At 450 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from 14 miles west of Wellsboro to 27 miles south of
Wellsville. Movement was east-southeast at 25 mph.
HAZARD…Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail.
SOURCE…Radar indicated.
IMPACT…Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.
Locations impacted include…
Morris, Coudersport, Galeton, Leetonia, Denton Hill State Park,
Cherry Springs State Park, Lyman Run State Park, Leonard Harrison
State Park, Austin, Sweden Valley, and Ski Denton Ski Area.

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio

Shapiro Administration Urges Responsible Designated Driving Ahead of Labor Day Weekend
The Pennsylvania Departments of Transportation (PennDOT) and Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP), the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), and safety partners gathered today at Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center to urge motorists to celebrate responsibly ahead of the Labor Day holiday.
“Crashes involving impaired drivers are completely preventable,” said PennDOT Executive Deputy Secretary Larry Shifflet. “If your celebration this weekend includes alcohol or drugs, plan to get home safely. Choose a designated driver, choose to use a ride-share service or public transportation, but never choose to drive impaired.”
Over the Labor Day holiday weekend last year (Friday, September 1, 2023, through Monday, September 4, 2023) there were 1,189 crashes statewide, resulting in 20 fatalities and 892 injuries. 133 of those crashes were alcohol related, resulting in eight fatalities and 110 injuries; and 41 of those crashes were drug-related, resulting in five fatalities and 48 injuries.

Ethel V. Harris: Loving Mother and Grandmother
Ethel V. Harris, 98, formerly of County Rd. 40, Bolivar, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at Cuba Memorial Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit.
Born on June 26, 1926, in Galeton, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of Warren and Mildred Wilson Gilliland. On November 30, 1944, in the Town of Independence, she married Lytle Harris who predeceased her in 1995.
She was a loving wife and homemaker and enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing cards.

My lady died in my arms at home August 25, 2024. Joy was 78 years old and was the daughter of the late Martha and Orville (Ted) Good. Joy has one older sister, Linda, as well as a younger sister, Julie, and brother Ted. Joy and I were married on February 13, 1965. It still does not seem long enough. I was the lucky one when she said ‘yes’ 60 years ago. You can be sure I got the better end of the deal. We were blessed with three children-Andrew, Adam, and Joy. She loved her babies up to the day she died and meant everything to her. She was proud of who they were and their accomplishments.

On August 29, at 9:57 am Mt. Jewett Fire and Ambulance was dispatched to East Main St. for a one vehicle crash. The vehicle struck some parked vehicles and a fire hydrant the patient is self extricated with possibly no injuries

McKean County is seeking qualified and highly motivated applicants for a full-time Information Technology System Technician located in Smethport, Pennsylvania.
Under the direction of the Information Technology Director, the primary objective of this role is to establish and maintain a secure information network system and infrastructure for the local county government. This includes providing technical support to departmental staff, addressing technology needs, and ensuring the smooth operation of all network-related functions.
Qualifications:
- Education: Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications are a plus.
Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Offering frontline support of technology end-users, encompassing application assistance, help desk services, and system access/security administration via Active Directory services.
- Supervising all telecommunication aspects, including LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), VPN (Virtual Private Network) and county telephone systems.
- Assisting in statewide implementation of state-mandated systems for all county government departments.
- Oversee Cybersecurity at all levels, including the implementation and management of cybersecurity protocols, firewalls, MFS, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and regular security audits to protect against unauthorized access, data breaches, and other security threats.
- Acting as the central coordinator of personal computers, serving as the primary point of vendor contact and providing internal expertise for all telecommunications. As part of the telecommunications expertise this would include network cameras (used for surveillance and monitoring), courtroom audio-video equipment (utilized for legal proceedings recording and broadcasting), virtualized infrastructure technologies (such as virtual machines and hypervisors for efficient resource management), and video conferencing solutions (for remote meetings and collaboration).
- Conducting support activities, including hardware and software installations, upgrades and troubleshooting.
- Install personal computers and peripherals while delivering user support services.
- Use of a personal vehicle to travel between county buildings in Smethport, PA, and to District Justice offices in Bradford, PA, and Kane, PA, as required for job-related duties. Mileage reimbursement will be provided in accordance with county policy.

On August 29, at 3:26 am Kane Fire and Ambulance were dispatched to 3757 Rt. 6 for a motor vehicle accident.
Two Vehicles On Fire In Bradford
On August 28, at 11:04 pm Bradford City Fire Dept. was dispatched to the area of 152 Seaward Ave for two vehicles on fire. There was a possible small explosion the fire has spread and caused a small grass fire
Fr. Eric Vogt Memorial Fund awards its first grant distribution
St. Marys, PA: A golf tournament to benefit the Fr. Eric Vogt Memorial Fund, a donor advised fund administered by the Elk County Community Foundation, was recently held at the Bavarian Hills. Following the tournament, the first distribution from the fund was appropriately awarded to the Elk County Catholic High School baseball team, which Fr. Eric coached and developed over the years.
The purpose of the fund, which was established by Fr. Eric’s family, is to keep his name alive by supporting youth programs that foster education, mentorship, and personal development.
Harry E. Stanley, 93, of Smethport, PA.
Harry E. Stanley “beloved father and grandfather, devoted Christian”
Harry E. Stanley, 93, of Smethport, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, in Lakeview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Smethport.
Born on Monday, November 24, 1930 in Shinglehouse, he was a son of William G. and Grace M. Goodrich Stanley. On November 16, 1996, he married Jacqueline B. Olson Leet, who passed away on September 21, 2021.
Harry was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School and was US Marine Corps veteran having served during the Korean War.
Harry was employed at the former Pierce Glass Company in Port Allegany, retiring after many years of service.
He was a member of the East Smethport United Christian Church. In his younger years, Harry enjoyed hunting and fishing. His greatest love was spending time with his family.
Helen D. Tingley, 99, of Coudersport, PA
Helen D. Tingley, 99, of Coudersport, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at UPMC Cole, Coudersport, with her family around her.
She was born August 13, 1925 at the family farm in Nopal, Texas, to Bruno and Christina Foegelle Dybowski. On September 9, 1945, in San Antonio, Texas, she married Clair M. Tingley, who passed away January 31, 2003.
Helen was the sixth of eight children. She attended country schools near her home and was a standout athlete at school events, winning awards for her speed. When her brothers left to serve in the Civilian Conservation Corps and US Navy during World War II, she learned to drive and became the family driver, transporting her parents when they needed to travel the 12 miles into town. Her younger sister fondly remembered that she “had a lead foot”. As a young woman, she moved to Yorktown, Texas and then to San Antonio, where she was working as a waitress when she met Clair Tingley, who was serving as an MP with the US Army Air Corps. After their marriage, they moved north to be near Mr. Tingley’s family in Coudersport, and also lived briefly in Island Falls, Maine, before returning to Coudersport.
