Over the past week, three Pennsylvania College of Technology spring sports teams got a taste at the top, two (men’s golf and women’s softball) in NCAA Division III national and regional competitions, respectively, and the third (archery) at the outdoor national championships as the 2023-24 athletic seasons came to a close.

GOLF

As the United East Champion, Penn College entered the national championship tournament field of 43 teams and 221 players with hopes of bettering the previous year’s 37^th-place finish.

Although failing to make the cut to 18 teams after Tuesday’s second round, the Wildcats finished 29^th with Peyton Mussina of Montoursville recording the best back-to-back rounds of his collegiate career 69-68—137 and tied for second, Gavin Baer of Bainbridge shooting 79-74—153 tied for 125^th, Will Orwig of Mifflintown shooting 76-82—158 and tying for 169^th, Trevor Keaton of Lansdale shooting 82-80—162 and tying for 191^st, and Gunner Redmond of Lock Haven shooting 81-87—168 and tying for 205^th.

As a result of his start, Mussina became the first Wildcat to make the 36-hole cut and continue into the final two rounds on the sport’s biggest stage, where he closed with rounds of 75 and 74 for a 286 and tied for 17^th in the country.

Richard E. Belcher, 81, of Sheffield, PA., died Saturday morning, May 18, 2024, at Warren General Hospital, Warren, PA., after an extended illness.

​HARRISBURG, PA (May 17) – The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is proud to join with the National Safe Boating Council and other boating safety advocates across the country to celebrate National Safe Boating Week from May 18-24, 2024!

“All across Pennsylvania, excitement is building for the unofficial start to the summer boating season, which happens this upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend,” said Paul Littman, Director of the PFBC Bureau of Boating.  “Whether you plan to go paddling, waterskiing, fishing, or just relaxing on a pontoon boat, National Safe Boating Week is a reminder that every boating adventure should begin with a few safety steps to keep you out of trouble so you can focus on having fun.”

Boaters are encouraged to follow a checklist of basic safety guidelines before and during each boating adventure, including:

• Always wear a life jacket
• Never boat while impaired by alcohol or drugs
• Have a float plan to let someone know when and where you will be boating
• Check the weather forecast for storms and high water conditions
• Take a boating safety course
• Have proper registrations or launch permits for your boat

As a reminder, the legal limit for operating any watercraft in Pennsylvania is .08% blood alcohol concentration, and penalties for boating under the influence are similar to those for driving a motor vehicle while impaired.  PFBC Waterways Conservation Officers will be on patrol throughout the boating season looking for impaired boaters.

MAIN & RIVER STREET FLAGS

Previous experience in manufacturing methods/processes

Education:

4-year bachelor’s degree preferred

Specific Education/ Experience:

Specific Skills and/or Experience with Software, Equipment, etc.:

MS Office, Autocad, Solidworks, Fanuc Robots, RSLogix, AB Panelbuilder, CTC HMI, Compumotor. Experience with equipment such as ultrasonic and vibration welding, automated vision, and electrical testing is desired.

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the following schedule of maintenance activities in McKean County the week of May 20. PennDOT performs year-round maintenance in its mission to provide a safe, efficient transportation system, and the scope of work in McKean County for the coming week is as follows:

Bridge Maintenance & Cleaning

• Various routes throughout the county. Monday, May 20, through Friday, May 24. This work takes place off the roadway and has minimal, if any, traffic impact.

Pennsylvania has some of the oldest bridges in the country, with an age of more than 50 years on average. Preventive maintenance is vital in extending the life of the structures. As such, PennDOT maintenance crews perform some bridge deck patching and structural repairs.

Cold in Place Recycling

• Route 1009 (Bell Run Road) between the intersections of Route 44 and the McKean/Potter County line in Ceres Township. Monday, May 20, through Friday, May 24. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
