Joseph P. Vecellio, 83, of Clarence Street, Bradford, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Bradford Manor.
Born October 5, 1941, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Joseph D. and Florence A. (Johnson) Vecellio.
Joe was a 1959 graduate of St. Bernard School, and a 1963 graduate of Mansfield State University earning a bachelor’s degree in Education.
COVER CROP DEMO DAY
Join us for Cover Crop Demo Day on October 16, 2025, from 11:30 – 2:00 PM at the McKean County 911 Center, 17175 Route 6 in Smethport.
McKean County Conservation District and King’s AgriSeeds have partnered together to bring participants a live planting demonstration of a cover crop utilizing the Conservation District’s No-Till Drill.

When Trouble Comes
No one is immune to tragedy. Troubles of all kinds befall us all. Troubles, death, hurt, illness, or pain do not respect persons. They will come when we least expect them and catch us off guard. The writer of Ecclesiastes says that there is “Nothing new under the sun.” (Ecc 1:9). But even knowing this, we are often unprepared for what is about to come through the door, ready to take our breath away and knock us to the floor.

Robert L. Evan, III, 52, of East Main Street, Bradford, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the Bradford Manor surrounded by his loving family.
Born on June 2, 1973, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Robert L. Evan II and Sharon George of Yuma Arizona.
He was a 1991 graduate from Bradford Area High School and went on to the Pittsburgh Culinary Institute to pursue his love of cooking.
Rob worked for his grandparents at Evan Rollerdrome in his early years. He moved to Utah and worked as a bartender and server for 16 years. He returned to Bradford nine years ago and owned and operated Evan’s Texas Hots and then Evan’s Texas Grille.

Janet L. Vinelli, 90, of Bradford, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at the Pavilion @ BRMC.
Born February 1, 1935, in Bradford, she was a daughter of the late Carmen and Dorothy (Sloppy) Rizzo. She was a 1953 graduate from Bradford High School.
On December 1, 1962, in Bradford, she married Michael A. Vinelli Sr., who preceded her in death on June 25, 1995.
Janet was employed at Reserve Loan Company where she met her future husband Mike. After raising her family she worked as a Pharmacist Technician at Bradford Hospital for 10 years.
Mary Jane BRUNO, 83, of Wellsboro, PA
Mary Jane BRUNO, 83, of Wellsboro, PA, died Saturday, September 27, 2025 in Broad Acres Health and Rehabilitation Center, Wellsboro. Born August 10, 1942, in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of Edward Kenneth and Shirley Jane Lattimer Yaeger.
A graduate of Cowanesque Valley High School in Westfield, she earned a degree in criminal justice and was employed as a therapist with a police department in Florida. Mary Jane enjoyed playing bingo, euchre, and dancing.
Surviving are: two children, Jenny Painter of Wellsboro and Stephen Bruno of Lancaster, NY; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and friend, Gloria (Gary) Wolfe of Middlebury Center.
She was predeceased by a son, Richard P. Bruno; a granddaughter, Madelyn Bruno; and four sisters, Cheryl Stewart, Marilyn Dibble, Carol Fuller, and Joyce Quackenbush.

Ronald L. SOULE, Sr., 81, of Mills, PA
Ronald L. SOULE, Sr., 81, of Mills, PA, passed away Monday, September 29, 2025 in UPMC Cole, Coudersport. Born March 17, 1944, in Corning, NY, he was the son of Basil L. and Minnie Aretta Michel Soule.
He served honorably with the U.S. Army from 1962 – 1965. He was employed as a supervisor by Pure Carbon in Coudersport. Ron and his wife owned and operated Sharon’s Family Restaurant in Westfield and he retired from a machine shop in Covington. Ron and Sharon played and sang in country bands for over 30 years.
Surviving besides his loving wife of 48 years, Sharon, are: eight children, Robin (Marty) Davis of Tioga, Ronald “Chip” (Christy) Soule of Genesee, Carrie (Michael) Sewell of Sabinsville, Robert (Yvonne) Briggs of Port Allegany, Bradley Soule of Genesee, Frederick (Amy) Briggs of Kansas, Anthony “Tony” (Nicole) Soule of Mills, and Amy (Benji) Putman of Knoxville; 19 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Gary Soule of Galeton; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.
A gathering to celebrate Ron’s life will be held Saturday, October 11, 2025 at the Harrison Township Community Building beginning at 3:00 PM. Military Rites will be accorded by member of the Potter County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.

Mary G. Blanchard, 86, of Aliquippa, formerly of Shinglehouse, passed away peacefully in her home to meet Jesus, with her loving family by her side, on Monday, September 29, 2025, after a short battle with aggressive gastric cancer.
Born on Sunday, February 26, 1939 in Bradford, she was a daughter of Philip and Alta L. Kelly Wood. On April 23, 1955 in Millport, she married Richard D. “Dick” Blanchard, who passed away on December 3, 1996.

Position Overview

PITT-BRADFORD DRAWS MASCOT NAME FROM AVIATION HISTORY
BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford has revealed the name of its costumed panther mascot – Piper!
Beyond a happy alliteration, Piper salutes the campus’s ties to aviation history. The current campus stands on what was once the Harri Emery Airport. On a corner of the airport property where Blaisdell Hall stands today, the Taylor Aircraft Co., owned by Bradford oilman Willim Piper, manufactured the iconic light plane, “The Cub,” during the Depression.
A fire destroyed the factory in 1937, and Piper moved his company to Lock Haven, renaming it Piper Aircraft Corp. The Cubs developed on the land where Pitt-Bradford would stand became important aircraft in World War II, serving as reconnaissance and observation planes, transport vehicle and training airplane for pilots.
In 2006, Pitt-Bradford dedicated a monument to the little plane’s place in aviation history at Blaisdell Hall.
PITT-BRADFORD ADMISSIONS EVENTS PLANNED FOR FALL AND WINTER
The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will hold three Saturday open houses this fall and winter that will offer the best opportunity for students and their families to meet faculty and staff, tour campus and talk with current students all in one afternoon.
Open houses begin at noon and will be Oct. 18, Nov. 1 and Feb. 21, 2026. The program ends around 3:30 p.m.
“The best way to get the feel of a campus and see what it would be like to be a student here is to visit,” said Alex Nazemetz, director of admissions. “And these are great opportunities for prospective students and their families to talk with faculty and current students and get their questions answered about things ranging from meal plans to how dual-enrollment credits transfer.”
Saturday visits, which are briefer than open houses, include a small group tour, brunch and a chance to meet with an admissions counselor. They will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 25, Nov. 15, Dec. 6, Jan. 31, April 4 and April 18.
Weekday visits are also available at 10 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays when the university is open and include lunch. Registration is requested for all admissions events. To register for any admissions events or take a virtual tour, visit upb.pitt.edu/visit-campus.

Born on March 7, 1941, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Lawrence A. and Luella A. (Willis) Schillinger.
Bill was a 1959 graduate of Bradford Area High School.
On July 16, 1960, in Bradford, he married Emma L. (Means) Schillinger who survives.
