberg, 88, of Cyclone, passed away Wednesday (October 19, 2022) at Olean General Hospital, Olean.

Elmer F. DeLucia, 99, of Scranton, formerly of Bradford, PA passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at the Gino Merli Veteran’s Center, Scranton.

He was born on August 5, 1923 in Bradford, a son of the late Dominc and Jennie Frasca DeLucia.

He was a 1943 graduate of the Bradford High School and he attended St. Bonaventure University, Allegany, NY.

On April 12, 1947 in the St. Bernard Catholic Church, he married Anna M. Pellicani who preceded him in death on February 6, 2015.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; where he was involved with five major battles: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and the Battle of the Bulge.  During his service he received five bronze stars, two silver stars, the President’s citation for D-day and two purple hearts; one in October 1944 in France and the other in March 1945 in Germany.  He received the Bradford Rotary Club “Paul Harris” Award and he was one of thirty former servicemen selected by the French government for recognition in the celebration of the 65^th Anniversary of the D-day landing; where he was awarded the Chevalier, the French Medal of Honor, and was recognized by five heads of state including former President Obama.

He was a member of the Lt. John C. Roche Post 212 VFW, the La Stella Lodge, the St. Bernard Catholic Church; where he was an usher for over fifteen years, a player in the Industrial Softball League as well as the City Softball League.  He also bowled on the Speer team in the Byllye Lanes bowling league and was an annual volunteer for the Italian Festival.

He was the General Foreman for twenty-six years at the former Airco Speer until their closure in 1976.  He then went to work for W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery for five years as the Safety Director from 1976 until 1981.  He was the Assistant Manager at the Glendorn Estate from 1981 through 1986 and finally he worked at the Bradford Wal-Mart from the time it opened until his retirement.

His avocation was as a bartender at the Emery Hotel, the Penn Hills Club, the Bradford Club and the Valley Hunt Club, among others.  He was also a favored bartender for the cocktail parties at over 50 local homes where he was thought of as a “people person”.

He is survived by one son, Nick (Patricia) DeLucia of Preston Park; three daughters, Joanne DeLucia of Placitas, NM, Lisa (Lee Johnson) DeLucia of Milford, NH and Christina DeLucia of Hamden, CT; two grandsons, Peter (Lori) DeLucia of Endwell, NY and Paul (Karen Anne Medlin) Kruse of Carboro, NC; one granddaughter, Maria (Peter) Evans of Knox, NY; two great grandsons, Nicholas DeLucia and Landen DeLucia both of Endwell, NY; two great granddaughters, Myla and Cora Evans both of Knox, NY and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Augie and Anthony DeLucia.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM in the St. Bernard Catholic Church with a Mass of Christian Burial to immediately follow at 10:00 AM in the church with the Rev. James Gutting, senior associate pastor as celebrant.

Committal services and full military honors performed by the U.S. Army and the American Legion Post 108 will be in St. Bernard Cemetery at the conclusion of the funeral.

Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Mary C, (Pansero) Campbell, 92, of Galeton, PA, died on Monday, October 17, 2022 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA. 

Born January 16, 1930 in Wellsville, NY, she was a daughter of the late Santo and Angela (Calabro) Pansero. 

She was a 1948 Graduate of Gaines High School. On August 17, 1968, in Galeton, she married Clinton Campbell, who  preceded her in death in 2015.

Mary was employed at the Gaines Tackle Shop and then later at Galeton Production, where she was a Monitor.

She was a woman of strong faith and was a member and communicant at St. Bibiana Catholic Church in Galeton.

In Mary’s younger years, she was an avid photographer and videographer and then later in her life she enjoyed reading and crocheting. She also loved spending time with her family and friends. Her home was a gathering spot for friends, family and neighbors who enjoyed stopping in for a chat or for a meal.

Surviving are two sons, Jim (Delores) Campbell, Galeton, and Tom (Jill) Campbell, Wellsboro, PA; one daughter, Betty Ann (Bill) Lechler, Galeton; two sisters, Francy DeStevens, Gaines and Ginny Pansero, Horeseheads, NY; six grandchildren, Jeff, Rick, Kim, Jaime, Kamryn, and Hayes; ten great grandchildren, Marika, Eve, Lexi, Braelyn, Billy, Mitchel, Tegan, Jobe, Vinnie, and Quinn; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Button; a son-in-law, Larry Button; and a sister Toni Haner.

Friends may call at St. Bibiana Catholic Church, Galeton, PA on Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 10:00-11:00am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am with the Rev. Fr. Brian Vossler as Celebrant.  Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery, Galeton.
