Elk County- Alex Gasbarre, CEO and Mark Saline, President of Gasbarre Thermal Processing Systems presented a $7,000 donation to the St. Marys Area United Way. St. Marys is home to Gasbarre’s furnace manufacturing facility with offices in Lovonia, MI and Cranston, RI that provide sales, service, and engineering support to regional customers. Gasbarre, headquartered in DuBois, PA and with manufacturing operations in DuBois, St. Marys, and Olanta PA, was founded in 1973. Throughout the 50-year history Gasbarre has added industrial furnaces, precision tooling and automation integration to the original powder compaction press technologies.Â

Hazel Onalee Plank, of Westfield, Pa., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023. She passed away peacefully in her sleep of natural causes. She knew the sorrows of life, and so many joys, packing her 96 years full of faith, family, and friends.
She married Harold F. Plank on Sept. 13, 1946, in a double wedding with her brother, Durwood Houghtaling, who married Harold’s sister Margery.

Wellsville Police arrested Langford B. Whitford, age 54 of Cuba, charging him with DWI, Moved from lane unsafely and Speed not reasonable and prudent. The charges stem from a motor vehicle accident that took place on State Rte. 19 near Coats Street. Whitford was processed, issued and appearance ticket and released to a third party. Whitford is due to appear in Wellsville Village Court on January 17th at 4:30 pm.

Christopher Lee Floyd Mosher, age 28, of Elkland, PA passed away at home on Monday, January 2, 2023.
Born December 2, 1994 in Wellsboro, PA, he was the son of Jodylynn Mosher (Jeff Wood) and Timmy L. Zuke.
Chris enjoyed playing video games, listening to music and playing guitar. He loved to ride skateboard and would later guide his daughter Izzy and his young cousins to ride too.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his daughter Isabella Grace Mosher (Lacey Learn); brothers, Thomas (Randi) Mosher of Tioga, Garrett (Taylor) Mosher of Daggett and Harley Zuke; sister, Kameron Wood; grandparents Tom and Sally Mosher and aunt Melissa “Moesef” Mosher of Elkland, uncle Shannon (Cheri) Mosher of Osceola; Great uncle Chet Mosher of Elkland; his “brother from another mother”, Kevin Caton; his dog RoxiDawg and his cat Bobby DeNiro and several nieces, a nephew and several cousins.
Chris was preceded in death by his brother, Jacob Zuke.
Private family services will be held at their convenience.

Russell C. “Russ” Miller, 67, of Shinglehouse, PA
“beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother”
Russell C. “Russ” Miller, 67, of Shinglehouse, PA passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, after a short illness.
Born on Saturday, August 20, 1955, in Jamestown, N.Y., he was a son of Joseph and Betty Peterson Miller. On January 15, 1983 in Shinglehouse, he married Gail M. Meyers, who survives.
Russ previously owned and operated Miller Automotive in Millport and was also a machinist for many years. He was also employed as the head sawyer for the former Donovan and Schoonover Lumber Company in Shinglehouse.
Russ enjoyed working on his classic cars and collecting and restoring pinball machines. He was a huge Buffalo Bills fan and an avid Chase Elliott fan. Russ’s greatest love was his family, especially his eight grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 40 years; four children, Phoebe M. (Donn) Tompkins of Ridgway, Jason L. Miller of Greenville, Lee A. (Sharon) Miller of Pittsburgh, and Betsy V. (Jeremiah) Asper of Lock Haven; eight grandchildren, Noah, Shelby, and Bailey Tompkins, Aydan Miller, and Bryson, and Mason Asper, and Charlotte and Conner Miller; two brothers, Randy A. Miller and Rodney L. Miller, both of Shinglehouse; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
In addition to his parents, Russ was predeceased by a brother, Lonnie Joe Miller.
In keeping with Russ’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral services.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials in Russ’s name may be made to the Hillman Cancer Center, 1001 East Second Street, Coudersport, PA 16915.

