Daryl L. Stratton, 78, a life-long resident of Wellsboro, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly Sunday morning, November 2, 2025, at his residence. He was the dedicated and loving only child of Ralph and Margaret Stratton. After his father died when Daryl was 18, he took care of his mother until she passed away at age 94.

Portville- Stanley Miller “Loving Father, Grandfather & Great Grandfather”
Stanley Miller of Coon Hollow Road, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025 at the home of his daughter, Janet (Larry) Shrauger.
Stanley was born March 28, 1929, in Black Springs, Arkansas and was the son of Steward and Mary L. Alexander Miller. On August 3, 1952, at the Olean First Baptist Church he married Betty Jane Hardwood who predeceased him on January 12, 2021.
Smethport – Steven L. Faes, 74, of Crosby, passed away Monday (November 3, 2025) at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born March 17, 1951 in Port Allegany, the son of Lawrence “Cino” and Elizabeth “Betty” (Ross) Faes. On September 6, 1974, in St. Elizabeth Church, Smethport, PA, he married Bonnie M. Dille, who survives.
Steve was a 1969 graduate of Smethport Area High School.
He was a shift supervisor employed by International Waxes, Inc., of Farmers Valley, retiring in 2007.
He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. He was a member of the NRA, Eldred Conservation Club and Keating Sportsman’s Club.

Twila Lyon Grimm 97, of Emporium, PA, passed away Monday afternoon, November 3, 2025, at Guy and Mary Felt Manor in Emporium. Twila Coletta Lyon was born February 23, 1928, on Moore Hill, Emporium, the daughter of the late R. Paul and Susie Skillman Lyon.
On December 31, 1994, in Emporium, Twila married Homer Grimm and they shared 11 happy years together.
Twila was a graduate of Emporium High School and went on to attend Lycoming College, and Lock Haven College, where she majored in biology and minored in Spanish. She earned her master’s degree in education from Penn State University. She devoted over 35 years to teaching in the Cameron County School System, including three memorable years in a two-room schoolhouse in Sterling Run. Most of her teaching years were spent with fourth-grade students whom she delighted each spring with her well-known end-of-school horseback riding celebration.
Montoursville, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Lycoming Regional Police Department, the PA DUI Association, Geisinger Jersey Shore, Citizens Hose Company, the Lycoming County Coroner, and other safety partners held a media event today to highlight the dangers of impaired driving through the holiday season.
From Wednesday, November 19 through the end of the year, state and local law enforcement will participate in “Operation Safe Holiday”, the holiday season impaired driving campaign. High visibility enforcement efforts such as roving DUI patrols will be conducted to reduce the number of crashes and fatalities involving an impaired driver. As the night before Thanksgiving is one of the biggest drinking days of the year, there is typically a significant increase in impaired driving crashes surrounding the holiday.
Cuba– Larry K. Runyan “Loving Husband, Father & Grandfather”
Larry K. Runyan, of 60 Spring Street, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Monday, November 3, 2025, after a brief illness.
Born on October 23, 1942, in Cuba, NY, he was the son of the late John A. and Winnifred E. (Lutzie) Runyan. On August 25, 1962, in Cuba, he married the love of his life, Karen E. Carpenter, who predeceased him on August 17, 2005. They shared 43 wonderful years together.
Montoursville, PA – Motorist are advised of a shoulder restriction next week on the Route 61 southbound / Route 147 northbound exit ramp from the Veteran’s Memorial Bridge into the City of Sunbury, Northumberland County, due to a tree removal.
On Monday, November 10, 2025, the contractor, Dincher & Dincher Tree Surgeons, will be removing trees and performing trimming along the exit ramp from the Veteran’s Memorial Bridge to Route 61 southbound / Route 147 northbound into the City of Sunbury. Motorists can expect the right shoulder to be restricted in this area. Work is expected to take place between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, weather permitting.
Motorists should be alert, slow down, expect travel delays, watch for lane changes, and drive with caution.