Arnold “Arnie” Brunner, 77, of Route 6, Smethport, PA
Arnold “Arnie” Brunner, 77, of Route 6, Smethport, PA passed away Sunday (Jan. 1, 2023) at Olean General Hospital.
Born March 13, 1945, in Olean, N.Y., he was a son of William and Evelyn Walker Brunner. On Aug. 28, 1971, in the Duke Center United Methodist Church, he married Susan Curtin, who survives.
Mr. Brunner was a 1963 graduate of the Belvidere (Ill.) High School. After being born in Duke Center, his family moved to Illinois, but Arnie decided to move back to the local area as soon as he graduated high school.
He then attended some of the inaugural classes at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford while painting houses to finance his degree. He went on to receive a B.S. in forestry from Penn State University in 1967.
After working as a forester for the PA State Game Commission and the Buehler Lumber Company of Ridgeway, Arnie went on to a successful career as an independent forester. In 1991, he opened A-1 Rent-All Sales in Olean, which he operated alongside his wife for 31 years. They also started Stoney Acres Alpaca Farm together in Smethport, where they raised alpacas for 18 years.
Arnie enjoyed everything involving the outdoors and spent as much time as possible outside. He loved hunting, swimming, gathering firewood, and of course, working. He was known for his strong-willed nature but also for being very generous to those close to him.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 51 years are their son, Christopher, along with his partner Ashli; and three granddaughters, Katelyn, Leah and Maddie; as well as several extended family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Teddy; as well his infant sister, Marilyn.
As per Arnie’s request there will be no services held at this time. Burial will be in Duke Center Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made in Arnie’s honor to an outdoor conservation charity of the donor’s choice. In lieu of flowers, take a walk in the woods, help a neighbor or enjoy the little moments with family and friends.

Core Boring Work Scheduled on Route 255 North of Treasure Lake Gate
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists that traffic delays should be expected mid-to-late January on Route 255, north of the Treasure Lake Gate in Clearfield County. Â
Starting Wednesday, January 18 and running through Friday, January 27, crews will be taking core borings on Route 255 near Hungry Hollow Road. The core boring work is being done in relation to a future bridge replacement project on Route 255. All work is weather and schedule dependent.
In order to perform the work, an alternating traffic pattern will be enforced by flaggers in the roadway. Drivers should anticipate short travel delays as this work takes place during daylight hours.
Motorists are encouraged to “Know Before They Go” by checking conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

William Ice from Austin is in his third year of the welding program. He has become a reliable leader in the shop, completing all of his assignments, working on special projects and programming cuts on the CNC plasma table. He is routinely ahead of where he needs to be and is always looking for additional work or projects to get on. William has a great work ethic and will be a great addition to wherever he begins his career .Â
Acting 101: Learn the Fundamentals of Acting
Calling all thespians! So you’ve never acted before but would love to? Come learn the essential skills needed to be on the stage. Even if you are not a novice, this is an excellent opportunity to refresh those skills and maybe learn something new to add to your repertoire, such as improvisation or different techniques. The local theatrical group, Potter-McKean Players, has plans to offer productions in the upcoming months. This course will teach you what you need to be ready for those auditions.
This 4-part course will be taught by local director Paul Herzig and actor Jared Empson, of Eliot Ness Fest fame. The classes will take place on Tuesdays, January 10 – January 31, 2023 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Education Council’s Coudersport office. The cost of the course is $25 per person. As of 04:36 Station 44 was dispatched to Portage Township for a tree down blocking the roadway. Chief 44 (J.Rooney) and Patrol 44-24 with Chief 44-60 (T.Orlowski) responded. Crews arrived to find large tree blocking the roadway, PennDOT on scene. Chief 44 (J.Rooney) had command. Crew assisted PennDOT, providing traffic control and removing a large amount of debris from the roadway utilizing leaf blowers. Units were in quarters at 05:37.

Austin Dispatched For Trees & Wires Down Blocking Road

As of 14:16 Station 44 has been dispatched to Costello Road, Portage Township for a reported Tree Down on lines blocking the roadway. Patrol 44-24 with Chief 44-20 (B.Brooks), Rescue 44-8, Chief 44-60 (T.Orlowski), Chief 44-70 (S.Orlowski) & Captain 44 (A.Bothell) have responded.
Chief 44-60 (T.Orlowski) has established Austin Command reporting tree down on lines, roadway completely blocked, broken lines & pole. Notifying of a Tri County provider.
This has caused a power outage for multiple residents.
As of 15:10 scene has been turned over to Penndot and Tri County. All 44 units have returned.
Please use caution traveling in this area as Penndot is operating equipment and Tri County will be replacing pole and lines.

Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the Eagles Club for Joan Marie Miles
Joan Marie Miles, 84, formerly of Park Street Bradford, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at UPMC Hamot.
Born October 13, 1938, in Salamanca, NY, she was a daughter of the late William and Verneda (Fee) Nye. She attended Salamanca Schools.
Joan worked as a caregiver for Cattaraugus County and area families.
She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary as well as a Senior Regent, and the Moose Lodge Auxiliary and Moose Heart Haven.
Surviving are three daughters, Jeannie Byerley, of Endevor, Nancy (John) Palumbo, of Olean, NY and Verneda “Sunny” Kayes, of Olean, NY, four sons, Henry Louis (Wendy) Kayes, Jr., of Bloomfield, Daniel L. (Bonnie) Kayes, of Buffalo, NY, Tyler Kayes, of Endevor, and Damon Kayes, of Polleck LA, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, two sisters, Carol Hammerbeck, of Sheffield, and Sandra Hale, of Bradford, one brother, Walter (Butch) Hale, of VA, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, William Nye, and Clifford “Sonny” Nye.
Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the Eagles Club, in Bradford, at 1:30 PM.

Charles E. “Chuck” Patterson, 89, of St. Marys, formally of Ridgway, PA
Charles E. “Chuck” Patterson, 89, of St. Marys, formally of Ridgway, PA died on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Elk Haven Nursing after a lengthy illness.
He was born on November 16, 1933, a son of the late Robert and Agnes Hill Patterson.
On May 29, 1958, in Ridgway, he married Barbara Gardner, who survives.
Chuck was a resident of the area for 65 years and a member of First United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S Army. Chuck was a member of the Ridgway Elk, Ridgway Legion, Rolfe Beagle Club, and Island Run Sportsman. He had a passion for teaching his grandchildren to hunt and fish. He had a love for his beagles and was a avid Steelers fan.
In addition to his wife of nearly 65 years, he is survived by 6 children; Joyce Fledderman and her husband Peter of St. Marys, Linda Delullo and her husband Richard of St. Marys, Charles Patterson Jr. and his wife Mary of Grove City, Todd Patterson and his wife Laura of Lynchburg, VA, Bonnie Hoffman and her husband Don of Ridgway, and Brent Patterson and his wife Pam of East Aurora, NY, 12 grandchildren; Steven Fledderman, Paul Fledderman, Kristen Uhl, Lindsey Geci, Cecelia Midberry, Charles Patterson III, Clay Patterson, Kate Holloway, Mikah Patterson, Jenna Hoffman, Hailey Hoffman, and Kaden Hoffman, and 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 3 siblings; Kenneth Patterson and his wife Jerry, Francis Patterson and his wife Patricia, and Jane Delhunty, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 siblings; Robert and Harold Patterson, Doris Bowser, and Margaret Shirley.
Funeral Services for Charles E. Patterson will be celebrated on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, 140 North St. Marys Street, St. Marys, PA 15857, with Pastor Rev. Sang Hak Lee officiating.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at First United Methodist Church from 10:00 AM until the time of services.
Military honors will be accorded by St. Marys Burial Detail.
Burial will follow at Oakmont Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, Trinity United Methodist Church, or American Legion Riders Chapter 103.