(BRADFORD, Pennsylvania: November 4, 2025): District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that a Bradford Area School District bus driver has been charged by City of Bradford Police.
Sean WILLIAMS, of Duke Center, was charged after an investigation by police following a tip that WILLAMS was photographing or video-recording up the skirts of one or more minor females on the school bus for which WILLIAMS was a bus driver prior to the report.
Chief Michael Ward and School Resource Officer Anthony Lama are investigating the case and stress that this is a very active investigation. They urge the public to contact them if they have information on the case or are a victim.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are expected. Anyone with information should call 911 to reach an officer.
WILLIAMS is currently charged with Sexual Abuse of Children (Child Pornography), Attempted Sexual Abuse of Children (Child Pornography), Invasion of Privacy, Corruption of Minors, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Use of a Communication Device, and Unlawful Contact with a Minor. WILLIAMS was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge David Engman and bail was set at $500,000. WILLIAMS was remanded to the McKean County Jail with central court scheduled for November 13th. What a spooktacular night in downtown Coudersport!
Our annual Halloween Parade on November 1st was a huge success — and we want to thank everyone who came out to join the fun!
The parade started on Third Street, made its way down Main Street, and wrapped up at the Gunzburger Building, where kids were treated to candy and smiles all around.
From creative costumes to festive group costumes, the talent and Halloween spirit on display were incredible! Congratulations to all our prize winners — and a big thank-you to everyone who participated, volunteered, or helped make the day such a success.
Special thanks to our local businesses, Coudersport Rotary Club, and the Coudersport Borough Police Department for keeping things safe and fun.
We’re already looking forward to next year’s parade — until then, enjoy the photos!
Jeffrey Daniel “Woody” Woodruff, 62, of Rixford, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the Olean General Hospital.
Born on May 7, 1963, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Gerald R. and Carolyn J. (Skiver) Woodruff. Jeffrey was a 1981 graduate from Bradford High School.
After high school, he went on to cook for many years, ten of which were at Togi’s Restaurant. Jeffrey then began his 32 years career at W.R. Case Cutlery and Sons in 1994, where he was employed as a shipping associate.
Jeff was a lifelong resident of Bradford, and was a member of the Bradford Marche Club, and was an avid fisherman.
Bernard R. “Bernie” Smith, 76, of Wellsboro, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2025, at Broad Acres Health and Rehab, Wellsboro. He was born on October 9, 1949, in Blossburg, son of the late Clarence and Anna (Hughes) Smith. He married the former Betty Putman on July 7, 1968, and celebrated over 57 years together.
Bernie graduated from Wellsboro High Scholl, Class of 1968 and worked at Ingersol-Rand, later Dresser-Rand. After he retired, he owned and operated Bernie’s Auto Repair, he loved working on cars and had his own race car. Bernie liked eating out at different restaurants and meeting new people, night fishing, watching NASCAR races, westerns, and the Three Stooges.
Montoursville, PA – Motorists traveling Route 15 in East Buffalo Township, Union County are advised that lane restrictions will begin next week in both directions for a tree project.
Starting on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, the contractor, Dincher & Dincher Tree Surgeons will begin removing and trimming trees on Route 15 between Campus Lane and Mcrae Lane, just south of Bucknell University. Smethport – Bruce A. Houben, 76, of Eldred, devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away surrounded by his family, Sunday (November 2, 2025) at UPMC-Cole, Coudersport.
He was born August 21, 1949 in Olean, NY, the son of Clifford and Mary (Lloynes) Houben. On July 4, 1986, in Eldred, PA, he married Patricia E. Riley, who survives.
Mr. Houben was a 1967 graduate of Otto-Eldred High School and served in the US Navy during Vietnam.
Mr. Houben was a metal inspector, employed by Dresser-Rand of Olean, NY, before retirement.
Last season: 15-11 overall, 12-4 UE regular season, 12-5 all UE.

Steven L. Faes, 74, of Crosby, passed away Tuesday (November 4, 2025) at his home, surrounded by his family.

District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that her office has received reports from residents who have received telephone calls that purport to be from the McKean County Courthouse but are not. The caller is not actually calling from the courthouse, but the number on the caller ID is the courthouse number. The caller pretends to be calling from a legitimate state or federal government agency.
A County Detective is investigating the recent reports. However, the District Attorney warns residents to be aware that scammers can “spoof” a telephone number or website so that it appears to be from a trusted source causing a fake sense of security in the recipient. “Spoofing” is a well-known type of scam where a scammer disguises their identity to appear as a trusted source to trick a victim into disclosing personal information such as social security numbers or passwords to accounts.
Once a scammer gains access to a victim’s information or passwords, they can apply for loans and credit cards or deplete their financial accounts. The only way to avoid becoming a victim is to be extremely skeptical about any call, text, or email where we are asked for identifying information, banking information, passwords for accounts, or anything else that we would not disclose publicly. Do not give out personal information over the phone or in an email.

Joyce K. HUTFLUS, 84, of Ulysses, PA, formerly of Holland, PA, died Sunday, November 2, 2025 in her home. Born March 24, 1941, Philadelphia, she was the daughter of John and Katherine Metzinger Wilhelm.
She was married to Josef A. Hutflus, who predeceased her in 2006. A graduate of St. Hubert Catholic High School for Girls in Philadelphia, she worked as a medical lab technician for many years. Joyce was a member of St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church in Holland.
